U.S. STILL #1 Donor to World Food Program; Muslim Nations Miserly…

Obviously, Muslims are real good at ignoring the third pillar of Islam (the giving of zakat, or alms to the poor) when it might just possibly go out to the infidels…

Yup, this is some real good ammo to throw at our Muslim apologist friends!

A Gulf in Giving: Oil-Rich States Starve the World Food Program

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his top lieutenants on Monday are convening the first meeting of the U.N.’s Task Force on the Global Food Crisis. Ban says it will “study the root causes of the crisis,” and propose solutions for “coordinated global action” at a summit of world leaders in June.

Ban might want to consider convincing the oil-rich nations of the Middle East to provide more than the near-invisible amount of money they currently give to the World Food Program (WFP), the U.N.’s food-giving arm, which is charged with alleviating the food crisis.

WFP internal documents show that the major oil producing nations of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) gives almost nothing to the food organization, even as skyrocketing oil prices and swollen oil revenues contribute to the very crisis that the U.N. claims could soon add 100 million more people to the world’s starving masses.

The overwhelming bulk of the burden in feeding the world’s starving poor remains with the United States and a small group of other predominately Western nations, a situation that the WFP has done little so far to change, even as it has asked for another $775 million in donations to ease the crisis.

Donor listings on WFP’s website show that this year, as in every year since 1999, the U.S. is far and away the biggest aid provider to WFP. Since 2001, U.S. donations to the food agency have averaged more than $1.16 billion annually — or more than five times as much as the next biggest donor, the European Commission.

This year, the U.S. had contributed $362.7 million to WFP just through May 4, according to the website. That figure does not include another $250 million above the planned yearly contribution that was promised by President George W. Bush in the wake of WFP’s April warning that a “silent tsunami” of rising food costs would add dramatically to the world population living in hunger. Nor does it include another $770 million in food aid that President Bush has asked Congress to provide as soon as possible.

On the other hand, Saudi Arabia, with oil revenues last year of $164 billion, does not even appear on the website donor list for 2008.

Click here to see the 2008 donor list.

And while Canada, Australia, Western Europe and Japan have hastened to pony up an additional $260 million in aid since WFP’s latest appeal, the world organization told FOX News, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the international oil cartel, tossed in a grand total of $1.5 million in addition to the $50,000 it had previously donated.

The OPEC total amounts to roughly one minute and 10 seconds worth of the organization’s estimated $674 billion in annual oil revenues in 2007 — revenues that will be vastly exceeded in 2008 with the continuing spiral in world oil prices.

The only other major oil exporter who made the WFP list of 2008 donors was the United Arab Emirates, which kicked in $50,000. UAE oil revenues in 2007 were $63 billion.

By contrast, the poverty-stricken African republic of Burkina Faso is listed as donating more than $600,000, and Bangladesh, perennial home of many of the world’s hungriest people, is listed as donating nearly $5.8 million.

    Now now-we can’t have these Cesspoolians wasting all that hard stolen money on starving people. Hell, they need it to buy politicians, build mosques, fund jihads, etc. The starving masses will simply have to be fed by the usual suspects while they continue to fatten the pigs’ trough via unjustified high oil prices.

    And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

    In 2004 the US’s initial pledge for Tsunami relief in Asia was only $15 million dollars. We are the richest nation in the world and we can only come up with $15 million? That’s a disgrace.

    We eventually ponied up more, but only after criticism from the U.N. and others for being cheap. Rightfully so.

    Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are above us in the list of donors for that disaster. We don’t always do the right thing, either. It’s worse when we have to be pushed by international agencies to do so.

    madmonq

    Waaah! Waaah!

    The initial amount the U.S. committed to the U.N. was just a starting figure and was ALWAYS expected to be increased once Congress had approved of the increase. That is the way a Democracy Works! You have to wait for the gears to mesh…

    You forgot to add in the donations from private individuals in the United States that FAR exceeded all else…

    Also, including private donations and excluding corporate donations, the U.S. gave over 2.8 Billion Dollars to the tsunami ravaged areas… - More than TWICE the amount of the next leading contributor - Australia (1.322 Billion).

    Using the same criteria as above:
    (All amounts are approximate)

    Saudi Arabia =370 Million
    UAE = 20 Million
    Turkey =40 Million
    Qatar = 26 Million

    Compare those figures with the following:
    Australia = 1.3 Billion (BTW - per capita, it was the BIGGEST contributor)
    Germany = 1.3 Billion
    UK = 795 Million
    EU = 615 Million

    Heck, even the Netherlands, at 510 Million, gave MORE money than Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, and Katar combined!

    Now, if I add in the Corporate Donations, the figures go off the chart and the U.S. is still the #1 contributor.

    Heck, even G.W. Bush chipped in $16,000 of his personal cash… And, that Evil Zionist Joooo, Steven Speilberg, contributed 1.5 Million Dollars out of his own pocket!

    Bottom line - OPEC nations SUCK at giving . The U.S. and Australia ROCK!

