Federal Government Saved and/or Created Jobs in Nonexistent Congressional Districts in Missouri

I was made aware of this via an email from a personal friend of mine.  I checked, and sure enough, it’s true:

The above image is from a screen grab of the information provided at Recovery.gov (the government website that is suppose to track the Stinkulus money) for the state of Missouri.

http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/TextView.aspx?data=stateSummaryAllCD&statecode=MO

What’s wrong with that picture?  It shows upwards of 31 Congressional Districts in Missouri.  The problem is, Missouri actually has only 9 Congressional Districts!!!

Here’s the rundown of past and present districts in Missouri:

List of Districts in Missouri:

* Missouri’s 1st congressional district
* Missouri’s 2nd congressional district
* Missouri’s 3rd congressional district
* Missouri’s 4th congressional district
* Missouri’s 5th congressional district
* Missouri’s 6th congressional district
* Missouri’s 7th congressional district
* Missouri’s 8th congressional district
* Missouri’s 9th congressional district
* Missouri’s 10th congressional district, obsolete since 1980 census
* Missouri’s 11th congressional district, obsolete since 1960 census
* Missouri’s 12th congressional district, obsolete since 1950 census
* Missouri’s 13th congressional district, obsolete since 1950 census
* Missouri’s 14th congressional district, obsolete since 1930 census
* Missouri’s 15th congressional district, obsolete since 1930 census
* Missouri’s 16th congressional district, obsolete since 1930 census
* Missouri’s At-large congressional seat, obsolete since 1935-01-03
* Missouri Territory’s At-large congressional seat, obsolete since statehood in 1821

Recovery.gov is showing almost $1 million in Stinkulus money that was sent to the nonexistent 00, 10th, 14th, 16th, 29th, and 31st congressional districts!

So, where the hell did all that money really go?  Am I missing something here?

It might be a good idea for everyone to go over to Recovery.gov and check your own state for unusual districts.  Let us know what you find.

Note:  I just did a quick search on Arizona (I know off the top of my head that they only have 8 districts) and I discovered more inconsistencies:

(Just replace the “AZ” at the end of that link with your state’s abbreviation to skip through all that “interactive map” BS —it’s just a confusing front-end application that’s been put there to keep you distracted, anyway).

    16:53 CST – looks like they’ve scrubbed it.

    • Thanks for the heads-up. Yup, they’ve shoved it all into an “Unassigned Congressional District.”

      Gee, I guess they figure that that little stunt will absolve them of any blame…
