SANTA ANA, Calif. — An Orange County Muslim woman who was forced to remove her head scarf by jailers has settled a civil rights lawsuit.
City News Service says the settlement was announced Wednesday.
Souhair Khatib of Anaheim and her husband pleaded guilty in 2006 to a misdemeanor welfare fraud violation and were given community service.
When Khatib went to ask for an extension to complete the service, a judge ordered her jailed. She claimed jailers in a courthouse holding cell forced her to remove the religious scarf.
She sued in 2007 for religious discrimination.
The ACLU of Southern California says under the settlement, county officials will no longer require Muslim women in custody to remove their headscarves.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department says it’s given its officers new training about the scarves.

Islamic group praises Royal Oak gun shop for ending sale of targets in Muslim attire Detroit Free Press
A local chapter of a national Islamic civil liberties group is praising the decision of a Royal Oak gun shop to discontinue selling targets of a skeleton wearing traditional Muslim attire.
The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) welcomed the decision by Target Sports.
CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid met Wednesday with the owner of Target Sports to voice concern that a gun range target that depicts a skeleton with a long beard dressed in a turban and robe may provoke gun owners to view local Muslims who wear such garb as enemies.
Uh, yeah. Just the other day, I saw a skeleton walking down the street in a turban and carrying an AK-47; acting all suspicious, and stuff. Happens all the time around here. /sarcasm
The owner agreed.
Walid said he had received a complaint about the targets Wednesday morning, and walked into the gun store and bought two of the targets before introducing himself and expressing his concerns.
“He gave us a verbal promise to stop selling the targets,” Walid said. “It was an extremely non-hostile meeting.”
The targets, manufactured by Thompson Targets in Canton, Ohio, are shipped throughout the country, and Walid was checking with other gun shops in metro Detroit to see whether they are carrying them.
“Our concern isn’t primarily being offended,” he said. “It’s a safety issue. In metro Detroit, there are law-abiding, peaceful Muslims walking the streets of Hamtramck and Detroit who are dressed like this in the target. It is problematic. There seems to be a dehumanization of Muslims.”

Well, the Qatar Foundation International (QFI) is one of the groups financing that little endeavor. In fact QFI even gloats about it all over the main page of their website: as this snapshot from earlier today shows:

