Obama to Gut Military Yet Again. Will Axe Decades-Long Strategy of Maintaining Troop Levels to Fight More Than One War at Once
Hey, I’ve got a budget cutting idea for Obama so he can keep all of his “social justice” programs going full blast: Get rid of the Secret Service!
That way, Obama will feel the same nakedness that the American People are feeling right about now:
Obama plans to cut tens of thousands of ground troops
(Reuters) – The Obama administration will unveil a “more realistic” vision for the military on Thursday, with plans to cut tens of thousands of ground troops and invest more in air and sea power at a time of fiscal restraint, officials familiar with the plans said on Wednesday.
The strategic review of U.S. security interests will also emphasize an American presence in Asia, with less attention overall to Europe, Africa and Latin America alongside slower growth in the Pentagon’s budget, the officials said.
Though specific budget cut and troop reduction figures are not set to be announced on Thursday, officials confirmed to Reuters they would amount to a 10-15 percent decline in Army and Marine Corps numbers over the next decade, translating to tens of thousands of troops.
The most profound shift in the strategic review is an acceptance that the United States, even with the world’s largest military budget, cannot afford to maintain the ground troops to fight more than one major war at once. That is a move away from the “win-win” strategy that has dominated Pentagon funding decisions for decades.
The move to a “win-spoil” plan, allowing U.S. forces to fight one campaign and stop or block another conflict, includes a recognition that the White House would need to ramp up public support for further engagement and draw more heavily on reserve and national guard troops when required.
“As Libya showed, you don’t necessarily have to have boots on the ground all the time,” an official said, explaining the White House view.
“We are refining our strategy to something that is more realistic,” the official added.

UPDATE: Obama: It’s all Bush’s fault I have to gut the military, or something like that:

The Military has been shrinking since ‘Big Brother Bill’ was in office. That’s how he balanced the budget. To call on reserves and National Guard as often as was done recently looks to me as if we need more divisions not fewer.

We have all to fear from “the enemy within”. What better way to destroy this great nation then to proclaim all is well and that the present administration is truly working for the people. With his lackeys and sycophants in the MSM, academia and his cabinet (i.e. cabal) our ‘Dear Leader” is forging ahead with his plans to radically ‘change’ the USA to a Socialist state. .

DaOne is following an agenda. You don’t get a billion bucks to run for POTUS, and not follow the plan.
Americans bought a record number of weapons this past Christmas. The past two years have been record sales in weapons, CHL, and ammo. I am glad to be an American clinging to their weapon, and Bible.

I’m not sure where I stand on this. To a certain degree I see the military as the primary enforcement arm of US foreign policy. Policy that I feel is not only wrongheaded but doomed to fail with catastrophic consequences for every one of us. I see the world careening towards global conflict but unlike WWI that was fought in Europe or WWII that was expanded beyond Europe to many other parts of the world. WWIII will be truly global with all continents resembling WWII Europe. In America, the war at home will look very different than it did during WWII. This is primarily the result of a disastrous domestic policy of cultural ring around the rosy. The table has been set and there is little we can do about it at this point except ride the Tiger whatever which way it may go.

At this point, I think we are riding a paper tiger.

I think there are a lot of paper tigers out there right now.
And some of them are in places where at this time no one would really suspect. In the future you can run but you cannot hide. Less of course you have a space shuttle on hand, and even then, maybe not.
I think I would describe us as more of a confused tiger than a paper tiger at this point.
