Obama’s “Truth Squads” Censor Free Speech on BlogTalkRadio?
This is breaking news: In yet another Orwellian move by the Obamites, Tracy, over at “No Compromise when it Comes to Being Right” was shut down by blogtalkradio tonight when she was interviewing Phil Berg about the lawsuit against Barack Obama! Here is her post:
Phil Berg is my guest today on No Compromise Radio:
I scheduled a show with Attorney Phil Berg who has filed a lawsuit against Barack Obama for not being a US Citizen therefore he is an illegal alien.
My show was terminated at the beginning of the show. Why? The BTR assistant Director of Customer Relations, Shannon Dingee-Kramer stated that my show was, “racially or ethnically offensive, defamatory, unreasonably violent, threatening, intimidating or harassing; 2. contains falsehoods or misrepresentations that could damage BlogTalkRadio or any other person; (BTR red emphasis–not mine!)
In other words, those who claim to be for free speech are afraid of it when they see it, or hear it in this case! It might offend someone and that’s far more important to protect than the American Principle of exercising the flow of speech in the arena of public ideas.
So I am officially off the air until further notice thanks to the Obamunists and Islamists who support him!
P.S. – We are requesting that all of our readers email BlogTalkRadio and let them know what you think of them for kowtowing to Obama:
philiprecchia@blogtalkradio.com
Also, please join us in boycotting BlogTalkRadio until “No Compromises” is given her account back and allowed to interview Phillip Berg.
Cheers
UPDATE: No Compromises has given me permission to post her email address:

UPDATE #2: No Compromises has a list of contacts at BlogTalkRadio that need to hear YOUR voice!!! CLICK HERE for the links and her latest post on this egregious violation of our rights to Free Speech.
Also, for our fellow bloggers out there, please publicize her story. The world needs to know what kind of a monster Obama and his thugs are!

WONDER IF ATTORNEY BERG WILLING TO TAKE HER AS A CLIENT?
Let’s all hit radio and TV stations, telling them Obama campaign speeches and campaign ads are offense, misleading, damaging to McCain and Palin because they are lies, et. etc.
Surely some agency of our government can put a stop to this madness!
During half hour of “Wheel of Fortune” there were THREE differnet Obama ads, then another during 10 p.m. news. None of McCain/Palins shown on NBC

Bulldog,
I wanted to stop by and say thank you very much for your support of this situation. I am saddened, angry and disgusted at how those in power treat people like you and me. They are afraid, little crybabies, and boy I sure didn’t know how much power I really wielded! Boy, this fight has only just begun! Stay tuned!
Thank you!

Thought I’d done last e-mail for night, but will do one more for No Compromises.
Sent e-mail to FCC, copy to Philip Berg and KOMU and KMIZ TV stations.
Can you tell me if any others besides us read these blogs that put out the truth on “O”?

notalldum,
Oh, you’d be surprised at who reads these blogs. CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, etc.
Then they pick and chose what they want the public to know or not know… Rarely do they give the blogs credit, however… It’s an ego trip for them.
Well, I’m off to bed.
Cheers,
P.S. – I got your email and corrected a few spelling errors. I have emailed the corrected version back to you. Goodnight and God Bless.

This is yet another thing we shouldn’t have to deal with.
Doesn’t any one care about their free speech and those issues?
How is it that Muslims can have a parade with the most vile slogans showing and no one ever says anything like this?
“racially or ethnically offensive, defamatory, unreasonably violent, threatening, intimidating or harassing; 2. contains falsehoods or misrepresentations that could damage BlogTalkRadio or any other person; ”

BlogTalkRadio isn’t the government, it’s a private company. Thus, you have to abide by their rules for posting content. Read the Terms of Service. Shows aren’t yanked off the ar arbitrarily, their yanked for violating their terms of service. When you start spouting hate on someone’s else’s website (and again this is a PRIVATE company) you run the risk of having your show yanked.
Again, BlogTalkRadio is not the government, it’s a privately owned company with rules and terms of use.
I love BlogTalkRadio and everything it stands for. I’d prefer not to have it shut down which is why I follow the rules. Want to spout hate? Start your own website.

KC McCracken,
Before you start spouting off without knowing what you’re talking about (because YOU DIDN’T listen to the show), here is what someone who was present said in the comments:
“Tracy didn’t deserve this–I was there. They didn’t shut down another show that had J Corsi on, talking about Obama’s Kenyen ties with Odinga. Why only No Compromise?
An assistant BTR program manager made a snap decision, perhaps based on personal politics, without even hearing the 5 min Phil Berg was on. There were no threats, violence, racism, or anything of the other broad, and vague, accusations.
I don’t believe this was a BTR move, entirely–it was a little more personal, IMHO. Also, there was a BTR tech in the chatroom the entire 10 -15 minutes–and not so much as a swear word was uttered.
About 39-40 suspicious “guests” streamed in and, as soon as the show started crashing, they beat feet.
Are ACORN and CAIR running BTR, now? “

So the administrators at BlogTalkRadio are afraid that Berg will disseminate “falsehoods”?
But that’s ridiculous.
First of all, he’s a lawyer. He knows very well not to slander anyone. That’s why he’s never accused Obama of lying or committing fraud. If that were the case, then he’d have gone to the police or a prosecutor.
All he’s said is that there are serious discrepancies [O: I was born her. Sis: he was born there. Granny: He was born in Africa. BTW whatever happened to Obama's American granny? Is she now like Norman Bates mom?] in the stories about Obama’s birth, and has requested documentation.
There’s no excuse for what BlogTalkRadio have done.
how is it “spouting hate” to interview someone who has filed a lawsuit against someone, and asking them to explain their suit?