TUSD accepts grant from group with ties to Muslim Brotherhood (updated) By ADI News Services
On May 5, the Qatar Foundation International (QFI), a group associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, announced the awardees of QFI’s Curriculum Grants, which include Tucson Unified School District, according to Tucson radio show host Garret Lewis on KNST AM 790/97.1 FM. QFI’s Curriculum Grants are awarded to schools to develop “innovative curricula and teaching materials to be used in any Arabic language classroom.”
The award will be used in TUSD’s Safford Magnet School. According to the district, “the purpose of this project is for the Arabic teachers with the help of an International Baccalaureate (IB) coordinator to develop, teach, and evaluate four IB Arabic units.”
The district’s grant was brought to the attention of Lewis by a concerned Tucsonan, Pat Sexton. “It is unacceptable to a majority of Tucson citizens that Safford K-8 Magnet School, whose school children are predominantly Hispanic, would agree to receive any funding from a group such as QFI,” said Sexton. “This is an Arabic/Islamist group that seeks to promote Sharia culture and has undeniable ties to two terrorist organizations whose mission is to destroy America, Western ideology and anyone who does not agree with their extremisms.”
QFI is a nonprofit group financed by the government of Qatar. The Washington D.C. based organization is the U.S. branch of the Qatar Foundation, which was founded in 1995 by Qatar’s ruling emir, Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, according to various news reports. Thani is also the founder of Al Jazeera.
The Qatar foundation launched the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics in January. The Center’s director Tariq Ramadan. Ramadan is the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, who was banned from the U.S. until 2010 when the Obama administration issued him a visa to give a lecture at a New York school, according to various news reports cited by Lewis.
The Qatar Foundation has also named several institutions after a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Al-Qaradawi has proclaimed himself “Mufti of martyrdom operations.”
While Al-Qaradawi’s claims to promote moderation, “he has openly permitted the killing of American troops in Iraq and praised the “heroic deeds” from “Hamas, Jihad, Al-Aqsa Brigades, and others,” according to the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT).
The London newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, reported Israeli claims that Al-Qaradawi was funding “the heart of Hamas,” the Al-Islam Charity, through his Welfare Coalition. He has also pledged to fight the United States if it attacked Iran, stating: “When America threatened it [Iran], I said I am against America. Iran has the right to possess peaceful nuclear power, and if America fights it, we would stand up against it [America],” according to IPT. IPT also claims that “Al-Qaradawi is known for advocating the overthrow of Western capitalism.”
Al-Qaradawi is reported to have said, “We have our own economic philosophy and system which others do not have. The collapse of the capitalist system, which is based on usury and securities rather than commodities in markets, shows us that it is undergoing a crisis and that our integrated Islamic philosophy, if properly understood and applied, can replace Western capitalism.”
Which begs the question, what the hell are Muzzies doing in a Catholic university???
Muslims say crosses at Catholic University Violate “Human Rights” Radio Fox News
The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers.
The investigation alleges that Muslim students “must perform their prayers surrounded by symbols of Catholicism – e.g., a wooden crucifix, paintings of Jesus, pictures of priests and theologians which many Muslim students find inappropriate.”
A spokesperson for the Office of Human Rights told Fox News they had received a 60-page complaint against the private university. The investigation, they said, could take as long a six months.
The complaint was filed by John Banzhaf, an attorney and professor at George Washington University Law School. Banzhaf has been involved in previous litigation against the school involving the same-sex residence halls. He also alleged in his complaint involving Muslim students that women at the university were being discriminated against. You can read more on those allegations by clicking here.
Banzhaf said some Muslim students were particularly offended because they had to meditate in the school’s chapels “and at the cathedral that looms over the entire campus – the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.”
“It shouldn’t be too difficult somewhere on the campus for the university to set aside a small room where Muslims can pray without having to stare up and be looked down upon by a cross of Jesus,” he told Fox News.
A spokesman for Catholic University released a statement to Fox News indicating they had not seen any legal filings — but would respond once they do.
“Our faithfulness to our Catholic tradition has also made us a welcome home to students of other religions,” said Victor Nakas, associate vice president for public affairs. “No students have registered complaints about the exercise of their religions on our campus.”
In a 2010 interview with National Public Radio, university president John Garvey acknowledged that they don’t set aside prayer rooms for Muslim students.
“We make classrooms available, or our chapels are places where they can pray,” he told NPR. “We don’t offer Halal meat, although there are always meals that conform to Halal regulations, that allow students to do what they want.”
Banzhaf said that it is technically not illegal for Catholic University to refuse to provide rooms devoid of religious icons.
A dispute over prayer time for Muslim workers at a Tyson Food plant in Noel has been tentatively resolved.
About 130 Muslim workers, many of whom are Somali refugees, walked off the job at the plant in Friday because of the dispute.
Muslims are required to pray five times a day at specific times. The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/uiz3gN) that one of the times is 5 p.m., which was the time most in dispute between employees and a new management team at the plant.
The workers returned to the job on Monday after a tentative agreement with management allowed prayer time.
The Globe reports that Tyson officials and workers met Monday afternoon and agreed to negotiate a long-term solution.
Gee, you would think that an elementary school which teaches American History would know a little bit about flag etiquette; but then, you would be under the false assumption that your children are somehow being educated and not actually indoctrinated by a bunch of commie Lefturds and Muzzies who have no respect for America and Her traditions:

Colorado School Comes Under Fire for Hanging Saudi Flag Higher Than American Flag
An elementary school in Colorado has come under criticism after they lowered the American flag and elevated a Saudi Arabian flag.
The principal at Bauder Elementary School in Fort Collins said they did not mean to disrespect the American flag, according to a report in the Greeley Gazzette.
Principal Brian Carpenter told the newspaper that the American flag was immediately returned to its proper and prominent position at the school.

