Official Cites Resemblance to Warnings and Intelligence Before 9/11

A secret U.S. law enforcement report, prepared for the Department of Homeland Security, warns that al Qaeda is planning a terror “spectacular” this summer, according to a senior official with access to the document.
“This is reminiscent of the warnings and intelligence we were getting in the summer of 2001,” the official told ABCNews.com.
U.S. officials have kept the information secret, and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said today on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” that the United States did not have “have any specific credible evidence that there’s an attack focused on the United States at this point.”
As ABCNews.com reported, U.S. law enforcement officials received intelligence reports two weeks ago warning of terror attacks in Glasgow and Prague, the Czech Republic, against “airport infrastructure and aircraft.”
The warnings apparently never reached officials in Scotland, who said this weekend they had received “no advance intelligence” that Glasgow might be a target.
Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff declined to comment specifically on on the report today, but said “everything that we get is shared virtually instantaneously with our counterparts in Britain and vice versa.”
Unlike the United States, officials in Germany have publicly warned that the country could face a major attack this summer, also comparing the situation to the pre-9/11 summer of 2001.

Silly me, I thought we had been expecting (and trying to avert) this kind of thing since 9/11.
This explains a lot to me. No wonder the media don’t support the GWOT. They aren’t getting the “secret files” that say people (note I didn’t say ROP members) are trying to kill us. Therefore, they think that there are no problems. But now that someone has leaked something, then -Whoa Nellie! - there is a problem.

Yea, there is a very big problem. It is called unsecured southern border, and Islam. Put the two together, and it is only a matter of time before America has a terrorist attack.
Chertoff is a big part of the problem. He should be fired! Who does he really work for? The Mexicans?

I do not believe this warning for a second. I know they want to conduct spectacular attacks but I don’t think al Qaeda can. They are losing on all fronts and can’t even keep up a steady stream of idiots dumb enough to commit suicide attacks. They have stopped fighting Americans and started attacking other Muslims in a failed attempt to intimidate them and still appear powerful.
I consider most Muslims as at least facilitators of terror if not participants but I have issues with this warning. If they blew up a mailbox in a remote area of West Texas the press would claim it as both spectacular and proof of President Bush’s failed policies and also blame our government’s unfair support to Israel. No attacks folks, at least no spectacular ones here at home. I hate to go against all the government “experts” you know the type-the same ones who hire graduates from Islamic study programs designed by Saudis and then further the madness by paying them for advice. Idiots.

Ronin, I hope you are correct.
Remember the Islamicberg type training camps across the U.S.? Do you think a few special forces types from Iran could get across the southern border as Mexicans, and teach small arm tactics to muslims who just love allah, and Mohammed, and hate America?
This is my worry. If the FBI is worth anything, they better be thinking about it too.

I don’t think there are enough Muslims in the US that we have to worry about trained warriors, they simply do not have the numbers to actively support an insurgency. A few homegrown wannabees could and have caused trouble but not on a 9/11 scale. Any trained jihadi would have to be imported and could not count on much support from US muslims. They know they have it good and the extra scrutiny would cut into their profit margins. Without a strong support base, I think we are fine. There is way to much money leaving the US supporting terror in other areas for them to risk making our radar. We are safe here at home; DHS is smoking crack (again). If Americans are to be singled out it will be oconus, it is cheaper, easier and the jihadi can operate with friendly (muslim) support.
Last year when the clowns here in Tampa took a stroll on the school bus I was worried about muslims attacking children. When I asked my neighbors what would happen if they had small children blown up and they all told me they knew exactly what they would do. It mostly included one way trips to temple terrace (lots of muslims live there). Lucky for all, such an attack did not happen. I could see a young father losing his only child going on a rampage and the much feared backlash may happen one day. We can only hope they never try their luck and they realize we are not Brits, French or any other easily defeated bunch of cowards. Granted most of my neighbors may have just been talking smack but I also saw determination and a uniquely American desire to remain free or die trying. If islam is to survive in the US it will have to change. We will never just surrender, walk away or back down. The liberals make a bunch of noise but we are the warriors they are just noise.

I feel there will be a few who TRY to keep us in fear with acts of terror. Unfortunately some will succeed. But, I do not think the terrorists are retaining the infrastructure to pull off a massive attack. I will continue to keep my eyes open for more of the smaller, solo acts.
One of the best things Al-Qaeda did to destroy their efforts was to turn on the Iraqi people. Al-Q lost what could have been an invaluable asset in their disgusting plans.