Here’s my letter to him. Can you tell I was angry?
Dear Mr. Recchia:
Yesterday Tracy was going to have Attorney Phil Berg on her blog radio show. Instead, he was not allowed to come on due to some excuse you gave that to have him on was “racially or ethnically offensive, defamatory, unreasonably violent, threatening, intimidating, or harassing;” and that it “contains falsehoods or misrepresentations that could damage BlogTalkRadio or any other person.”
When in America do we inhibit Free Speech? Isn’t that written into the Bill of Rights for every American to have free speech? How is questioning Barack Obama on his right to run for president under the Constitution “racially or ethnically offensive, …”? I think this is a good example of what will happen if Obama becomes President. We will all be inhibited from talking negative about him and we will have to go to “reeducation camps” to be brainwashed if we dare say anything negative about him. The Fairness Doctrine will cut off all free speech on conservative talk radio and TV stations. Because after all, he is the leftist Democrat party’s Messiah – the one to save them from the conservatives.
Give me a huge break! In the interests of Free Speech and the Bill of Rights for heaven’s sake let Attorney Phil Berg on the above-referenced blog radio show and don’t buy into the Obama Doctrine.
Thank you very much.

H. Obama.
I went on my computer and went to Yahoo and punched in World net dialy and nothing, ERROR PAGE; Then I went to google and punched in world net daily…
WEBSITES FOR BARAK OBAMA HOME PAGE CAME UP……………………………………!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I SWEAR TO GOD! I showed my son and we were just outraged!!!
I attempted from a websearch site and finally got thru to World net daily, but that shows you, that there are minions out there….working against the AMERICA PEOPLE!!!!

I sent my mail in support and will send the rest from your link. An interesting happening with Michelle Obama contacting African Press International. I am not sure if it was because of Berg or Dr Corsi, never the less it is an interesting read to say the least! She be PO’d about the white conservatives and black supporters of McCain(my take) and trying to get API on the boat with her or else they won’t be invited to Obama’s “innagural
speech” as POTUS! She insists they need to support him because he is black?