“We realize this is an extremely sensitive time with us getting close to the 10th anniversary of 9/11,” Carpenter told the Gazzette.
“There is an increased amount of alertness and sensitivity, but if someone is concerned about something to do with our flag I will settle the issue right away.”
Here, let me contextualize the hidden subtext in that statement: “There is an increased amount of Leftism, outright ignorance, “multiculturalism,” and dhimmitudeness in our faculty, but if someone catches us with our hands in the cookie-jar indoctrinating your children and makes a big enough stink about it, I will immediately mitigate any fallout and provide cover for my ‘fellow travelers’ and Islamic cohorts.”

Police arrest 15 at Playland in dispute over Muslim headwear
RYE, N.Y. — A melee broke out Tuesday afternoon at Playland Amusement Park when Muslim visitors became angry that the park was enforcing its ban on headgear by prohibiting the women from wearing their traditional head coverings on some rides.
Police from at least nine agencies converged on the park beginning at 3 p.m. after county police sought assistance in responding to the disturbance, which involved 30 to 40 people.
Two rangers were injured while breaking up a fight between visitors, and two visitors were charged with felony assault, police said. Another 13 people were arrested, most charged with disorderly conduct. Names were not disclosed, and all those charged were released by Tuesday night.
One of the rangers suffered an injured knee and the other an injured shoulder, said Deputy Parks Commissioner Peter Tartaglia.
The park was crowded with Muslims celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, one of Islam’s two major holidays. Most were from community groups in Westchester and New York City as part of a daylong event arranged by the Muslim American Society of New York.
“It’s unfortunate because everybody just wants to be home with their families today,” said Zead Ramadan of the Council on American Islamic Relations.
Parks officials “painstakingly” told the organizer about the headgear ban, said Tartaglia. But he said that the rules might not have been communicated by the organizer to some attendees.
Three accidents on Playland rides that killed two children and a park worker between 2004 and 2007 were unrelated to clothing the victims were wearing. But the headgear ban was among safety rules that went into effect after those deaths.
“It’s a safety issue on rides. If it’s a scarf, you could choke,” Tartaglia said.
Accounts of what happened varied, but everyone agreed the dispute began after parkgoers were told the headgear ban applied to women wearing traditional Muslim head coverings, known as hijabs.
Tartaglia said once word of that got out there were “a lot of unhappy people.”
Tartaglia said park officials were in the process of arranging refunds when members of the Muslim group got into a scuffle with each other.
If there is one thing that absolutely rubs me the wrong way with Chris Christie it’s his consistent track record of supporting Islam—even to the point of trampling on the Constitutional rights of individuals to exercise their Freedom of Speech whenever Islam is involved! I guess you can call Chis Christie the antithesis of Herman Cain.
The New Jersey governor appointed a Muslim judge this year, something Cain said he would never do (and then backtracked), and during a press conference yesterday answered questions about it. Or more appropriately put, he delivered a trademarked, passionate tongue-lashing of those who questioned his decision.
“Ignorance is behind the criticism of Sohail Mohammed,” he told a reporter asking about the complaints that he may be inadequate to be a judge because he defended Muslim Americans who were wrongly arrested post-9/11. “He is an extraordinary American who is an outstanding lawyer and played an integral role in the post-September 11th period in building bridges between the Muslim American community in this state and law enforcement,” Gov. Christie argued, adding that he was “disgusted, candidly, by some of the questions he was asked… at the Senate judiciary committee.”
But it was a follow-up question on the fear of Sharia Law that set the governor off. “Sharia Law has nothing to do with this at all, it’s crazy!” he cried. “The guy is an American citizen!” He concluded that the “Sharia Law business is just crap… and I’m tried of dealing with the crazies,” adding with disgust and frustration that “it’s just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background.”

