Statistics on U.K.’s Forced Marriages only “Tip of the Iceberg”

Judge warns on Britain’s forced marriage toll
24 Jan 08 – Telegraph.co.uk
Official statistics on forced marriage reflect only the “tip of the iceberg” of a much larger problem in Britain, a district judge has warned.
Judge Marilyn Mornington called for a campaign to raise awareness of forced marriage in the media and schools, in the hope of changing attitudes in communities of Asian origin and encouraging victims to come forward.
She said the Foreign Office’s Forced Marriage Unit had told her that, on top of about 500 cases it deals with each year, it receives a further 1,000 calls relating to individuals.
She also suggested there were many more cases that did not come to the unit’s attention. One women’s organisation in Derby was receiving 300 calls a month, she said.
Judge Mornington, who gave evidence on the issue to the Commons home affairs committee on Monday, deals with family cases in the county courts of South Yorkshire.
She told BBC Radio 4’s Today: “We have to remember that, even with these distressing figures, the vast majority of the Asian population and the other groups that practise forced marriage feel equally abhorrent as we do towards these practices.
“But it is a very difficult area that we need to tackle…I think we have to have a multi-faceted approach, as has worked with domestic violence in the last 10 years.”
Muslim women will be enlisted in the fight against extremism to persuade their sons and husbands not to take part in terror attacks, the Government has said.
Communities Secretary Hazel Blears is writing to all local authorities demanding they do more to encourage Muslim women to pay a bigger role in society.
She wants them to invite women of all ages from the Muslim community to take part in education and training, while encouraging them to talk their male relatives out of talking part in violent extremism.

“the vast majority of the Asian population and the other groups that practise forced marriage feel equally abhorrent as we do towards these practices.”
Would that be the 50% of women that are ‘asian’?

Is anyone really stupid enough to marry a Muslim male willingly?
24 January, 2008 at 6:40 pm
If you are a “poor, vulnerable” woman, yes….. but all the advantages are for the man anyway , see this story:

These women shouldn’t be convincing their men to not be terrorists-they should be convincing them to dump the Koran. This would do everyone a lot of good, especially the Muslimas.

How romantic
DB!
I really like that.

And its more a cultulral thing.. You got the web right infront of you all u have to type is Does islam allow forced marriages?

That’s funny. I just googled that exact phrase, and came across this:
http://www.answering-islam.org/Silas/slavery.htm
Next you’ll be saying that slaves are free to give consent.
You brainwashed bimbo.
How can you demean yourself following this evil kiddie-fucker Moham?
QUOTE
33:50 – “Prophet, We have made lawful to you the wives to whom you have granted dowries and the slave girls whom God has given you as booty.”
- This verse clearly shows that Muslims believe that taking slaves in war was a God-given right. These slaves were considered ‘booty’ or the spoils of war. As the saying goes: to the victors go the spoils.
23:5 – “… except with their wives and slave girls, for these are lawful to them:…”
- The passage’s context here (not quoted in full) details how Muslim males are allowed to have sexual relations with their wives and slave girls. Implicit in this is that Muslim males had slave-concubines. 70:30 is basically a repeat of 23:5.
Ibn Sa’d’s “Tabaqat”, gives a clear description of Muhammad having “relations” with at least one of his slave girls. Muhammad had sexual relations with Mariyah, his Coptic slave. Mariyah and her sister, Sirin were slaves given as gifts to Muhammad. Muhammad gave Sirin to Hasan Thabit, the poet. Ibn Sa’d says that Muhammad “liked Mariyah, who was of white complexion, with curly hair and pretty.” [Taken from Ibn Sa'd's "Kitab al-Tabaqat al-Kabir" (Book of the Major Classes), p151].

Dear Muslim Girl,
I just want to express my sympathy for you.
It must be tough to realize that your daddy/brothers/boyfriends/husband are allowed to take sex-slaves, rape non-muslims, screw around with non-Muslim punanny, “temporarily marry” rancid whores and come home to further spread whatever pox they contract; but you’re only limited to being stuck with Muslim dick.
No wonder you’re annoyed!
And if you get attached to some man (who of course is worth twice what you are) he can use you as a starter breeder and then humiliate you by bringing home some young bint and you’ll have to listen to her moaning while you’re forced to wash her dirty knickers.
Wow, it’s tough to be a Muslimah, ain’t it?
+ + +
Why is that any discussion of orthodox Muslim morality makes one feel the need for a shower?
21 January, 2009 at 4:25 am
Muslim girl,
Respect has to be earned. It can start with you. Expose the islamic clerics that preach hate, identify the pedophiles inside your community and protect the children of islam. Help authorities identify those who trick young boys into dying for a seventh century myth. Then come back and ask us to re-look and re-measure islam.
Good luck.

