Indiana: Would-be Victim Shoots and Kills Robber
Another day and another news item you won’t be hearing on CNN. Nope, we wouldn’t the public to know that guns are an invaluable tool in deterring crime:
Man fatally shoots teen robber
WANE.com – Monday, 12 Jan 09
HAMMOND – Hammond police say a man fatally shot a 17-year-old who attempted to rob him outside a bar.
Police Chief Brian Miller says the 38-year-old man and his girlfriend were exiting their sport utility vehicle early Sunday when two men approached the couple and attempted to rob them.
Miller says the man took a gun from the SUV and shot 17-year-old Kenneth Denson of Chicago in the chest as an accomplice fled.
[Gee, Chicago - Obama's previous Libtard experiment gone awry; land of the gun bans---where criminals rule supreme on the food chain and law-abiding citizens can only cower in fear... Who would have thunk it? Obviously, "little Kenny" Denson just naturally assumed that the Chicago gun laws were in effect throughout America. That's the last mistake he'll ever make...]
Denson was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were arrested a short time later after their vehicle crashed.
Police say the man who shot Denson has cooperated with police and has turned over his handgun. He was not immediately identified.
[Note to the Hammond Police Dept. - What is this? Chicago? Clear him of charges and give him his handgun back! Lord knows that the police are already overtaxed and can't always be there when the doo-doo hits the fan; we need as many well-armed, law-abiding citizens as we can get...]
Miller says charges could be filed Monday against the other two suspects.
UPDATE: This just came across the wire:
Police: Statements support self defense claim in fatal shooting
BY TIMES STAFF | Monday, January 12, 2009
HAMMOND | Hammond police believe a man who shot and killed a would-be robber outside of a bar there early Sunday legitimately acted in self defense.
Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said the 38-year-old Gary man was released after providing a statement to police about the incident.
“We do believe that his version of the story is true and credible,” Miller said, adding that the man had a valid license to carry the weapon and purchased it legally.
Statements from witnesses to the attempted robbery and shooting assisted as well, he said.
“We had some outstanding participation by witnesses,” Miller said.
[...]
Miller said the weapon has yet to be recovered but police believe the would-be robbers were armed at the time of the incident.
