Google Unpatriotic!!!

On just about every holiday I have noticed that Google alters its presentation screen doodles to coincide with that particular holiday. Case in point is this spiffy St. Patrick’s Day doodle:

However, I seem to remember that last year, on Memorial Day, Google failed to alter its presentation screen in any way whatsoever. So, I just checked Google again, and wouldn’t you know it, once again they have failed to give even the slightest nod towards Memorial Day.

A search of the web has led me to Google’s graphic artist, Dennis Hwang. I urge all readers out there to call, or send a letter of dissatisfaction to Google and Dennis Hwang for this gross oversight on one of the most hallowed of holidays in America. After all, if they can doodle a St. Patrick’s Day tribute, the least they can do is pay homage to those brave men and women who have died for our country!!!

BTW, noticed that google also honors the irreverent:

For those not familiar with Catholic holidays, the German “Frohenleichnam” is the Feast of Corpus Christi, or a celebration of Holy Communion. That’s a far cry from “cadaver day”…

  2. Bernie,

Thanks for the links. I had fun checking them out and did some digging of my own on Google’s website. Can anyone figure out why the heck they would celebrate Water Day and not Memorial Day or even Veteran’s Day???

Get a grip. Google has a 4th of July logo up today and has had for a number of years. How many companies do even that? Yahoo doesn’t. Microsoft doesn’t.

Most of Google’s traffic comes from outside the United States anyway.

  4. Tyrone,

    Whatever…

First of all, I never said anything about the 4th of July.

Secondly, you are wrong about Yahoo. They DO have fireworks on their main search page today! Perhaps you should have checked for water before diving into the pool…

But, be that as it may, Google has set precedence for Google Doodles on holidays and special anniversaries.

If Google can celebrate a socialist commie holiday like Earth Day,

don’t you think they can at least celebrate a National American Holiday like Memorial Day?

And, whether or not other countries represent the majority of Google’s traffic is a moot point. as it is an altogether specious line of reasoning. I predicate this upon Google’s own propensity for celebrating the majority of America’s national holidays including the 4th of July, as you yourself have so felicitously pointed out.

Google is an American company that owes its very existence to the men and women who died fighting for America. The least they can do is give our service men and women a nod on Memorial Day.

As for Microsoft and other companies, I don’t care. I am talking about Google Doodles and Memorial Day. Quit trying to throw in red herrings.

    Cheers

    Ähem, @ Bernie

Do you even notice, that the linked Google logo was NOT!!!! (NOT!!!!!!!) created by Dennis Hwang or anyone else related to Google?
This is a fun logo made by people like me, who enjoy playing with pixels. So, in other words: it’s mine AND as a german speaker I’m fully aware of the translation joke.

    Sunny greetings :-)