Well, expose what, and why?
That’s not true. And if you think all Muslim families force their female relatives to get married; then think again. It’s not nice to judge people when you don’t know a thing about them.
26 October, 2009 at 12:37 pm
OMG- SO TRUE!
7 July, 2009 at 8:22 am
muslima
We sadly have gotten to know islam from its sources and islamist actions.
This includes forced marriages, honor killings and muhammads various dealings…
26 October, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Well, hello
I can see that you’re very close-minded…
“We sadly have gotten to know islam from its sources and islamist actions. ”
How can you say that?
You’re accusing ALL Muslims of being resposible for all this nonsense..
Yet, you’re gonna bother to say “no, that’s not what i said”, although sometimes we need to read between the lines, and think OUTSIDE the box.
For example, how you kindly said “Islamist Actions”, i am guessing refers to the Bombings?
If you say all Muslims are responsible for the bombings; that is like saying all Jews are responsible for the Gaza/Israel conflict-which obviously is not true!
26 October, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Really muslim girl 2
Yet muslims can stop jihadists and stop the useless violence and other flaws within islam so people like me can stop criticizing it.
But they dont…
27 October, 2009 at 10:31 am
Well, as you think that “Muslims can stop this, and stop that”, we can all say America can stop poverty-yet does it do that? No.
Many Muslims are probably thinking on the same lines as you, although some stupid dumb Muslims who think that they are fighting for the religion of Islam don’t realsie the impact that they are causing-just don’t blame it on ALL Muslims or criticise Islam.
it’s like every religion, it has it’s own Pros and cons.
27 October, 2009 at 12:24 pm
You keep trying to assume that poverty can be stopped with American dollars.
Poverty has not been stopped with money but hard work, employemnt, education and more.
27 October, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Islam is not merely a religino but an entire flawed system.
If muslims correct the flaws then criticism can ease or stop.
Something to consider…
26 October, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Muslima girl 2
Islamist actions mean:
bombings
rapes
various other jihadi attacks
killing christians in islamic countries…
The list of atrocity just continues on…
And by the way… You can thank the attacks of ahmed deedat for closing my mind…
27 October, 2009 at 10:34 am
All i’m trying to say that it’s the media and stuff like that chat shiiiiiit like that!
If you actually bother trying to get to know a Muslim; you’ll find that they are far from your “Judgement”.
27 October, 2009 at 10:40 am
If you actually bother to read the koran, you will find that “allah” tells his followers not to be friends with Jews and Christians – nothing to do with the media, and everything to do with the “god” of islam.
27 October, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Well, God made people different, to see how they’d come together and what they’d do.
and this is supported by all religions!
27 October, 2009 at 12:23 pm
I dont need the media to tell me whats wrong with islam as a system.
Muslim blogs, websites tell me all I need to know.
I dont really need muslim friends. Mostly because there arent any to befriend here anyway.
27 October, 2009 at 12:04 pm
I am aware of that!
However, i think that is called “Terrorists actions” rather than “Islamist Actions”!
27 October, 2009 at 10:40 am
When people see a guy a Muslim guy with a beard and a prayer hat; they “assume” that he’s a suicide bomber or terrorist. whereas you see David Beckham with his peircings and Mohicaan you think he’s a trendsetter?
You see a Muslim woman vield in black, and you think she’s a “sex-slave” or a baby-machine.
whereas you see a woman semi-maked and you think she’s liberated?
27 October, 2009 at 10:42 am
Reads like an assumption on your part.
27 October, 2009 at 12:01 pm
well, it’s not an “assumption”-please try to understand.
I honestly, really, really, don’t like comparing, but …
‘…Desperate needs require desperate measures…’
People can also say that, ot question infact that how was Jesus a miracle worker?
Deuteronomy 5:6–21
6 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;
7 you shall have no other gods before me.
8 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me,
10 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Is no. 9 even true?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Commandments
27 October, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Actually thats another assumption…
Most women do not wear ’sexy’ clothes in public. You have that wrong. A ‘liberated’ woman or feminist is one who can hold a job or education without male advice, commands and permission.
“Not every muslim is a terrorist”…
And yet most terror acts are carried out by a muslim for whatever reason.
27 October, 2009 at 12:52 pm
whatever_i’m done with trying to make you understand! but you’re so stubborn!
Geez!( GIRL sighs)
27 October, 2009 at 1:01 pm
“Geez!( GIRL sighs)”
Why not say “Mohammad!( GIRL sighs)”,
rather than a corruption of the Lord’s name, which is not to be taken in vain?
On terrorism, it is allah who instructs his followers to fight against those who, like me, do not believe “allah” (except as a manifestation of satan) and the last day in an islamic sense. End Times, yes, Day of the Lord, yes.
28 October, 2009 at 10:19 am
OH, SORRY!
I didn’t mean it as in “Jesus (sigh).
I meant it as “Boy(sigh)”
do you get me?
27 October, 2009 at 1:30 pm
muslim girl 2
When or IF I see a muslima, or a bearded muslim.
I donot think of ‘terrorist’…
I think of a person whom God loves who are in need of him to forgive them of thier individual sins.
The only time I see a muslim as a terrorist is any of thier online writings and physical actions inform me of thier intent.
Otherwise muslims as people must accept evetual criticism for the writings and deeds of thier own whom they could have stopped but dont.

Well, that’s not what i read on a petition signed by non-Muslims!

And your point about the 10 commandments muslim girl 2?
