COLUMBIA [Missouri] — A Columbia woman shot and wounded a burglar in her home about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Police say three black males, one with dreadlocks, wearing hoodies kicked in the back door of a home in the 3400 block of Winners Circle off of Blue Ridge Rd.
The unidentified woman shot one of the suspects after one of the men pointed a handgun at her as the suspects were leaving the crime scene.
Police notified emergency personnel at local hospitals to be aware of a burglary suspect seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.
Investigators say the victim has a conceal and carry license for a firearm and did not do anything illegal when she shot one of the burglars on her property.
Columbia Police Sgt. Ken Hammond said, “The victim reported to investigators that she felt threatened and the individuals were approaching her with a drawn firearm. She fired a round to stop that action towards her.”
After speaking to the unidentified burglary victim, she said the burglars stole some jewelry and video games.
The victim also saw a silver hatchback vehicle occupied by a black female that might have been used as a getaway car.
