Al-Qaeda Linked Nuclear Engineer Arrested

Move along, nothing to see here, folks:

Nuclear engineer from Cern lab arrested for al-Qaeda links

Adam Sage – Times Online

French agents have arrested a researcher from Europe’s top atomic lab on suspicion of links to al-Qaeda, fuelling fears that terrorists could be targeting the nuclear industry.

The 32-year-old man, who was detained along with his brother, works for the prestigious European Organisation for Nuclear Research (Cern) in Geneva, Switzerland, according to French police sources.

”The inquiry will doubtless say what were the objectives in France or elsewhere and indicate perhaps that we have avoided the worst possible scenario,” said Brice Hortefeux, the French Interior Minister.

An intelligence source told Le Figaro that ”this is a very high level” case.

The suspect is believed to have been in contact with members of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), an Algerian-based terrorist organisation which joined Osama bin Laden’s network in 2007.

A source said French intelligence officers had intercepted messages in which the man had suggested targets in France.

”He had expressed a wish or a desire to commit terrorist actions, but had not materially prepared them,” said the source.

The suspect had been under surveillance for about 18 months after he was identified during an investigation into a French network which sent Islamic radicals to Afghanistan.

Judge Christophe Teissier, an investigating magistrate specialising in the fight against terrorism, opened a formal inquiry last month into his activities.

The man was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a criminal association linked to a terrorist undertaking by the Central Directorate of Interior Intelligence (DCRI) at his home in Vienne, eastern France.

His 25-year-old brother was also arrested as police seized two computers, three hard discs and two USB keys at their home.

Both men were taken for questioning at the DCRI headquarters in Levallois-Perret outside Paris.

The arrests fuelled concern in France that al-Qaeda’s north African wing could launch a campaign on the French side of Mediterranean.

Mr Hortefeux was quick to recall that AQIM had threatened French interests.

”We are in a situation of permanent vigilance and we follow the declarations of the leaders of certain organisations day by day,” he said. ”Our vigilance is never lowered. The risk is permanent.”

Cern said the suspect had “never been in contact with any elements which could be used for terrorist purposes.”

He was a physicist who worked on data analysis “in the context of a contract with another institute” and “none of his research had a potential military application”, it said in a statement.

Previously known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, AQIM waged a war with the Algerian authorities in a bid to install an Islamic state at the cost of tens of thousands of lives in the 1990s.

But since joining al-Qaeda it has spread its activities to neighbouring countries such as Mali, Niger and Mauritania.

In June it claimed responsibility for the killing of Christopher Leggett, an American humanitarian worker, in Mauritania.

A moon god worshiper with such a good job,Yet; a great desire to murder in the name of allah whom Mohammed loved.

It appears the hate is not from being poor. I wonder want causes such desire for murder.

    Sarc/off

  2. Solkhar Says:

    Leatherneck,

The guy supports terrorism, which is politically inspired, under the name of religion. You probably know I am a Muslim, so I obviously have no appreciation for “moon god” rubbish.

There are enough real professionals that has studies the causes of terrorism and books, doctorates and many a thesis has been and will continue to be written on it, thus making for a basic explanation is difficult enough on a thread.

But if there is going to be an attempt, note this. The terrorism, extreme radicalism has really only being as it is during the last 30 years. The Iranian Revolution created the sickening mix of ultra-conservatism and radical/revolutionary militancy. From that day forward, every extremist cleric searched for a political-hungry militant group to back it up and they both sacrificed their principles and dignity to help each other. Iran is now a not a real theocracy but a dictatorship run by the political militants – the Revolutionary Guard and the Ayatollahs that lead it are sell-outs to them.

Wahhabism and Salafism – that is followed by Osama Bin Laden is a radical ultra-conservative group that wishes the clocks to turn back to the 7th century – but Bin Laden is a militant sell-out, using technologies that are shunned by real Wahhabists, deals with semi-pagan Talaban etc. If a proud Taliban tribalist lived in Saudi and said and followed as he does at home, he would be in jail within 24hrs.

Al Qaeda is a political group that wishes for most Wahhabist principles but under Al Qaeda’s own political agenda.

The problem with terrorist groups is that they have captured a market and live off it. They live off the fact that there is illiteracy and poverty and that the only source of education and often actually the sole information disseminator is the Mosque and Maddrassa attached it. They wish to keep it that way, obviously.

There is an antire generation that has grown up with the assumption that what they were told, particularly with the politics intertwined, is God-given facts.

Add to that the other factors that we do not like to discuss but are simple truths. The poverty, illiteracy and all the factors that make up what is a third-world nation produces the “us & them” scenario with all its historic implications and condemnations. You have to live in the deveoloping world and talk to people to understand the feelings that the current generation have and reminded by the older generations of the times the west ruled the country.

