Obama Throws Rose at Ground Zero While McCain Gently Places Rose at Ground Zero

Memaw was watching the coverage of McCain and Obama at Ground Zero and called me up to inform me that Obama just threw his rose at Ground Zero instead of gently placing it at Ground Zero…

Now, you might think that this is making a mountain out of a molehill, but when you pile up molehill after molehill you wind up with a mountainous pile of dirt that is hard to miss…

Consider this:  Barack Obama spent most of his formative years in Indonesia and Hawaii.  He did not spend them on the Mainland – i.e., America.  Therefore, he does not fully understand American customs as well as a child raised in America would.

Again, one might think that not to be the case, but when you add into the mix the much publicized photo of Obama’s gaffe by being the only politician not to place his hand over his heart for the National Anthem during the Primaries, things start to add up:  Because of his polyglot nature, Obama really just doesn’t understand middle America…

I’ll post the video of Obama’s gaffe at Ground Zero when it becomes available.

Update: Alright, here is the promised video.  Out of the four videos I viewed on YouTube covering this event, this is the only one that shows Obama throwing his rose – some folks are doing some editing out there…

The event occurs at about 45 seconds into this video.  Notice how McCain is startled for a second when Obama commits the offense.  Yup, McCain knows that you don’t throw roses at a casket during a funeral and the same rule of etiquette applies to a Memorial…

UPDATE 2: The old video was yanked by youtube.  I have embedded a newer video that specifically concentrates on the throwing of the rose:

i don’t see how any man unsupported can go to any grave without his greatest supporting factor in his life. yes i understand and am not criticizing michelle obama for staying at home, but a man who comprehends the weight of such a vast memorial, would have brought support if he comprehended it.

i chalk this up to the countless points running against obamas comprehension.

also might i add, that biblically, people followed jewish and later christian customs whether they fully understood them, in reverence of how much jews and christians supported their god. it doesn’t take a valid understanding of traditions, to honor them.

and lastly, when a person falls in love, they bring home flowers when its not necessary, they get the seat at a restaurant. all things that are seemingly useless at the time, but present how much a person cares, these things are not just American customs, but such honorable practices go back to any civilization.

the point is, when you truly love, you do stupid little things that are just symbolic and don’t really mean anything. rebellion seems fool hearty against something so glorious.

yet barack seems to hold it in spades, on a number of different issues. this has concerned me greatly from the first time he was publically shown as an orator. people who work on appearance in their life, often have little sustenance below the surface.

and obama has not yet proven to me otherwise.

I like how Oprahma is digging his own grave. I just hope voters bury him once and for all come November.

  3. JoeTexas Says:

Ah geez this is just getting dumb…really now?

  4. yonason Says:

McCain actually spends time talking with the First Responders, as zero-B waits impaiently behind McCain, because he spends no time with them, having nothing whatever in common with them.

  5. memaw Says:

It did shock me when I saw Obama throw the flower into the “memorial”. I had to call Dr. Bulldog and tell him. Surprisingly, it was Obama who called John McCain after he received his(McCain) party’s nomination for President and suggested that on 9/11 they call a truce and go to ground zero. Watching Obama, unless I’ve missed something in the past, I figure Clinton gave him some pointers on how to work the crowd. He seemed to spend a longer time talking with the people and doing a lot of touching, even to telling one person that he would give them a card. I couldn’t figure out if it was that he was going to make sure this person was registered to vote and they would make sure they got registered or if this person wanted to work for his campaign. McCain, meanwhile was thanking everyone he could for what they have done as he and Cindy went down the line. I didn’t see him “campaigning”.

  6. ER Says:

I, too, found Obama’s toss unsettling and very, very strange; not the somber flower placement typical of those showing respect. It’s like he’s on a totally other page, a different book, no sense of identification with those of us in mourning.

  7. jmb Says:

    don’t forget…he was working w/out a teleprompter.

what I noticed is that he followed McCain’s lead about when to leave. To me, it looked very obviously like someone who didn’t know the prototcols and customs of a strange land and so just followed the one who did know.

  8. Cathy Says:

What do you expect? Obama is so heartless, What a disscrace to our country and all the wonderful people who died in 911, that he feels he can throw a rose on the grave, as if it’s a trash pile. How dare that man, if his numbers don’t drop after this, All I can say is there are some pretty stupid people out there wanting him for a president, and they deserve every thing they will get in the future.

  9. Gramfan Says:

I saw the film clip here. The first thing I noticed was BHO tossing the rose(?).
    I thought: how odd!
I could hardly believe it but it was true.
Aussie ‘blogger Andrew Bolt has a whole thread on this incident.

Does anyone else think he is getting rattled and making more mistakes?
Intrade betting has McCain somewhat above BHO last time I looked.

A friend, (politically savvy) suggests McCain will win the popular vote.

May I also say my heart is with the US on 9/11. I was in the US that day myself and I will never forget it.

Oh hey . . listen! I know you are busy! Is this too much for you now? I mean tell you what. I will come back tomorrow. Give you some time to get these things together, you know? I mean, I know you are busy, so I will just let myself out. I will be back tomorrow. And the day after. .