Obama unfamiliar with Truth
OBAMA THE ELUSIVE
Sorry this jumps all over the place. In fact it’s very difficult to discover even the most basic facts about this potential president.
* * * * *
In all his years at his “Black Values” church, Barack ibn Hussein Obama seems to have never heard that “The truth shall set you free.” The man seems to not even know the meaning of the word “Truth”.
Consider this amended “biography” from his official website:
Meet Barack
Barack [Hussein] Obama [Dunham] was born in Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. [somewhere, sometime: he refuses to make his birth certificate public [see "Hawaiian Law re Birth Certificates" below]; the only thing known for sure about his birth is that he was a bastard, according to American law, as his mother was one of his Muslim father’s concubines. He married Kezia (neé ?) in 1957, and had a son in 1958.] His father, Barack [ibn Hussein] Obama, was born and raised in a small village in Kenya, where he grew up herding goats [on his own estate. According to Philip Ochieng, one of Obama Sr's closest friend's, the Luoan Lothario was "imperious, cruel and given to boasting about his brain and his wealth." According to The Daily Mail: "Kezia and Barack Snr set up home in Jericho, a section of Nairobi created for government employees."] with his own father [Onyango Obama, 1870-1975, later Mzee Hussein Onyango Obama after converting to Islam], who was a domestic servant to the British. [He was a prominent and wealthy farmer, who had briefly worked as a cook in a missionary's home. I guess the missionary was "The British". Obama was disgusted to discover that his grandfather was in Obama's words, an "Uncle Tom. Collaborator. House Nigger." He also served with the British colonial army in India. For some reason, Obama is not proud of his black grandfather's military service.]
[His mother's] father worked on oil rigs during the Depression, and then signed up for World War II [six months] after Pearl Harbor, where he marched across Europe in Patton’s army.
His father…won a scholarship that allowed him to leave [his pregnant wife Kezia, and their young son, in] Kenya and pursue his dreams in America.
Barack’s father eventually [abandoned his Hawai'ian concubine, Stanley Dunham, and their infant bastard Barry Dunham, and] returned to Kenya [with his secret third wife Ruth Nidesand (Also called Ruth Ndesandjo, mother of Mark Ndesandjo, who resides in China with his Chinese girl-friend, and who Obama insulted in his book Dreams from My Father, for being a race-traitor, and for abandoning Kenya. See "Obama on his Brother's Race-betrayal," below.). In Kenya his communist leanings became more prominent, which brought him into conflict with the socialist government; had two sons with his second concubine and two more children with his despised African wife; became a drunk, crashed many times, and had his legs amputated; was "divorced" by Ruth after years of lies and beatings; hit rock bottom and was forced and return to his lowly African wife; and died in poverty, leaving at least eight orphans], and Barack grew up with his mother in Hawaii, and for a few [five] years in Indonesia. [This is where his Hawai'ian-resident Buddhist sister Maya Kassandra Soetoro-Ng was born to their Muslim Indonesian father. His mother abandoned "Obama" (or "O'Bomber", as he called himself at high school) when he was 16, and returned to Indonesia. Dunham-Soetoro worked in Indonesian rural development with U.S.A.I.D., the Ford Foundation, and Women’s World Banking; and worked on something in Pakistan. In spite of her deep commitment to sharing the sufferings of the poor brown folk, she returned to the United States to die. Obama, as he is generally known today, would have liked to have been with her, but he had other things to do. Obama remembered to use her death in a campaign ad though: "“My mother died of cancer at 53. In those last painful months, she was more worried about paying her medical bills than getting well.”
While his mother was helping the poor brown folk in Indonesia, Barry was gettin' high and, as he would later write in his autobiography, learning how to be black. At his private high school he hung around with all the other stoners, called the Choom Gang, the Chooms. Then off to college for young Barry, soon to be Barack when he discover his Arab consciousness.
“To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist Professors and the structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets. We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night, in the dorms, we discussed neocolonialism, Franz Fanon [Sic. Frantz Ibrahim Fanon, the philosopher par excellence of Black and Arab nationalist terrorism, and member of Le Front de Libération Nationale and El Moudjahid ( مجاهدين, The Mujahideen, Jihadis, "Holy Warriors"); Fanon: "Whoever says rape says Negro."], Eurocentrism, and patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake,we were resisting bourgeois society’s stifling constraints. We weren’t indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated.”
– Barack Obama, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, pp. 100-101]
[He] moved to Chicago in 1985, where he became a community organizer with [admitted terrorist, Pentagon-bomber, and al-Qaeda-supporter, Comrade Bill Ayers; with Michael "America Is The Greatest Sin Against God" Pfleger; and with Jeremiah "God DAMN America" Wright in] a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment. [As he himself notes, crime and drug-use increased, and living standards declined.]
His advocacy work led him to run for the Illinois State Senate, where he served for eight years [doing nothing. See "All Obama-sponsored legislation passed in the Illinois Senate" below].
Amid the partisanship and bickering of today’s public debate, he still believes in the ability to unite people around a politics of purpose – a politics that puts solving the challenges of everyday Americans ahead of partisan calculation and political gain [even though he has a 100% liberal voting record, a National Abortion Right Action League approval rating of 100%, and is the most liberal legislator in the Senate].
* * * * *
What does his “church-based group” believe in?
“We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land” … The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to … A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.”
This “church” doesn’t draw any firm distinction between Islam and Christ, and sees Jesus as a Black Palestinian committed to the overthrow of imperialist domination.
His wife, Michelle, who was ashamed of the United States of America until Barack ran for president, has even stronger racist and apartheid beliefs, and has sworn to always hold her black people above all others, as she wrote in her a sociology thesis of 1985 [PDF], written under the direction of Professor Walter L. Wallace:
“As a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost.”

Obama claims,
“My father was from Kenya and a lot of people in his village were Muslim. He didn’t practice Islam. Truth is he wasn’t very religious. He met my mother. My mother was a Christian from Kansas, and they married and then divorced. I was raised by my mother. So, I’ve always been a Christian. The only connection I’ve had to Islam is that my grandfather on my father’s side came from that country. But I’ve never practiced Islam. For a while, I lived in Indonesia because my mother was teaching there. And that’s a Muslim country. And I went to school. But I didn’t practice.”
This paragraph has more lies and distortions than truth.
His father lived in a village that was Muslim? What does that mean? His father was a Muslim. He had a Muslim marriage, three or four “wives”, and a Muslim funeral. Obama must really think that people are stupid. “The only connection I’ve had to Islam is that my grandfather on my father’s side came from that country.” What on earth does “from that country” mean? Does he mean the nation of Islam? Kenya? Kenya is mostly Christian. His grandfather was a Christian, who then as an adult rejected Christ in favour of Mohammad. He wasn’t just a Muslim because he was from a “Muslim village.” I get annoyed when people blatantly lie to me. And it’s another lie to say that his grandfather was his only connection to Islam, when his step-father (whom he was closer to and lived with longer than his real father) was a Muslim. Such nonsense this man spouts.
In an interview with Nicholas Kristoff on Feb. 27, 2007 (Published in The New York Times, March 6, 2007),
“Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer [the Muslim Call to Prayer; the Adhan], reciting them with a first-rate accent. Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”
Allah is Great. Allah is Great.
Allah is Great. Allah is Great.
I bear witness that there is no god except Allah.
I bear witness that there is no god except Allah.
I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.

