Illegal Immigrants Can Pick Lettuce, But They Can’t Pick Up Their Own Trash?
Note to illegals: For Pete’s sake! Clean up after yourselves! Where do you think you are? Mexico or something?

Groups Struggle to Clean Up Mess Illegal Immigrants Leave Behind
Fox News
The latest battle in the war on illegal immigration isn’t over the smuggling of undocumented workers, it’s over the trash they leave behind.
Government officials and border activists say the garbage dumped in the desert by illegal immigrants and their smugglers is staggering.

And the cleanup is costing taxpayers millions.
In 2006 alone, more than 1.18 million pounds of trash was collected along southern Arizona border, many in the meeting spots where immigrants rest, change clothes and wait to hitch a ride further north with a smuggler.
“You can find everything,” said Shela McFarlin, special assistant for international programs at the Arizona Bureau of Land Management. “Blankets, airline tickets, Bibles, wedding pictures, photos of children, school reports, because clearly people don’t tend to throw away everything they’ve brought with them — they’re forced to.”
Arizonia officials have spent approximately $4.4 million over five years to clean up the mess, that continues to build with each crossing. Nearly $1 million was spent for 2007 from a base BLM appropriation.
Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, which covers most of the Arizona border, doesn’t have statistics about how many people cross through each year, but on average, agents apprehend 1,500 people a day, with 378,000 undocumented immigrants caught in 2007 alone.
The trash is a problem that activist groups, like the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, say will not stop until the nation’s southern border is secured.

“It’s just like a flood,” said Chris Simcox, the president of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. “You can’t clean up the floodwaters until you stop the flood and fix the dam.”
Successful efforts by the Border Patrol to secure well-trafficked crossing spots in San Diego and El Paso have forced many immigrants to cross through federal and state lands along the Arizona border adding to the trash problem, McFarlin said.
Since 2003, the Arizona BLM has run a project to mitigate the damage caused by the migration of illegal immigrants along the state’s border with Mexico.

“What we’re beginning to wonder is how extensive is the problem?” McFarlin said. “How many millions of pounds of garbage? How many roads are really damaged? How many miles of illegal trails?”
McFarlin’s agency works with local government, student volunteers and civic groups to bag trash in wilderness areas frequented by immigrants. The BLM also disguises smuggling roads by planting new vegetation over the desert tracks carved by smugglers.
“The first thing you notice if you were to drive across some of this land is you see water bottles, lots of water bottles,” McFarlin said. “Where people stop to wait to be picked up — we call them ‘layup’ spots — then you will see more of the clothing, medicine bottles, papers, everything.
“We recently cleaned up one location with almost 4,000 backpacks left behind,” she said.
Simcox said his group cleans up the private lands of ranchers who help them on their quest to monitor the border.
“We’ve seen it time and time again, where we go in and clean up these areas and within months they’re just filled again with the same debris,” Simcox said.
The Arizona BLM and the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps do not work together on cleanup efforts.
Both groups say it may take years to correct.
“Truly, it’s a national disaster of our cherished outdoor areas,” Simcox said.

And some people think we need more of this sort of immigration-those who advocate this BS should be forced to clean up this mess. At least then they would be engaged in useful work.

It’s not just at the border but almost every where the illegal aliens live.
ISLAMFORLOSERS: I agree 100%.

This is racist….
just because illegal immigrants come through here does not means that they are the ones we should blame for this. many americans polute rivers and lakes which is more harmful than dessaerts. they lead to the oceans. u guys complain about some pollution out of the whole nation. another thing is that thoose pictures look fake. some of thoose backpacks look very new. and u can tell that the backpacks are brands sold in the us. also most of the items in the pictures look almost new. mexicans would never leave behind good condition clothes or backpacks. lastly, i only see back packs and clothes. unharmful chemicals!!! there is no food, waste, or other type of chemicals that is not cotton or polyester nor wool. you guys are bunch of loser and no bodies. face the facts then you can complain. as an overall, not only mexicans litter but so do many other people in the nation. mostly white people who own factories.

Is English your native language? I wouldn’t guess it is by looking at your writing – but your logic is what is really bothering me. Of course the backpacks are brands from the US – most are made in China! Don’t you think Mexicans can buy cheap Chinese backpacks? The fact is, the litter also consists of human feces, animal carcasses, dumped antifreeze, tires, oil, and sometimes drugs…the hospitals all along the border are going bankrupt because of illegals, the ranchers can’t keep up with herd losses due to cut fences, and here in New Mexico, a huge portion of our tax dollars go to educating people who don’t pay taxes and leave for half a year at a time, so the kids end up staying here are as teenage dropout gangbangers who contribute to the thriving flow of cartel drugs coming up from El Paso. (New Mexico only graduates 46% of it’s 8th graders)
The tragedy is that the people losing this “trash” material are desperate enough to sacrifice personal belongings they couldn’t afford – they just aren’t ready for the harshness of the desert and the fear of losing their lives. There are plenty of factories in Mexico that aren’t owned by white people – and they have terrible safety records, low wages, and they pollute (notice the spelling?) the Mexican soil, air, and ocean far worse than US companies. What are the Mexicans escaping? Why don’t they stay in Mexico and change the system so they can have pride in their own country?
You might try asking one of the the 2 million US citizens who are losing their jobs EVERY MONTH, partly because of NAFTA, which has resulted in the loss of a huge number of US manufacturing jobs. What are US citizens doing to regain control of this country and our economy? Just watch – we are at a tipping point…the unrest has already begun. Watch and learn as an educated citizenry who have fought and died to keep their freedom (unlike Mexico) seek to restore the US as a democratic republic with a Bill of Rights and a truly powerful Constitution. Oh, that means “LAW” – and illegal immigrants ARE breaking the law.

why don’t you protect the boarder…instead of cleaning up after them once they get through…stop complaining if you not going to do anything to prevent it

You,ve got to be kidding.Where have you been? Not in Arizona… We voted for the employer sanction laws by a large percentage. Now the feds and our exgov.Nappy are doing all they can to stop Sherrif Joe from enforceing the law.Seems like we are supposed to have a border fence being installed also but I sure won,t hold my breath. They jail our border patrol for shooting back.Doc has a new post up today about another new sanction were trying to enforce. If the federal government would butt out ,Arizona would take care of it,s borders.

At least the people now have a law that they can use. The illegal lovers in office are going to find this hard to fight. Trying to defend illegals could cost them their jobs. The people spoke and Paoo goes.
