Predictably, Lefturd Commie Rag, The NY Times, Downplays Russian Spies

It’s a pattern with the NY Slimes; minimize the actual threat posed by Islamic terrorists or any “fellow travelers.”

Sure enough, the NY Slimes has already kicked into high gear trying to minimize the impact of 11 Russian moles caught rooting around on American soil:

Spying Suspects Seemed Short on Secrets

NY Times

WASHINGTON — The suspected Russian spy ring rolled up by the F.B.I. this week had everything it needed for world-class espionage: excellent training, cutting-edge gadgetry, deep knowledge of American culture and meticulously constructed cover stories.

The only things missing in more than a decade of operation were actual secrets to send home to Moscow.

The assignments, described in secret instructions intercepted by the F.B.I., were to collect routine political gossip and policy talk that might have been more efficiently gathered by surfing the Web. And none of the 11 people accused in the case face charges of espionage, because in all those years they were never caught sending classified information back to Moscow, American officials said.

“What in the world do they think they were going to get out of this, in this day and age?” said Richard F. Stolz, a former head of C.I.A. spy operations and onetime Moscow station chief. “The effort is out of proportion to the alleged benefits. I just don’t understand what they expected.”

[...]

Obviously, Dick Stolz isn’t being completely honest.  These 11 moles are just a few of the thousands of moles Moscow has planted here in America and around the world.

Like a painting, every little brushstroke of information collected by a mole is placed on a canvas, as it were.

Individually, these brushstrokes appear random and inconsequential to the untrained eye.  However, when aggregated along with other brushstrokes contributed by even more spies and moles, the canvas soon jumps to life; revealing a masterpiece full of rich details and panoramic scenery.

That’s how it works in the real world of spies and moles.  It’s rarely as glamorous as it is made out to be by authors like Ian Fleming and Tom Clancy.  And, it is certainly nowhere near as adventuresome as portrayed in the movies.

All that being said, let’s go ahead and play the New York Slimes game and pretend that these 11 moles were gathering nothing but inconsequential data.  That still leaves us with some VERY serious questions; namely, why are our, “going to hit the reset the button and start fresh,” friends still intent on spying on us after the fall of the Soviet Union? And, how many more moles are there in America spying for the Russkies?

Nope, no matter how you slice it, America is infested with Russian moles.  Why?  Because the Cold War never ended.

It is often said that the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.  Well, it can also be said that the greatest trick the Russians ever pulled was convincing Americans that Communism no longer exists…

I’m wondering if they were posted here at the very end of the Soviet era, and never went back to Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. Considering the chaos and low standard of living in Russia at that time, it’s understandable that they might decide to stay here.

They couldn’t come clean without being deported or worse. OTOH, if they kept quiet and, in effect, pretended to continue being spies, even if they never collected any real secrets, they could continue to draw a small stipend from Russia along with whatever they earned on their own in the US.

That said, our military/industrial security has been too lax, ever since the Clinton Administration. It’s our job to keep secrets from getting out.

Russia is still the same old Russia with a new look and wardrobe. The communist era kept many of the Czarist practices, the Gulags and secret Police. The new Russian Federation has changed the names of some of their ‘alpahbet’ agencies, the NKVD became the KGB and is now the FSB’. Let us not forget that Mr. Putin’s previous job was Mr. KGB, don’t let that cool demeanor and slickness fool you he is a very calculating and cunning individual. As far as the NYT goes it is and always was a ‘pink’ rag and apologist for all regimes all the way back to “Uncle Joe Stalin”. Russia with it’s massive oil wealth will only ‘capitalize’ on any chaos or disruption in the world oil market. Russia is sitting back and pushing the buttons that start one political crisis after another, and in typical Russian fashion will deny everything, and toss the blame on ‘Western Imperialism’.