Obama is uncertain that his parents ever actually married. Surely this would have been recorded on his birth certificate. If they were “married” then his father was a criminal. “How and when the marriage occurred remains a bit murky, a bill of particulars that I have never quite had the courage to explore,” Obama writes in his ficticious memoir, Dreams from My Father, which contains “composite” characters and changed names, as Obama confesses in the introduction.
“Except for public figures and his family, it is impossible to know who is real and who is not,” the Chicago Sun-Times’ Lynn Sweet has pointed out.
Obama, 2002:
“My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed [A LIE], fought in Patton’s army [A LIE]. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain [i.e. he did not fight].”
From his autobiography, “Dreams of My Father”:
“Gramps returned from the war never having seen real combat.”
Army records show that Stanley Armour Dunham signed up on June 18, 1942, six months after Pearl Harbor.
Good for him, no matter when he signed up, and it’s good that he did. Whether he was in combat or not, he helped defeat Nazi Germany and Japan. But what kind of a weirdo tries to make himself look good by lying to demean his grandfathers by denigrating their real lives?
Obama has said that his mother provided his greatest moral education. In spite of this, he has acted as if he has disowned her Marxism and has rejected her disdain for marriage. (“She always felt that marriage as an institution was not particularly essential or important,” said Nina Nayar…a close friend of Ms. Soetoro.). Obama writes that when his mother abandoned him in order to help the poor brown people of Indonesia in the way that only a PhD’d white woman can, “I was trying to raise myself to be a black man in America.” He has also rejected his mother’s agnosticism in favour of Black Jesus:
In their house, the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad-Gita shared shelf space with books on mythology. His mother viewed them all through the eyes of the anthropologist she was. Religion for her was “just one of the many ways – and not necessarily the best way – that man attempted to control the unknowable and understand the deeper truths about our lives,” Obama wrote in “The Audacity of Hope,” published in 2006.
According to his mother’s close friend, Julia Suryakusuma, Obama’s mother Stanley “was interested in religions but didn’t follow one. She was a free-thinker.”
Suryaskusuma also claims that his mother was ashamed of being white: “You know Ann was really, really white, even though she told me she had some Cherokee blood in her. I think she just loved people of a different skin colour, brown people.” According to Obama, a distant ancestor was a “full-blooded Cherokee.” (Perhaps in this we can detect his life-long regret that he himself is not “a full-blooded Negro”?)
What is known about his step-father Lolo is that he was a foreign student who brought the Soetoros (Lolo, Stanley and Barry) to Indonesia in 1967 under orders from the dictator Suharto. Lolo was a Muslim. He became a government relations consultant for a US oil company. Apparently he behaved differently in his native land than he had in the U.S. “He changed when he came back to Indonesia,” Suryakusuma recalled. “Men can be a certain way when they are in the West and when they come back they are sucked into their own culture.”
Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths,” Obama recalled. “He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.” “It was to Lolo that I turned to for guidance and instruction.”
In Dreams from My Father, Obama mentions a growing estrangement between his mother and stepfather as Lolo became closer to the ruling elite. He expected his wife to breed and brood more, while she became more committed to helping poor downtrodden brown-skinned strangers.
Stanley Soetoro [Obama's mother] helping the poor brown folks.
Obama claims that his parents were “forced” to separate because his father couldn’t afford to bring him and his mother with him to Boston. Besides the fact that Obama Sr should have been in jail for bigamy, or could have taken his new “family” back to Kenya with him, he could also have attended the New School for Social Research in New York City with a full scholarship that would have supported both him and his family, but instead preferred to attend the more prestigious Harvard, from which he received an M.A. [pdyer@fas.harvard.edu: "We do have a record that indicates a person by the name of Barack Hussein Obama graduated from Harvard University with an AM degree in Economics in 1965. -Pat Dyer Supervisor of Information Services FAS Registrar's Office Harvard University.]
Obama’s mother, Stanley Dunham-Soetoro, was apparently quite happy to be Obama Sr’s concubine:
Barack Sr, a Muslim, would go on to marry two more women – Barack Jr’s mother Ann Dunham, an American he met during a scholarship to the United States, and an American teacher called Ruth. But it was Kezia who remained his one true love and to whom he always returned. Strangely, Kezia and Ann became great friends, writing to each other often.”
According to The Muslim Observer, Obama’s father had at least one other child, George, towards the end of his life, with a young Kenyan woman.
According to Obama, in Dreams from My Father, his paternal grandfather was distressed about the family being polluted by white blood. He, “didn’t want the Obama blood sullied by a white woman”.
Obama claimed that his parents gave him an “African” name out of Afrocentric pride. Both Barack and Hussein are Arabic names.
DNC speech, 2004:
“My parents shared not only an improbable love, they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me an African name.”
His father had an abiding faith in the USA? Really?
His father’s family appear to either have no interest in his mother’s family (not even knowing their name) or expressing contempt:
According to the family, Obama’s father travelled to America to study at the University of Hawaii in 1959. While there, he worked for an oil company and married his second wife, a white woman, named Anna Toot, and their union produced Barack Obama Jr. …The [illegitimate] marriage later broke up after Anna’s father opposed it, according to Mama Sarah.” [Sarah Ogwel, Obama's grandfather's second concubine.] Anna’s father was furious about the marriage and threatened to have Obama Snr expelled from the university. Our son sent us letters, pleading that we intervene to save the [illegitimate] marriage,” remembers Sarah.
They hope to benefit from Obama’s American success:
Some of the people of Alego believe Obama’s rising fortunes will translate into increased employment opportunities, better roads and education opportunities. A few are even optimistic that even the dusty Nyang’oma-Kogello market will be upgraded to a big town, complete with an airstrip.
“We don’t expect a whole Senator to drive to his home village. We expect him to fly direct and land at Nyang’oma,” says George Onyango, a 20-year-old barber.
The prospective Senator’s sister-in-law Fauziah Anyango, wife to his step-brother Malik Obama, told the Sunday Nation that she was eager to meet her heroic in-law.
Said she: “I have not met him but I pray that he wins the Senate seat. His victory will not be for us, but for Kenya and Africa.”
Besides providing a moral example of how destructive Polygamy, Islam, Pride, Communism, and Addiction are, I couldn’t really care about Obama’s families. However, when he keeps lying and obfuscating about them all, and when he tries to use his fake biography for political benefit, people should really try to discover the truth about things.

