Police: Jonesboro Man Killed Daughter Who Wanted Out Of Arranged Marriage
Victim Had No Contact With Husband For 3 Months
JONESBORO, Ga. — A 25-year-old Jonesboro woman is dead after police said she told her father she wanted out of an arranged marriage.
Police said they found Sandela Kanwal’s body inside a home in the 9600 block of Utah Drive in Jonesboro. They said Kanwal had been strangled to death by her father, Chaudhry Rashid, 56.
“Apparently, she had been married and has had no contact with her husband who lives in Chicago for the last three months,” said Tim Owens of the Clayton County Police Department.
Owens said the victim and her father argued over the marriage and the fact that it had been arranged. “At some point during the altercation, he ended up killing his daughter,” said Owens.
Police said they have encountered numerous challenges with the case, particularly because of a language barrier.
Authorities are not saying how the victim was killed.

Police said the family is from Pakistan. Neighbors were shocked to hear about the tragedy. “My heart goes out. They seemed to be decent, lovely people,” said neighbor Veronda Luckett.

Rashid remains in jail charged with murder.

So, one does wonder why she jumped from the balcony if, as the author claims, the woman has every right to say, “no.”

when they say that she “jumped” from the balcony it can be an euphemism to say that someone “pushed” her… And that’s the version she’ll give to the police because she doesn’t want her beloved father go to jail….. In fact in Italian, they say that she “felt” from the balcony, it is not clear if it is a suicide or a murder attempt

This is Murder. These violent acts in the name of religion are heinous and unacceptable. There should be no compassion, no mercy for this individual. The father of the girl should be tried for Death Penalty and put to death surely and swiftly. Unfortunately, there is no other way to discourage this kind of a barbaric act. Muslims who kill their daughters in the name of Islam and honor are the worst and should never be pardoned. Even worse are those Muslims who keep quiet and don’t say a word against a member of their community who commits such a terrible act.

Chaudhry Rashid killed his daughter because she wanted a divorce AND was having an extra-marital affair…
Although Pakistan passed a law in 2004 supposedly banning “honor” killings by imposing a maximum 7 year sentence, you will find that the sentences for “honor” killings are actually averaging only about 6 months jail time… It amounts to nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Ergo, Sharia permits “honor” killings.
If Sharia law was truly opposed to “honor” killings, you know as well as I that the penalty would be much stiffer – like cutting off a hand, or a foot; or, stoning the killer…

The so called ‘religion of peace’ is so twisted and barbaric..I see no peace in it. If you renounce Islam, you can actually die for it. Where is the peace in that? and oppresive towards women.