Someone might be a doctor in the UK, a nuclear scientist in France, but he has an origin, parents, a historical context and something brought him to turn him towards radicalism. Remembering that Muslims in general are religious by nature, the equivelant person with “issues” in the west may not claim it to God, but instead just be another violent psychopath statistic.

I am not trying to deminish the danger of terrorism, I am involved in the tracking of terrorism financing here in North Africa and having supported the seizure of over 4.2 million dollars that would have ended up in the hands of Hezbollah is in reality only “chicken-feed” and that scares me. Terrorism’s groups are organised, committed with zealous fanaticism but still routed in politics and poverty, the two P’s that should not be forgotten. What it is not, is a reflection of the reality and the faith of the vast majority of the average Muslim that now is officially 1.5 billion people.

    Solkhar,

Do you really think I give a rat’s arse how you feel? You’re the enemy. I will turn the other cheek no more.

Muslims pray to a false god that tells them to murder for him. I worship a G-d who loved mankind so much that he died for human sin, rose from the grave, and holds the deed to this Earth. It can not be the same G-d.

Stop your crying, and get to fighting, or you’re an Apostate. Mohammed commands it. You do follow Mohammed don’t you? The perfect human who murdered, and raped.

    • Mullah Lodabullah Says:

“I worship a G-d who loved mankind so much that he died for human sin, rose from the grave, and holds the deed to this Earth. It can not be the same G-d”

And nor is it the same God. “Allah” has no Son, and claims through his false prophet that Jesus Christ,
the Son of God, was not crucified.

    • Leatherneck Says:

      Roger that.

      Over

  4. Leatherneck Says:

Mohammed grew up in a house who worshiped allah the moon god. One of many humdred gods at the time. All Mohammed did when he got older, is tell everyone allah was the only god.

It was no Angel that talked to Mohammed, it was a fallen Angel called Lucifer/Satan. That is the religion you are in.

The truth is hate speech in the New Age. The New Age believers love Islam because they know who allah is.

  5. Just a note to everyone: Please play nice and keep it civil—No biting, no kicking, and no hitting below the belt.

Solkhar has been respectful and polite; he should be treated as such.

    Thank you.

  7. Solkhar Says:

    Thanks Doc,

I appreciate this blog because it is able to discuss and debate without either agenda nor spite and I certainly would not continue here if it failed to do that.

Certainly people are allowed to believe what they wish and are obliged to keep it civil, I would not expect anything less than that.

As for the above comments, simply put, I assume that people believe gossip and agendas instead of actually learning.

“Allah” is the arabic word for “God”, simple. When every Muslim makes in each and every one of his or her prayers the line known as “The Shahada” (There is no God but Allah or in arabic La Illaha Illalalah..). It does not take much of a linguist to see that it is saying “there is no God but God…” (ie follow the phonetics). It is just that because the Qur’an was receieved in Arabic, Muslims insist in saying “Allah”.

You will note that I have avoided making religous statements because I do not see either the point nor the relevance. I will continue to do so unless it is relevant and required in the thread.

On the other hand, you will find that the poster above, from experience in other blogs, is a self-admitted fundamentalist/evangalist who will now saturate this blog with anti-Islamic rhetoric as some form of vengance and unacceptance that the world consideres Islam to be one of the three Abrahamic faiths. What he will certainly do, is prostheletize.

  8. Solkhar Says:

    eratum:

“On the other hand, you will find that the poster above, from ” should saye the poster “below”. I thought my post would go after the “Mullah….” post.

    • Leatherneck Says:

      Mullah write the truth.

Archeology at the Doctoral level proves allah is a moon god. One of hundreds worshiped at the Kabba before Mohammed told everyone allah was the only god.

allah akbar. allah is the greatest. allah is the greatest of all other pagan gods.

The truth hurts I know, but it is better you learn it before you pass on.

      • Solkhar Says:

Truth? As I said, your allowed to believe what you want, bring it to a public forum/blog and you will be told when others think otherwise.

In this case the majority of the planet, 1.56 billion Muslims, most Christians and Jews, academics all disagree with you.

I suppose you do not speak Arabic. I do, I have my degree in Arabic Letters from Al Qaraouin University.

But do not relly on my skills. Here is some examples.

        A)
        Al·lah (āl’ə, ä’lə)
        n. God, especially in Islam.

[Arabic Allāh : al-, the + ‘ilāh, god; see l in Semitic roots.]

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition
Copyright © 2009 by Houghton Mifflin Company.

        B) If you like, from the Urban Dictionary:
        Allah
The classic Arabic word for God.