“Vital records (birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates) for events that occurred in Hawaii are received and preserved by the Office of Health Status Monitoring, a unit of the Department of Health (DOH). In Hawaii, access to vital records is restricted by statute (HRS §338-18).”
Unless Obama is just embarrassed about the fact that he’s a bastard, and the likelihood that his parent’s engaged in matrimonial fraud, there are only three serious explanations for Obama’s bizarre insistence on keeping his birth certificate secret.
1. He engaged in fraud when obtaining some other form of ID.
2. His name is not officially Barack Hussein Obama.
3. He was part of a multiple birth.
Could it be that Obama’s twin is locked away in an attic somewhere?

When his father…died in 1982, “the family wanted a Muslim burial,” Obama quoted his brother, Roy, as saying in “Dreams.”
Obama’s grandfather…was fiercely devoted to Islam, according to an account in “Dreams.” The grandfather, who died in 1979, was described by his widow when Obama visited Kenya in the late 1980s.
“What your grandfather respected was strength. Discipline,” Obama quoted his grandmother as telling him. “This is also why he rejected the Christian religion, I think. For a brief time, he converted, and even changed his name to Johnson. But he could not understand such ideas as mercy towards your enemies, or that this man Jesus could wash away a man’s sins. To your grandfather, this was foolish sentiment, something to comfort women,” she added. “And so he converted to Islam — he thought its practices conformed more closely to his beliefs.”