  6. madmonq Says:

    I didn’t forget. Your post was about nations, not individuals. I followed the reasoning you set forth, you changed the rules to make yourself feel big. So what are you bitching about?

  7. doctorbulldog Says:

    No… My post was about Muslims following that third pillar of Islam.

    And, my comment was in response to your fallacious assertion that Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar supposedly contributed more money than the U.S. for aid to countries hit by the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004. It had nothing to do with making myself ‘feel big,’ it had everything to do with setting the record straight.

    ……….

    But, since you want Governments:

    Saudi Arabia = 300 Million
    UAE = 20 Million
    Qatar = 25 Million

    Turkey = 28.9 Million (note: Turkey is NOT an OPEC nation, but a westernized Muslim nation, so I thought I would include it to help boost the dismal numbers coming from Islamic nations)…

    U.S. = 950 Million
    Germany = 679 Million
    UK = 140.3 Million
    EU = 615 Million

    Netherlands = 300.5 Million

    And, (drum roll, please!) - —— Australia = 1.1 BILLION !!!!!

    So, OPEC Nations still SUCK, The U.S. and AUSTRALIA ROCK!

    And, it should be noted that the U.S. Citizens donated 1.875 BILLION Dollars out of their OWN pockets! — THEY RULE! and have earned MY respect! - Unlike the stingy citizens and governments belonging to OPEC nations….

  8. madmonq Says:

    No one is disputing America/Australia rah rah rah. But those other countries did give something. Is there a percentage over 10 million that’ll meet your standard for the 3rd pillar? Maybe we should stop sending Saudi Arabia our money to so they can stop keeping it or not give it away. Or stop sponsoring terrorism with it.

  9. doctorbulldog Says:

    “Maybe we should stop sending Saudi Arabia our money to so they can stop keeping it or not give it away. Or stop sponsoring terrorism with it.”

    That about sums it up.

    Cheers

    No need to worry as it is always quicker for us to erase their posts than they can re-post them. It is really a waste of their time. Most of the cyber jihadi are just the smaller weak kids who were to small physically to become real jihadi murderers. The daily rapes by the bigger muslim boys really messed them up, physically and mentally.

    Amazing.

    America (much like any nation on Earth) has its problems, but there is no way to compair it in history to countries who are bad actors.

    America gives more period. I don’t think it should even be an argument if it is done or not, the question is why doesn’t OTHER nations do it too.

    The answer is, for the most part, they don’t want to. The second answer is that they EXPECT America to because “its rich”.

    Other than Dubia and the rest of the United Emerits, I don’t expect many “Muslim” nations to give anything even if it is to their own nation. Luckily, some of these countries (some) are realizing that when they give and spread the wealth, it make life for everyone better. The US, Japan, Ireland, India, China and even some African nations (and more) have moved beyond their natural resources (if they even had any natural resources) and grow their economy into the trillions… but the Middle East just can’t seem to turn that oil revenue into the roots of a big economic tree. Oil doesn’t just drive cars and trucks. Its in plastics and electronics and also create other high need items…. but the Middle East hasn’t moved anywhere while the rest of the world is starting to get it. The United Emerites is starting to get it but that is about it.

    ideally - we should be donating & helping people get back on their feet in constructive ways - not dependant ways

  19. Ronin Says:

    That sounds great Kristie but in many countries the rulers steal the aid and unless troops are on the ground they starve their rivals. One key indication of trouble is a quick refusal to allow in aid.

  20. rltjs Says:

    Others may find this outrageous, but I think the world will soon be spinning right if everyone acts like Saudi Arabia as reported there. I think people of generous nations should tell their governments to stop all the dole-outs to the miserable world. Imagine miserable people setting helplessly with arms out-reached for alms while they seat on great agricultural potentials.

    The miseries in the third world will not end as long as these dole-outs keep coming. The leaders of these miserable countries worries less so that I bet, because they don’t think much, they have cooler heads which are just right environment for lice.

    If alms cease flowing, leaders of these miserable lands would soon be like sitting on fire, eventually good for these nations in the end.

    Maybe poor nations can have loans. And lenders should directly run those loans or else International aid ends up like secret mansions outside of those poor lands instead of developing say, their agriculture. Corruption – that’s one reason why there is widespread misery in there.

    Yes, helping people get back on their feet in constructive ways - not dependant ways

  21. Norm Says:

    It is great that the US is giving 1.16 billion dollars to the World Food Program. Did you know that the US will spend at least 623 billion dollars on the military this year. The US Government had a revenue of 2568 billion dollars last year, which makes their contribution to the WFP a whopping .04% of their revenue while spending 24% on the military.

    The average household income in the US is $48201. if we followed the government example that would mean the average citizens should give $19.28 per year to charity and spend $11568 on guns and ammo!

    Don’t get me wrong I am glad that the US gave 1.16 billion dollars to the WFP but it is only 0.04% of their budget. If someone takes the time to write the article with numbers maybe they should give all the numbers.

  22. Ronin Says:

    Norm,

    That’s what I do less than twenty bucks for charity and thousands for guns. Ammo, range fees ect add up to a bit more but it is well worth it.
