Former Congressman Charged with Conspiracy

This is MAJOR breaking news. I’m doing some more research and will comment on this in full later on, but I just wanted to get it posted as soon as possible. Be sure to let EVERYONE know about this:

Update: Alright… I’ve been doing some reading on Mark Siljander’s religious views, and I don’t think he knowingly committed these crimes he is accused of… It seems to me that he was used (and viewed) by his Muslim associates as a dumb rube to be used as a shill to lobby Congress under the guise of bridging the gap between Christianity and Islam… And, once he realized he had been suckered, he lied to congress to cover up his involvement…

Such is the price infidels pay when they unquestionably begin to believe those who conspire to do them (and us) harm.

P.S. – Jihad Watch has a really good thread going on this subject.

Ex-Lawmaker Charged in Terror Conspiracy

By LARA JAKES JORDAN

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday as part of a terrorist fundraising ring that allegedly sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.

The former Republican congressman from Michigan, Mark Deli Siljander, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.

A 42-count indictment, unsealed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo., accuses the Islamic American Relief Agency of paying Siljander $50,000 for the lobbying — money that turned out to be stolen from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Siljander, who served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, was appointed by President Reagan to serve as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations for one year in 1987.

Update: Here is some info on Mark Siljander:

Mark Siljander served for three terms as a Member of the United States Congress, where he served on the International Relations Middle East and Africa Subcommittees. He was the primary sponsor of the African Famine Relief Act and later appointed by President Reagan as a US Ambassador to the United Nations.

Ambassador Siljander is a student of several languages, including Arabic, Aramaic, Hebrew, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, and has spent over ten years studying the Scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

These experiences have led him to develop what he describes as “a unique paradigm for the peaceful resolution of conflict that has been successfully applied in several challenging areas of the globe”.

In 1996 he received the 1996 Mohandas K. Gandhi International Peace Award, for “…recognition of his courageous statesmanship in international reconciliation.”

Congressman Siljander is affiliated academically with the Edinburgh Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies.

Doc, you are so right… Vote all these m*th*rf*ck*rs out. The way this is going, with Bush’s comments on the 2nd amendment, we will soon be disarmed, and unable to protest.

“and I don’t think he knowingly committed these crimes he is accused of… It seems to me that he was used (and viewed) by his Muslim associates as a dumb rube to be used as a shill to lobby Congress under the guise of bridging the gap between Christianity and Islam… ”

Treason is Treason, and a rope is a rope.

“And, once he realized he had been suckered, he lied to congress to cover up his involvement”

Isn’t the cover up worse then the crime?
Again a rope is a rope.

  3. “a rope is a rope”

Unfortunately, when one gets into the legalities of the U.S. Justice system, one discovers that some ropes are strings and some strings are are ropes…. — (now, don’t get me started on “string theory…”)

Yes, he may be guilty of treason, but if he can prove he was unknowingly duped and used by the Islamists, then he’ll probably be cleared of that charge.

As to the cover-up being worse than the crime…. Not necessarily so. What’s worse; killing someone, or hiding the body via dismemberment? To the person getting killed, I’m pretty sure the killing was worse than the dismemberment….

If it can be shown that he was indeed lying about why he received money from the Islamists, (he claims it was for a book he is working on), and it can be proven that he lied to cover up his involvement, then he should be prosecuted for both the lie AND the crime…

Hmmm…. The more I think about it, the more I see your point….

It really doesn’t matter if he was a dumb rube or not…

    Guilty is as guilty does….
When you play with fire, you risk getting burned….

But, I still can’t help feeling sorry for him…
    Cheers
