Happy 232nd Birthday to the USMC

My Grandfathers baby brother fell on Iwo Jima. I have the only known picture of that young, proud warrior in uniform. Taken shortly before he shipped out for the last time, his smile was more of a smirk. It conveyed a simple strength and the knowledge of a timeless tradition. That tradition lives on in our deployed warriors who as you read this are in the thick of it. They carry strength formed from a bond going back 232 years. Paid for with blood and passed from generation to generation. They are ready capable and thank God, they are ours.
November 10 2007 is the 232nd Birthday of The United States Marine Corps. I looked at of pictures all over the net trying to find just the right one to celebrate and honor all Marines, past, present and future.
I picked this simple flag and challenge coin because it shows a simple determination and an ever-lasting promise. A promise that this generation will face and defeat our nations threats with the same simple honor, bravery and zeal that all Marines share.

Happy Birthday to all members of the Corp. We owe you all a debt we can never repay.

Now this is a fighting force with a great history. Unbeatable if left alone by stupid politicians. What a contrast to its enemy of today-cowards who kill civilians with vest bombs (or hide in caves like Bin Loser) because they’re too chicken to face such a force, knowing the outcome.

Ronin, thank you for remembering the United States Marine Corps birthday. Thank you for sharing about your Grandfathers baby brother.
My dad is a retired Marine. He served during WWII, Korea and the first year of Vietnam. Thanks dad and thanks to all Marines who have served and who are serving. SEMPER FI!
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.
Our flag’s unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev’ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job–
The United States Marines.
Here’s health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we’ve fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

Alex, where were you stationed? Just curious and you do not have to answer.

changedforever,
I have family members who have served in all branches of our military. I grew up listening to WW1 vets and then WWII and so it goes. Now I have nephews and nieces listening to me, some are now wearing their own uniform. I honor them all.

Ronin, Like you I grew up listening to vet’s. Unfortunately I never had the prividege of listening to one of my family members who fought in WWI. He died at a very young age. I did however listen to my dad and my brothers. Now, one of my nephews is on his way back to Iraq for his second tour. I honor them all also.

I had a few pints for those who gave their all.
BTW, I love women, but get the hell out of my Marine Corp!