Barack Obama: Putting faith out front
How the Illinois senator came to embrace religion in his life.
By Ariel Sabar, The Christian Science Monitor Online, July 16, 2007
On a recent Sunday, the magnetic pastor who led Barack Obama to Christianity was at his usual perch on the dais here, a South Side megachurch where a plaque beneath stained-glass depictions of the African-American struggle reads “Unashamedly Black, Unapologetically Christian.”
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., in a casual short-sleeve shirt, preached about Martha as a “single saint,” urging unmarried women to draw self-esteem from faith rather than men. He took blacks to task for what he said was their silence on domestic violence, homophobia, and the “illegal, untested, insane war in Iraq, started by a C-student draft dodger.”
And in honor of National HIV Testing Day, he alerted his flock to mouth-swab tests being offered in the church building after services. “You can get results in 20 minutes – free and confidential,” he said. Then he led more than a thousand worshipers, and a 200-member choir in traditional African dress, in a hymn to the Lord.
It was at Trinity United Church of Christ here, in the late 1980s, that Senator Obama says he found religion. Raised in a secular household, with ancestral roots running from Islam to Baptist to atheist, Obama had grown up a skeptic. But Mr. Wright’s blend of scripture and social action resonated with Obama, then a young community organizer in black neighborhoods ravaged by steel-mill closings.
And when Wright preached one Sunday about the sustaining power of hope in the face of poverty and despair, Obama says he found himself in tears.
“The questions I had did not magically disappear,” Obama wrote in his recent book, titled “The Audacity of Hope” after Wright’s turn of phrase, of the day four years later when he made a formal commitment of Christian faith. “But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side of Chicago, I felt God’s spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth.”
More than the other Democratic candidates for president, Obama has made faith a centerpiece of his campaign.
He has warned the left against ceding the mantle of religion to the evangelical right. He speaks of the church as an abiding force in American public life, from the Boston Tea Party through the abolitionist and civil rights movements. He suffuses his speeches with biblical allusions – “I am my brother’s keeper” is a favorite phrase. And he has cast his generation of black leaders as modern-day Joshuas, after Moses’ successor, who led the Israelites to the Promised Land.
Many of Obama’s political views are “an outgrowth of his reading of some of the seminal parts of the Bible about doing unto the ‘least of these’ just as we would have done unto Christ,” says Joshua DuBois, the campaign’s director of religious affairs, paraphrasing verses in the book of Matthew. “He takes very seriously the numerous passages in the Bible that talk not only about poverty, but of people of faith taking God’s words and extending them beyond the four walls of the church.”
But as Obama promotes faith as a means of uniting a diverse America around a shared set of values, he has at times found himself in a political minefield. To the left are liberals uneasy with religious intrusions into politics; to the right, conservatives who have questioned his Christianity and denounced his ties to Wright’s Afrocentric church.
Obama’s childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia was a swirl of faiths and cultures. His father, a black Kenyan economist, was raised Muslim but was an atheist by the time Obama was born. His mother, a white Kansan, had Baptist and Methodist roots but viewed organized religion with a gimlet eye, wary of how often it cloaked intolerance.
“Jesus, she felt, was a wonderful example,” Obama’s half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, recalled in a phone interview. “But she felt that a lot of Christians behaved in un-Christian ways.”
After his mother was remarried, to an Indonesian Muslim, and the family moved to Indonesia, Obama went first to a Catholic academy and then a public Muslim school open to students of all beliefs.
But he was largely indifferent toward religion until he moved to Chicago in 1985 for a job organizing impoverished South Side residents in campaigns for better jobs, schools, and housing. As the recent college graduate went from church to church to enlist clergy in his causes, he heard an oft-repeated refrain: What church do you belong to?
“He really came here with a very strong passion about how can we change things, and he understood the churches as being a vehicle for doing that,” recalls the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of the Saint Sabina Church, a Catholic church on the South Side, who has known Obama since his early days in Chicago. But he also “realized that with some churches there would be a credibility issue if he were organizing churches but didn’t have a home church.”
Trinity United Church of Christ occupies a tan brick building on West 95th Street across railroad tracks from a public housing project. Since becoming pastor in 1972, Wright grew its membership from a few dozen to more than 8,500. He wore African dashikis, planted a “Free South Africa” sign on the church lawn, and demanded tolerance of gays and lesbians, a maverick stance for a black church.
The church sprouted more than 70 ministries, from AIDS counseling and African cultural exchange to a “manhood” program providing father figures to children of single mothers. Oprah Winfrey and the singer Mavis Staples have worshiped there, as have people on welfare.
While other black megachurch leaders like Creflo Dollar and T.D. Jakes were preaching prosperity gospel, the idea that God rewards the faithful with financial success, Wright asked worshipers to endorse a “Black Value System.” One of its precepts is a disavowal of “middleclassness,” a selfish pursuit of money and status without giving back to the larger black community.
Wright also preached black liberation theology, an outgrowth of the civil rights era that sees the Bible, particularly the exodus from Egyptian slavery, as a parable of the struggle for black freedom.
However incongruously, Trinity became the largest congregation in The United Church of Christ, a predominantly white denomination known for its liberal politics and steepled churches in small New England towns. The UCC, or Congregational church, as it is also called, was the first mainline Protestant church to ordain an African-American (1785), a woman (1853), and an openly gay man (1972), and the first major Christian denomination to endorse same-sex marriage (2005).
[Of course the first African Christian was ordained almost 2000 years ago]
Wright impressed Obama, and by 1988 the younger man found himself in the pews, listening to parishioners clap and cry out as Wright spoke of “the audacity of hope” in times of suffering, Obama writes in his bestselling 1995 memoir, “Dreams from My Father.” In Wright’s words that day, Obama glimpsed the deeper meaning he had been searching for in his work with the South Side’s poor, who often had little to go on but faith.
“In that single note – hope! – I heard something else,” Obama wrote. “At the foot of that cross, inside the thousands of churches across the city, I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stories of David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the Christians in the lion’s den, Ezekiel’s field of dry bones. Those stories – of survival, and freedom, and hope – became our story, my story.”
Four years later, after returning to Chicago from Harvard Law School, Obama joined Trinity and walked down the aisle in a formal commitment of faith. Wright later married Obama and his wife, Michelle, and blessed the births of their two children.
By his own admission, Obama’s conversion was “a choice and not an epiphany.” It owed as much to spiritual yearning as to a recognition of the power of the black church to change lives and society.
“What moved me was the role all the congregations I worked with played in the life of the people I was working with,” Obama said in an e-mail to the Monitor. “What touched me was how faith bolstered them against heartache and disappointment and kept them going.”
