Senate Rejects Carrying Concealed Weapons Across State Lines

UPDATED at the bottom:

“[...] the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Yup, the Senate has proven once again that they could care less about the  Second Amendment!  Vote the bastards out!!!
Note:  I’m waiting for the government websites to update with the vote counts.  When I find out who voted against this, I will publish their names for you all.

Senate rejects pro-gun measure on concealed weapon
By JIM ABRAMS (AP) – via Google News

WASHINGTON — Gun control proponents scored a rare victory as the Senate rejected the carrying of concealed weapons across state lines.

The 58-39 vote Wednesday defeated a measure giving people with concealed weapons permits the right to carry their firearms into other states that have similar gun laws. Sixty votes were needed to approve the provision, an amendment to a defense spending bill.

It is an unusual setback for the gun rights side, which has been able to muster majorities of Republicans and pro-gun Democrats to move its agenda through both the Bush and Obama administrations. Opponents say the concealed weapon proposal would force states with tough gun laws to accept gun-carrying visitors from states with weaker laws.

UPDATE:  Here is the roll call for the Conceal/Carry vote on the Senate floor (I’ve highlighted the two Republican Turncoats in RED).  There were 58 Yes votes and only 39 No votes, however, it failed to reach the required 3/5ths (60 percent) majority to pass.  That’s means, it failed by only 1 vote!!!!!!!!!:

Are they Serious? I travel a lot. I studied and proved that I am a competent responsible gun owner. Now they want to tell me that I cannot protect myself in my travels?????

    I am spitting nails.

    • doctorbulldog Says:

Yeah, it’s like the federal government telling you that you can’t drive across state lines because your driver’s license is for use in one state only!

      Cheers

  2. CavMom Says:

*sigh* I may never leave Texas again.

Sorry Doc… The Government just placed the proverbial straw on this camel’s back. I can’t take much more of their nonsense. Going to step away and regroup.

  3. Bob Says:

    I’m a little confused on this;
Does it mean that the feds are outlawing concealed carry across state lines in disregard of the individual states’ own reciprocity agreements?

    • From what I can gather, the answer would be “no.” The individual Conceal/Carry agreements between States still stands.

The bill would have made it legal between all States.

      Cheers

    G.R.I.P.

    Get

    Rid of

    Incumbent

    Politicians

  5. Weaver Says:

I started to read the list and after just a couple names realized I already knew who voted for what. Basically as Ronin points out, everyone needs to use this list as a complete list of who must leave office. ALL of the lousy worthless splineless scumsucking misserable swine must be voted out. Oh, and keep a copy of this list for your wall to remember who these people are that think they know what’s right for you more than you do.

Of course that turncoat piece of crap Specter voted nay I’m so ashamed to say he’s from my state. This is a great state for guns — no open cary prohibition & concealed is simple to get — had he gone with what his constituents wanted this would have passed. Heel even his fellow Pa. Democrat Casey was for it.

  7. oaks777 Says:

I finally got my permit. My husband’s has yet to come. It is state’s rights. It would be a good thing for all states to get a standard amongst themselves for the class, range, test, fingerprinting, and background check.
I know my RN license is accepted through a reciprocity agreement. My driver’s license is accepted in any state. This gun permit should be received in the same manner.

  8. Bob Says:

I caught feinstein talking about all the restrictions CA has for acquiring CHL (as if most states don’t require the same background check, training etc, with the exception of local she or chief of police having the power to veto it. Of course, she carries, and I’m sure doesn’t have to jump through the same hoops) and lautenberg on cspan this AM talking about how this bill “usurps states rights”
Can you believe the unmitigated gall and hypocrisy of these creatures?

  9. Midnight Rider Says:

I don’t see this as a states rights issue. This is a Second Amendment issue. It applies to all 50 states (you all know that already). By that reckoning the states have no right to restrict your carry of firearms by requiring licenses etc. But they do it anyway. This would have been more of a step toward reaffirming the intent of the Second Amendment.

  10. oaks777 Says:

the dems are being fake about states rights in efforts to do whatever they can to stop gun rights. even though i discussed it earlier about reciprocity as with my nursing license..there still is the 2nd amendment which provides our right to bear arms–period.

  11. whitefeather Says:

Well, we elected them, sounds like time we get rid of some. I travel 9 month out of the year, and i do carry my guns. this don’t change anything, and as far as hiding my guns, hell no, leave them in the open, or locked in case it is your right, and better to be in a court fighting your rights than being dead side the road. I was a coast to coast trucker for 37 years, and i can tell you that the guy that comes to rob you will have his gun. I had a reminder every time i got in my fathers truck with the bullet hole in the floor. Ok guys time to get the crap out of office, and that includes the head man, the flock follows the leader, so you know what is next.

  12. dad306 Says:

    Ok;
So pass all the laws you want and I will still carry in other states that I visit and protect my family. Do you think the criminals care!
