Petraeus Confirmed by Senate, 99-0

I’m sure the dead hypocrite, Robert”Keagle” Byrd, would have voted in the affirmative, too.  Not that I’m upset over Petraeus’s new assignment to Afghanistan—I think if anyone can do the job, it’s Petraeus—it’s just that I prefer my Lefturd Senators be consistent in their actions so that the American public can get a good bead on them come election time:

Petraeus Confirmed By Senate as Commander in Afghanistan, 99-0

Smell that? Smells like redemption:

Gen. David H. Petraeus was confirmed by the U.S. Senate Wednesday as the new Afghan war commander, replacing ousted Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, who was dismissed by President Obama after publication of a magazine article in which McChrystal and his aides were quoted making insubordinate remarks.

The Senate vote followed a hearing Tuesday in which members of the Senate Armed Services Committee praised Petraeus’s leadership of the war in Iraq and lauded him as the nation’s premier warrior-diplomat.

Of course, that’s just political redemption, which is rather unimportant stuff when compared with the hard work ahead of the general. Nonetheless, in Washington, it’s good to see a good man lauded with good reason.

Interesting tidbit, if only because of the timing: The late Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia was one of only two senators to vote against Petraeus’ appointment to CENTCOM in 2008, joining Tom Harkin.

The good General has a very difficult task ahead of him the administration is loaded with back stabbers and hypocrites. I only pray that our losses are reduced and those damned ‘rules of engagement’ are modified to give the troops a better chance of survival.

I agree Big Frank. Every loss of a warrior is a great loss to me. My concern has always been with the first rule of War – KNOW YOUR ENEMY. It’s not al queda, the taliban, or any of a thousand other groups. It’s Islam. Because our leaders, INCLUDING PETRAEUS, will not recognize that, they are sacrificing our men with this foolish statebuilding in Afghanistan. I know Petraeus has to tow the President’s position, but it is criminal. Does Petraeus even consider Islam as the enemy? NO he does not. Why should we give billions in aid to Afghani Muslims who take and steal the aid and spit at us behind our backs and sometimes to our faces. They laugh at us kafir idiots and we deserve it.

100% correct1 The whole Afghan scene is like a gangster movie, I would assume the amount of skimming of goods, cash, and equipment is in the 70%+ range. The Swiss, Cayman, and other banks are more than likely bursting with illicit cash. Let’s not leave out our esteemed friends in the good old ‘military industrial complex’ the real winners in any war.

Update. Sources have come up with a figure of 4.2 billion dollars having left Kabul Airport since 2007. Most of it is assumed to be opium or aid money that has been siphoned off. that is according to the Afghan ministry of finance.

Now everyone knows where the enemy gets the money for ammo. If we killed every afghan the dead ones would still steal us blind.