After law school, Obama returned to Chicago to register low-income voters for the 1992 presidential election. He worked as a civil rights lawyer and as a lecturer at University of Chicago Law School before his election to the Illinois state Senate in 1996.
From the moment he took the national stage, at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Obama, then running for US Senate, made no secret of his spiritual bent. “We worship an awesome God in the blue states,” he said in a keynote address credited with launching his stardom.
But for a liberal Democrat and former constitutional law instructor, the plea for a broader public role for religion has at times required some fancy footwork.
He has called for both “a politics of conscience” based on ecumenical religious values and a clear line between church and state. He has both invoked God in his denunciations of the Iraq war and criticized President Bush for using religious terms like “good” and “evil” to justify it.
“The danger of using good versus evil in the context of war is it may lead us to be not as critical as we should be about our own actions,” he said at a candidates’ forum on religion last month, calling the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib and the treatment of suspected terrorists at the Guantánamo Bay prison camp “unjust.”
Obama and his advisers have said that his faith has motivated legislation meant to benefit the poor, the uninsured, and minorities. In the Illinois state Senate, Father Pfleger recalls, Obama sponsored measures to clamp down on high-interest “payday loans” in poor neighborhoods and to require Illinois police agencies to record the race of motorists they stop as part of a state effort to monitor racial profiling. He also pressed for a bill requiring police to videotape interrogations of murder suspects, as a safeguard against coerced confessions.
At a speech last month at the annual Hampton University Ministers’ Conference in Virginia, he offered his most detailed list to date of programs he said should spring from “our faith, the Word, and His will.” They range from a new service corps for disadvantaged youths and a program to have nurses teach low-income mothers good parenting to more jobs programs for ex-convicts and more venture capital for minority-owned businesses.
Elsewhere, he has preached a version of his church’s critique of black “middleclassness.” He told a crowd in Selma, Ala., in March that his generation of blacks should strive for more than just “some of that Oprah money.”
“Materialism alone will not fulfill the possibilities of your existence,” he said. “You have to fill it with the golden rule. You’ve got to fill it with thinking about others.”
Last year, he and Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, sponsored a successful bill to let people in bankruptcy continue to donate money to their places of worship.
Obama’s advisers say his open faith and personal narrative are political assets as churchgoers grow increasingly disillusioned with Mr. Bush. “The ultimate swing voters right now are moderate Catholic voters and moderate evangelical voters,” says Shaun Casey, professor of Christian ethics at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington and an Obama campaign adviser. “There are more opportunities for Democrats with them than there have been in about 20 years.”
In addition to Mr. DuBois, the campaign has faith-outreach workers on staff in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. It holds conference calls every week with religious leaders in the early primary states. And it has staged a half dozen “faith forums” in New Hampshire, where voters, local clergy, and campaign staff trade views on the proper role of faith in public life.
A Time magazine poll released Thursday found that more voters see Obama as a strongly religious person than they do every major presidential hopeful but Mitt Romney, the Republican former governor of Massachusetts whose Mormonism has drawn extensive news coverage.
But whether that public perception translates into votes, even among the 1.2 million members of Obama’s own denomination, has yet to be seen.
At the annual gathering for Iowa clergy of the United Church of Christ, which Obama addressed last month, the finance chair of a church outside Des Moines said he had thought Obama was Muslim.
Another church leader, pastor Al Hohl of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Sioux City, Iowa, said he hadn’t heard such candid talk of faith from a liberal since his days as a seminary student in the 1960s. He found it refreshing, but plans to vote for Bill Richardson, the New Mexico governor and Democratic presidential candidate, whom he views as more politically experienced.
But others there said Obama gave voice to deeply held yet seldom expressed convictions about a progressive role for organized religion. “It’s time we stand up to the conservatives,” said Barbara Brandt, a parish administrator at a UCC church in Reinbeck, Iowa. “We’re as Christian as they are.”
Obama’s mingling of faith and politics has drawn fire from some on both the left and the right.
“A war of Bible-quoting isn’t supposed to be going on during a campaign season,” says Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. “Proof-testing the Bible to see if God is a liberal or a conservative or a uniter or a divider is not relevant.”
Some evangelical leaders have questioned how Obama can square his Christianity with support for abortion rights and same-sex civil unions. And conservatives have pummeled Wright for his Afrocentric beliefs, his equation of Zionism with racism, and his remarks on the 9/11 attacks. (”In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01,” Wright wrote in 2005 in a church-affiliated magazine. “White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns.”)
[Obama: "The White man's greed fuels a world in need!"]
The night before he announced his candidacy for president in February, Obama withdrew an invitation to Wright to give the public invocation, a decision that did not sit well with some other Chicago pastors. Pfleger said Obama told him that he didn’t want criticism of Wright to detract from the big day. “I told him I thought it was the wrong decision,” Pfleger said in an interview.
Jen Psaki, a spokeswoman for the campaign, said “the change was made in order to avoid having statements and beliefs being used out of context and forcing the entire church to defend itself.”
Wright remains Obama’s pastor and friend, she said, but they do not see eye to eye on every issue. Obama, she said, “strongly disagrees with any portrayal of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that advocates divestment from Israel or expresses anything less than strong support for Israel’s security.”
As for the church’s Black Value System, she said, Obama “believes its basic tenets of commitment to God, to community, to self-discipline and self-reliance continue to have applicability not only to the African-American community but to all people.”
Though Obama was an early and fervent critic of the war in Iraq, he has steered clear of his pastor’s sometimes inflammatory rhetoric. At a candidates’ forum on faith last month, Obama framed his opposition in more nuanced terms.
“I always remember Abraham Lincoln when, during the Civil War, he said, ‘We shouldn’t be asking whose side God is on, but whether we’re on His side,’ ” he said. “And I think that’s the question that all of us have to ask ourselves…. Are we advancing the causes of justice and freedom? Are we our brother’s keeper, our sister’s keeper? And that’s how I measure whether what we’re doing is right.”
Wright declined in an e-mail interview to answer questions about some of his contentious remarks. “I have given up trying to respond to conservatives who have done no study of liberation theology, black theology, or African-American history,” he wrote.
Obama’s message of faith and his ties to a controversial pastor have not been without pitfalls, analysts say.
But “the positives outweigh the negatives,” says Professor Dwight Hopkins of the University of Chicago Divinity School, who is a member of Trinity but not affiliated with the Obama campaign. “I think he is one of the biggest threats to the Republican Party and their campaign, because he has seized the religious discursive ground. No Democratic candidate since Jimmy Carter has been able to do that.”