Also, in the original Christian Bibles, God is referred to as Allah. In old Hebrew, the word ‘Elohim’ refers to God (holding similarity to the Arabic word ‘Allahum’ meaning ‘God is’.

C), the classic Answers.com (taken from Britannica)
Standard Arabic word for God, used by Arab Christians as well as by Muslims. According to the Qur’an, Allah is the creator and judge of humankind, omnipotent, compassionate, and merciful. The Muslim profession of faith affirms that there is no deity but God and emphasizes that he is inherently one: “nothing is like unto him.” Everything that happens occurs by his commandment; submission to God is the basis of Islam. The Qur’an and the Hadith contain the 99 “most beautiful names” of God, including the One and Only, the Living One, the Real Truth, the Hearer, the Seer, the Benefactor, and the Constant Forgiver.

Home > Library > Religion & Spirituality > ReligionAlthough the Qur’an of Islam lists ninety-nine names for God, it says most emphatically that la ilah illa’ Allah-“there is no God but Allah.” Allah is not so much a name as a title. The word means “the God,” and it is the name revealed to the prophet Muhammad of the god worshiped by other “people of the book”-that is, Christians and Jews-although they use other names.

Websters and a multitude of more simply repeats the same that we all know.

But, to your defence, it is argued by some that amongst all the pagan idols, there was one that was possibly confused as being the hebrew God and the name followed it along, either way, idol worship is unacceptable in both Judaism and Islam and thus all were turffed out.

Perhaps the blog that you got it from was written from someone who got overly excited and totally ocnfused.

A last point, “Allah u akbar” means “God is great” and you will note from above the fact that Arab Christians use the word Allah, Christians in Malaysia are now using it and Bahai’s do as well.

        Thank you for your time.

  9. Leatherneck Says:

Like I wrote, Archeology proves allah is a pagan moon god.

Of course, if you wish to change history to fit your beliefs that is your choice.

  10. Solkhar Says:

Dream on leatherneck, your pinning your hopes based on disproven and rejected theories based on archeological findings by people such as the late Professor Carleton S. Coon, whom was recognised for his biology books and rejected on his thoughts on Race Origin.

His views and logic is noted below:

According to numerous inscriptions, while the name of the Moon-god was Sin, his title was al-ilah, i.e. “the deity,” meaning that he was the chief or high god among the gods. As Coon pointed out, “The god Il or Ilah was originally a phase of the Moon God.” The Moon-god was called al-ilah, i.e. the god, which was shortened to Allah in pre-Islamic times. The pagan Arabs even used Allah in the names they gave to their children. For example, both Muhammad’s father and uncle had Allah as part of their names. The fact that they were given such names by their pagan parents proves that Allah was the title for the Moon-god even in Muhammad’s day.
    …..

Carleton S. Coon should have known better since he did have a reasonable Arabic language skill.

Of course “ilah” and “allah” means God so when we talk about pagan gods, the word ilah will come up. Just like saying the God Zues does not mean the Abrahamic God that Christians, Jews and Muslims believe in.

Badically the world moved on from wild theories based on the uncovering of history by archeologists. Eric van Duniken did that as well.

I stand by my above post that the linguists and academics who have studied it have noted that the word is linked back to aramaic and simply means God.

I strongly suggest leatherneck that your anti-Islam bais not be used to try and score “points” on this very good blog that the Doc has built.

  11. Solkhar Says:

Just a final comment from me about Moon Gods (I will not after this respond anymore to the topic) that the main items and arguments over the Moon God topic is in anti-Islam websites and by certain Christian groups.

    http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/moongod.htm being a good example.

I have no problem with Christians nor Christianity. In Islam we beleive that “all good Jews and Christians” will stand shoulder to shoulder with Muslims at the gates of heaven. But I do have a loathing against those that attack a faith and in the same breath “sell there own” as a replacement especially when the attacks are based on ……BS.

The Moon God conspiracy theory, which I put in the same category as crop circles and UFOs was brought out by Danish scholar Ditlef Nielsen. Though discredited, it is simply continued, used and abused by those with an agenda. Those with such agendas and the main push is in fact by Robert Morey, a Pastor of frankly speaking the most pathetic type. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Morey).

There are more than enough items, studies that have discredit the subject altogether, one – by some Muslim scholars goes into some details, can be found on http://www.islamic-awareness.org/Quran/Sources/Allah/moongod.html.

    …..

As stated, this is my last comment on the subject, I am not interested in diggs and any further such attempts will simply be ignored.

Doc, please excuse my taking up your time on this.

  12. Leatherneck Says:

Muslim extremists can not be worshiping the same god as peaceful people. It must be a false god, and it should not bother you if I call it a moon god.

If moderate Muslims are worshiping the same G-d as the Jews, then we should be able to achieve peace.