“Who wants to know these things?” asked Senator Obama.

    Columbo answered:
    THE PEOPLE

    Actually, just the SMART people……………….”

I haven’t checked any of it – but some of you may already know the answers.

  11. UNBELIEVABLE Says:

You gotta be kidding me? This is petty nonsense, a junior high response to what should never have ever been a thought, let alone a discussion. There is a war going on in the middle east, a crisis b/w Russia & Georgia, numerous earthquakes, hurricanes, devastation, hunger, darfur, not to mention domestic economic crisis issues, etc… and people are actually discussing how a man chooses to drop a rose at a memorial site. UNBELIEVABLE. what is this dr. phil, body language reading 101? get outta here w/ all of this petty, ridiculous & embarrassing focus on zero substance non issues. another example of people getting caught up & lost. all of this “petty” juvenile finger pointing is not doing much except damaging the GOP. GOP & supporters are behaving like 5th grade finger pointing, tattle telling, juvenile manipulating children. it’s embarrassing.

  12. Unbelievable,

Sometimes it is those “petty” things that betray one’s ability, or lack thereof, to handle the larger things in life…

    Cheers

  13. teach5 Says:

Where was Michelle? Appearing on Ellen! He is vacuous as to the depth of 9/11, and it’s obvious by his appearance and behavior at the site. This was just another stop to him. Without any life experiences to compare to McCain’s he’s an empty suit.

  14. OHMom Says:

I think this video sums up the diff. between the two. One Presidential and the other well… not. I love the way Cindy and John look into the eyes of all they are talking with -so ready to be our Pres. and First Lady. You can see Obama standing and waiting for Mac to approach the “memorial” for guidance. 9/11 we will never forget…

  15. Bob Says:

Mr. McCains respectful placing of the rose, vs Obamba’s toss (as if throwing it away) tell me a lot more about both men than I’ve heard either of them say in words.

  16. tom Says:

How can I forward this to some of my friends?

  17. tom,

Unfortunately, we don’t have an “email to a friend” button. But, you can copy the URL of this page and then paste or create a hot-link for it in the body of your email text.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I asked Matt (at WordPress tech support) about this very same issue about a year ago. As you can see, he still hasn’t added the option…

    Cheers

  18. Ashleigh Says:

That was really interesting to watch. McCain was is an obviously natural leader. Obama looked like a little boy following McCain’s lead, but McCain was so genuine and warm and focused on the people. Obama looked like he was just going through the motions and he “had” to be there.

I also thought it strange that Michelle was not there? 7/11 is a special day, and I’m sure they had plenty of advanced notice. I mean, that would have been such a special thing for the Obama children to attend. I can’t imagine what could’ve taken precedence over attending there with her husband. ?????

I am very disenchanted with Obama and more and more, I do not understand his appeal to people. He looked bored and uncomfortable while John and Cindy looked just plain genuinely real.

I also thought the people responded better to McCain, even giving him and his wife some sort of pins. I personally would’ve loved to meet him. I don’t agree with all his stances, but I am really liking his personality more and more… thanks to The View (in which he was bashed but he was so likeable despite it), the 9/11 debate forum thing, and his choice of Sarah Palin. I didn’t think much of him before Palin, but he’s really “growing” on me, and I love his warm, goofy smile!

I also thought it was interesting how the video was MSNBC, who are very pro-Obama, but yet the camera was primarily on McCain (as if they couldn’t quite stop watching his interaction with the people), and they questioned Michelle’s absence. Interesting also how they asked how this was for McCain, but not for Obama. But glad that the answer was respectful and not biased or bashing him.

  19. Nicholas Says:

Re: understanding the depth of “9/11″. Someone didn’t get it, and gave a speech the other day telling soldiers off to occupy Iraq that they were “defending” someone from those who attacked NY on 11th Sept 2001.
Do you know people who still believe that transparent nonsense?

    Nico.

  20. Nicholas,

Yeah, and we shouldn’t have gone after the Germans in WWII. ‘Cause after all, it was the those Japs who attacked us, not those innocent, peaceful Germans…

Saddam Hussein was sponsoring terrorists – including al Qaeda.

Of course, I doubt you will actually read and comprehend all that… Such is your lot in life.

  21. mom_of_2girls Says:

How about the footage of Mrs. OB whispering to OB during the folding of the flag from ground zero, while the Emerald Society was playing and wanting to know “why that tattered old thing was here,” and him nodding his head with a smirk? I cannot find ANYTHING about that at all, but I know what I read her lips saying yesterday, and my blood has been boiling since!

    • mom_of_2girls,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Is this the incident you are talking about:

I don’t read lips very well, but it appears that she is saying something along the lines of “all of this for that flag?” I’m probably wrong, but regardless of what she said, to even whisper during the flag folding ceremony is VERY disrespectful. Her little eye roll and head shake in apparent disgust is even more disrespectful!

Of course, Barry nods in agreement with her and smiles that stupid, arrogant smile of his…

      Cheers
