US soldiers burnt Koran: report

When I saw that report I knew it was Bull but I like cutting through enemy propaganda so let’s roll. The American’s have been in Afghanistan long enough to know better than to commit an act that would quickly send their efforts backward.

Enemy propagandists know that rumor and allegations are powerful weapons. Rural Afghans live a hard life; they are a proud people but have very little in the way of wealth. Evil warlords and extremists hiding among them as clerics control anything of real value. Their pride and honor (as they see it) are fiercely protected. Threats to Islam are always useful to send Muslims into a rage, old story different chapter.

In truth, Muslims desecrate many more Koran’s than anyone else. They burn and destroy each other’s homes, mosques and meeting places with a gleam in their eyes that would make Mohammed proud. If there are Muslims present so is the Koran, each time they attack each other they also attack Mohammed’s book.

Like the staged picture from Lebanon, which served the same purposed of enraging Muslims. This new “allegation” will create problems for our troops. More than a simple distraction this is a set back. Some sort of payment will wash this over after a brief period of Islamic rage runs its course.

You can not buy an Afghan but you can rent one.

THE US military said it would investigate claims that its soldiers had burnt a copy of the Koran in Afghanistan, as angry locals demanded action and threatened retaliation.

Allegations that troops tore up and burnt the Muslim holy book during a raid in the eastern province of Kunar yesterday led several hundred villagers to demonstrate the same day, blocking a main road for hours.

Locals repeated the charges at a heated meeting today in the provincial capital Asadabad of representatives of the US military, Afghan officials and more than a dozen men from the area near the raid site in Narang district.

“You have desecrated our religion,” resident Azim Khan told the US delegation.
- Notice no proof was presented, a trivial matter that more than likely was missed by the US delegation

“If the perpetrators do not apologize to Afghans and to all the Muslims of the world, and if they are not brought to justice and punished for what they have done, we will stand against you, you will see an uprising,” he said.
- Nice, straight to they are guilty, give us stuff or we will attack. Simple, direct blackmail, unfortunately it will probably work.

US Captain Jason Coughenour said the allegations would be treated seriously.

“We respect your religion,” he said.
- We? Is there a mouse in your pocket Captain? I respect no ideology based upon the rants of a sick perverted murderous pedophile. That had nothing to do with the subjects but I wanted to work that in.

“We will launch an investigation and find out who has burnt the Koran. If it has been done by an American, we will punish him.”
- He lost right there, he effectively surrendered. He should have promised to look into it, reinforced that the allegations may be false and that Americans may not have been involved at all.

The US-led coalition yesterday confirmed the raid in which four men were arrested but denied that any religious articles were desecrated.
- This is what the Afghans really want, their men returned. The Koran desecration was a smokescreen. If our troops are stupid and let this stunt work, we will see this repeated over and over again.

Afghanistan is a deeply devout country and allegations of abuse of Islam have in the past touched off protests that have turned deadly.

There are about 55,000 foreign soldiers in Afghanistan, about half of them from the United States, helping Afghani security forces fight back an insurgency by the extremist Taliban movement that was in government between 1996 and 2001.