Lubbock Muslim community braces for backlash Posted: February 25, 2011 – Amarillo Globe News

Members of Lubbock’s Muslim community reacted with surprise and dismay at the news of the arrest Wednesday of Saudi-born Lubbock resident Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari on charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
Imam Samer Altabaa of the Islamic Center of the South Plains had just begun to contact people in the Saudi community when contacted for comment Thursday. He said he did not know Aldawsari and had not heard of him before the arrest. He also said that no one in the Saudi community seemed to know Aldawsari, who identified himself as Muslim on his Facebook page.
“They are shocked,” he said of the people he contacted.

The Muslim community is bracing itself for possible retaliation. The Islamic Student Center has been vandalized multiple times, and Altabaa said Lubbock police have agreed to provide security in the coming days for the Islamic Center and the Islamic Student Center.
Altabaa said that retaliatory acts are often committed by people who do not know about Islam.
“We faced this before. We are afraid because there are some people that are ignorant or that don’t have enough information about Islam.”
Altabaa added, “They don’t know that (Aldawsari) is an alien to Islam … He is the enemy of humanity, not only the religion.”

Altabaa expressed appreciation for the role intelligence sources had in capturing the suspect.
“They are keeping our country safe from these terrorists,” he said.
When asked about the Quran’s stance on violent and terrorist acts, Altabaa responded, “The Quran always calls all Muslims to commit to peace, to live with peace, especially with non-Muslims.”
*Cough, cough, cough* Sorry, I just spit my coffee out all over the keyboard. “Always,” you say? Gee, that’s one of the biggest loads of crap I’ve read in a long time! As it only takes one verse to counter his lie, I think I’ll pull out just one of the 109+ verses that calls on all Muslims to fight against non-Muslims:
“O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).” Unholy Qur’an 9:123
He added, “God sent (Mohammed) to have mercy in the world, and to spread mercy on all creation of the world.”
Muhammad the Merciful? Yeah, right. That’s why Muhammad had so many Jews and non-believers killed in Medina and elsewhere, right? How wonderfully merciful of Muhammad…
Quoting a translation of the Quran, Altabaa said, “Whoever kills one person, (it is as) if he killed all human beings; he is equal to a person who killed all human beings. And whoever saves one person’s life, (it is as) if he saved all human beings. The Quran makes it clear to every Muslim.”
Uh… Not really:
Here we have yet another example of Muzzies quoting out of context in order to pull the wool over the eyes of the infidels. That verse he cited is directed towards the Jews, NOT the Muslims, and is actually a condemnation of the actions of the Israelies (Jews). Notice how he carefully avoided quoting the beginning of that verse which starts out, “That is why We laid it down for the Israelites that…” You see, had he quoted the entire verse, it would have been obvious that it was the Jews who were commanded to uphold this decree and NOT the Muslims, as he fatuously claims when he says that the Qur’an ‘makes it clear to every Muslim.”
Furthermore, he deftly truncated his recital because the rest of that verse and the next says: “[5:32 ( cont. )] …Our messengers went to them [the Jews] with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing. [5:33] – The just retribution for those who fight Allah and His messenger, and commit horrendous crimes, is to be killed, or crucified, or to have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or to be banished from the land. This is to humiliate them in this life, then they suffer a far worse retribution in the Hereafter.”
So, no; the Qur’an doesn’t make it clear to the Muzzies that killing one person is like killing the whole of humanity—it makes that clear only to the Jews. What it does make clear to the Muzzies, however, is that those who fight in any way, shape, or form against Islam are to be killed, or crucified, or to have their hands and feet cut off…
“Muslims are people of peace,” said the imam, “because this is what Islam means.”
Sheesh! For the umpteenth time, Islam does NOT mean peace! It means submission, as in submitting to Allah and his messenger [CLICK HERE]. This imam guy is either a liar or a complete moron. Take your pick. I’ll go with “liar” because he obviously knows that the Qur’an allows for Muzzies to lie about Islam to non-believers [CLICK HERE].
