Mayor Bloomberg’s Food Nazis Eye Banning Large Tubs of Movie-Theater Popcorn
It’s not the popcorn that is the problem, stupid. It’s all that simulated butter and salt.
However, be that as it may, it is not for the government to control what you or I can eat.
Not that I would, but if I want to destroy my popcorn with large globs of simulated butter oil and a bucket of sodium chloride, I should be free to do just that!
Those of you who fatuously voted for smoking bans; shame on you for laying the groundwork for all these food Nazis:
City health weasels go ‘pop’
By SALLY GOLDENBERG – NYPost
Why stop at soda?
Mayor Bloomberg’s proposed ban on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces could also include massive buckets of buttery movie-theater popcorn, as far as members of his Board of Health are concerned.
“The popcorn isn’t a whole lot better than the soda,” said Bruce Vladeck, a senior adviser at Nexera Consulting and one of the mayor’s appointees to the 11-member board.
The board yesterday agreed to put Bloomberg’s big-soda ban up for a public hearing July 24, but also talked about the merits of limiting other high-calorie treats.
A large tub of movie-theater popcorn has up to 1,650 calories.
[...]
Only if you load it up with all that fake butter oil. Otherwise, you can eat almost all the popcorn you can stomach and not gain any weight.
In fact, many diet plans actually suggest you eat air-popped popcorn to allay those nasty cravings for snack foods. However, since when have Progressive Commies let actual facts get in the way of their power grabs?
The board will vote on the soda rules in September.

Most of us are getting quite sick of these pompous, nanny state blowhards, who in their liberal minds, feel that only ‘they’ know what is good and proper for us.

Buying two 16 0z drinks instead of one 32 oz drink increases your carbon footprint, there is more trash to dispose of, more energy consumed by making two cups two lids and two straws. Keep in mind that NYC exports their garbage to other locations, they pass it off on the rest of us. Increasingly I view prog society as a sort of Logan’s Run type of vision, only retarded, and excepting of course that it isn’t the 23rd century.

I live in NJ one of the many places that NYC ‘exports’ it’s trash to. Many of our incinerator/generators are fueled by garbage from ‘The Big Apple’., more goes to PA by 18 wheeler and other states by rail. NYC is years behind on solving many urban problems due to the maze of ,boards, commissions, panels, and other bloated government agencies. They as a city would do better attacking the real challenges facing a large city instead of policing personal behavior, and limiting freedom.

It gets used as fuel? I can’t believe it! Someone is actually doing something right?

Yes, they built one in each northern NJ counties, it’s a European design, and meets all clean air standards. The sad part if they wanted to build them in NYC the application and approval process would be stalled in a nightmare and quagmire of hearings by ‘local community boards, and the NIMBY crowd. It takes decades to even approve bus shelters or small structures. Even in this slow economy the cities directly across from NYC in NJ are doing well many large firms are moving to our ‘gold coast on the Hudson’ driven out by sky high costs and a bureaucratic stone wall that hampers the ability to function.

I hear the epa is suing NJ for not buying in to the hocus pocus of the man made climate machine.

this fascist is turning us into a country that is NOT free…Someone needs to blow cigarette smoke in his ugly mug, force him to smoke a carton of cigs, eat fatty ribs with a box of salt on it, drink a 100 oz soda, live in a homeless shelter because he fines companies who donate food to homeless because he’d rather they starve than eat some salt, and permanently be locked up in a mosque for advocating for the mosque at Ground Zero while telling Americans what to eat and smoke.