Barack Obama on his Brother’s Race-Betrayal
Michael Sheridan, Shenzhen, China, The Sunday Times, July 27, 2008
Obama painted a disappointed picture of his half-brother in his 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father, in which he celebrated his own return to Kenya and rediscovery of his African inheritance.
At a rather tense lunch, Obama quoted “Mark” – his family name is never given away in the book – as saying Kenya was “just another poor African country” to which he felt little attachment.
Mark added: “there’s not much work for a physicist, is there, in a country where the average person doesn’t have a telephone.”
According to Obama’s account, Mark looked him in the eye and said: “You think that somehow I’m cut off from my roots, that sort of thing. Well, you’re right.”
“At a certain point I made the decision not to think about who my real father was. He was dead to me even when he was still alive. I knew that he was a drunk and showed no concern for his wife and children. That’s enough.”
Barack Obama senior fathered eight children by four different women.
Obama wrote that Mark didn’t want to ask himself a lot of questions about the meaning of racial identity, dismissing the idea with the words: “life’s hard enough without all that excess baggage.”
Asked last week whether he was quoted accurately in the book, Ndesandjo did not respond.
Obama wrote that on parting, “we exchanged addresses and promised to write, with a dishonesty that made my heart ache.”

SH & Dr B,
This is what I put on My B.O.:
http://brianakira.wordpress.com/2008/08/02/obama-unfamiliar-with-truth/
I think it’s quite useful in trying to find out who’s the real Obama, which is why I thought it might be an eye-opener for those of his acolytes at My B.O. who only ever go to the MSM and moonbats sites for their news. I think it was at My B.O. for about 10 hours before it got nuked.
I’d be happy if people would copy it and spread it as widely as possible. I got some emails from “conservatives” who felt it’s too “mean-spirited”. If McCain and Republican congressional candidates lose, that will be the main reason — for being wimps. Of course the blame will be fixed on having gone “negative.” Somebody commented that it was a pack of lies, so I asked for even one example. No response.
Politics is war by other means. It’s not a chummy debating society.
I believe that most liberals (and cynical conservatives – “neo-cons”?) feel that since it’s war, then everything is fair, and all that matters is to win. I don’t. I’m quite happy to satirize and ridicule people — even be mean (e.g., saying that Obama’s Mama wanted to help “the poor brown folks”) — as long as there’s some truth to it.
What bothers me most about Obama is not so much his socialism. I’m not even sure how sincere that is. What bothers me most is that he views truth as some sort of obstacle. It seems like he has some sort of psychological problems relating to his father, his identity etc. (“I had to discover what it means to be a black man in America.”). Whatever the reason, he clearly has no heard for truth unless the truth is convenient for him at that time.
I admire McCain’s attempts to take the high road, but I think he’s mistaken for confusing exposing a pathological liar with slandering somebody.

Note to “Joe the Plumber,”
Did you enjoy having your message deleted?
Censorship SUCKS, doesn’t it?
Think about that for a while as you fatuously suckle on Obama’s teat.
17 October, 2008 at 9:46 am
I knew I’d be deleted but I don’t consider it censorship. The owner of this blog didn’t like my post because I said Obama will be our next President and suggested you were bigots. I had a feeling.
That’s fine. It’s not my blog and I have to abide by the rules of the owner. Just as the owner of BlogTalkRadio can delete shows he feels are bad for his image. I get it and it doesn’t bother me in the least. It’s not censorship to want your blog or website run the way you wish and to choose the types of content you feel best portrays your image. I’m not going to send angry letters to the editor or people who have absolutely nothing to do with the deletion of my comment and I won’t request others do the same. It’s not censorship.
I get it, but do you?
17 October, 2008 at 10:09 am
Joe the Plumber,
No. You aren’t getting it. I don’t care if you think we are bigots. I don’t care if you think Obama will be the next President.
And, NO, you DID NOT VIOLATE ANY of our site guidelines.
No Compromises DID NOT VIOLATE ANY of BTR’s rules, yet her interview with Mr. Berg was shut down and her account deleted.
Here is a personal account of what happened that night from SISTAH, who was there when it went down:
About 39-40 suspicious “guests” streamed in and, as soon as the show started crashing, they beat feet.”
THAT is just wrong!
Obama’s campaign has shown time and time again that they will suppress Free Speech when they feel it will hurt Obama’s chances to be President.
I have numerous links to articles that show this happening over and over and over again.
If you doubt me, I will dig them up for you.
Cheers

BlogTalkRadio is not part of the Obama campaign. If anything they lean way to the Right. Obama’s people aren’t controlling Alan Levy. You’re just kooky. It has nothing to do with Obama or his campaign.
