Crescent shapes with and without Islamic intent: the Obama logo example

The two most widely recognized symbols of Islam are the crescent and the sword. Kind of amusing that Barack Hussein Obama’s campaign logo can be seen to feature both a crescent and a curved Islamic scimitar:

The crescent shape in Obama’s logo has the round part on top, just like a traditional crescent shaped mihrab (the Mecca direction indicator around which every mosque is built). The animation shows the two most famous mihrabs in the world: the mihrab from the Great Mosque in Cordoba, and the Prophet’s mihrab in Medina.

The lighter vertical column in the center-bottom of the logo, presumably meant to indicate reflected light, even conveys the full vertical shape of a traditional mihrab. The scimitar in the animation is from the flag of the Bosnian regiment of the Nazi SS.

If Obama himself had come up with this crescent logo, one might suspect Islamic intent, given his Islamic heritage. But the logo was not designed by Obama. It was designed by a Chicago based branding firm named Sender, which claims credit for coming up with: “a white sunrise against a blue sky, over a landscape implied by red and white stripes.”

Obama definitely deserves to be made fun of for having a fairly obvious crescent shape in his logo, given his efforts to convince the public that he is not Muslim. This is already an uphill climb, when both his grandmother and his cousin are telling documented lies about their religion, claiming to be Christian in one venue while professing themselves Muslim in another. Lying about being Christian: it’s an Obama family tradition!

Still, there is no indication that the crescent and scimitar shapes in Obama’s logo are intended to convey any Islamic meaning. A genuine coincidence apparently. At the opposite pole is the Crescent of Embrace design for the Flight 93 memorial:

Contrast 1: Architect Paul Murdoch CALLS his crescent shaped memorial a crescent
The Crescent of Embrace name proves that the Flight 93 crescent was and is intended to be seen as a crescent. Only very reluctantly did the Memorial Project change the name, and the changes they made to the design are purely cosmetic. Every particle of the original Crescent of Embrace design remains completely intact in the Bowl of Embrace redesign.

Contrast 2: The Islamic symbolism is overt
It is not plausible that an architect, designing a memorial to people murdered by Islamic terrorists, could be oblivious to the fact that his memorial design is laid out in the shape of a bare naked Islamic crescent and star flag, readily identifiable as a crescent and star flag to airliners like Flight 93 passing overhead.

The Memorial Project simply assumes that the Islamic symbol shapes CAN’T be intentional, which is about like seeing an airliner fly into the World Trade Center and assuming it CAN’T be intentional. Do these people even remember the day they are supposed to be memorializing?

Contrast 3: The Flight 93 crescent contains still further Islamic symbolism
It turns out that the giant crescent points to Mecca. A crescent that Muslims face into to face Mecca is a well known structure in the Islamic world. It is a mihrab (as seen in the above animation), which gives the direction that Muslims are to face for prayer.

Everyone at the Memorial Project is fully aware that a person facing into the giant crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca. This according to Flight 93 Advisory Commission member Tim Baird. Again, they all just assume that this MUST be an innocent mistake (the equivalent of seeing as SECOND airliner fly into the Trade Center, and STILL assuming it can’t POSSIBLY be intentional).

Contrast 4: Proof of intent
Paul Murdoch PROVES that the Mecca orientation is intentional by repeating it in the crescents of trees that surround the minaret like Tower of Voices. Below is an animated run-through of the repeated Mecca-orientations (2 minutes).

You can restart the animation by refreshing the page:

Animated GIF: copy and paste. You can email it! (Animation restarts each time email is opened.) Click image for larger animation, if your connection is fast enough (1MB).

Crescent of Embrace site-plan, showing both the central crescent and the Tower of Voices, here.

Contrast 5: the designer’s own thematic description is clearly terrorist memorializing
The designers of Obama’s logo offer a clearly innocent thematic description of their creation. You can tell just by looking at it what it is MEANT to signify: a white sun coming up into a blue sky over red and white rows of fruited plain. Even the uncanny intimation of the vertical sides of a traditional mihrab is fully explained by the “sun” reflecting off the red and white “landscape.”

In contrast, Paul Murdoch’s thematic account of his design is as nakedly pro-terrorist as his crescent and star layout. Murdoch says that the crescent comes from the terrorists breaking the circle. That is, they broke our liberty-loving circle and turned it into a giant Islamic-shaped Mecca-oriented crescent.

As Tom Burnett Sr. put it in his letter to American people, asking for help with our petition to keep the crescent design off of his murdered son’s gravesite:

I don’t want to celebrate the terrorist’s circle-breaking crescent-creating feat.

And lest anyone thinks that the giant crescent is no longer present, the Park Service website makes clear that, while the redesign looks more like a circle, the circle is still broken:

The circle is broken in two places that mark the southeastern path of the plane to the crash site. The circle is broken at the entry to the memorial and at the crash site.

The breaks are in the exact same places as before and the unbroken part of the circle (the crescent) remains completely unchanged. It it still points to Mecca. It is still the world’s largest mihrab by a factor of a hundred. The only difference is that now a chunk of the broken off part of the circle is included in the design, which is perfectly consistent with its original terrorist memorializing theme. The terrorists still break our liberty-loving circle and still turn it into a giant Mecca-oriented crescent.

So there you have it. Dueling crescents! Obama’s crescent logo exemplifies innocent coincidence (however guilty Obama may be of lying about his religion). In contrast, the Flight 93 crescent exemplifies proven intent. (More of architect Paul Murdoch’s endless proofs of intent here and here.)

KABUL, Afghanistan: A teacher was shot to death in northern Afghanistan after he gave a speech condemning suicide bombings, officials said Wednesday.

Abdul Hadi criticized such attacks as un-Islamic and un-Afghan during a speech Tuesday in the Archi district of Kunduz province, said Khair Mohammad Subat, the provincial education department director.

Hadi spoke at a gathering of about 700 people, including the Kunduz governor, and was on his way home when he was killed, Subat said.

Kunduz police chief Gen. Mohammad Ayub Salangi said police were investigating. No arrests have been made.

In January, Education Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar said the number of students and teachers killed in Taliban attacks spiked in the past year in a campaign to close schools and force teenage boys to join the Islamic militia.

According to UNICEF, there were 236 school-related attacks last year.

In central Logar province, meanwhile, education department director Kamaluddin Zadran said three girls schools have been set ablaze in the past three weeks.

Girls were barred from schools under the Taliban regime. After the Taliban fell in 2001, girls were allowed to return to attend, but many conservative and uneducated Afghans still forbid their girls from going.

Arsonists regularly attack girls schools. Last year, gunmen killed two students walking outside a girls school in Logar.

Education Ministry statistics indicate only 35 percent of students enrolled are girls.

Exclusive: Islam 101: An Introduction
Family Security Matters
Ron Marlar - May 14, 2008

This article is the first in a series on Islam. Islam is at best barely known in the Western world except by Muslims living among us, those who have lived with or near Muslims in other places and times, and scholars of Islam. Most of what lay people believe they know about Islam is not true. It is rather based on ignorance, wishful thinking or years of Islamic deception and propaganda.

Yet people are paying more attention to Islam, now than formerly, due to the current resurgence of Islam since the mid-1970s, one of several in the history of Islam. Because of this increased attention, our intent is to share our knowledge of Islam with all of our readers. Our knowledge is based on intense study of Islam for over 40 years, meetings with Muslims here and in their homelands, and as taught to us by Muslims there and here. We invite readers to question and to share with us also.

Since its founding by Mohammed in the 7th Century, Islam has been - and remains - a political control system with religious trappings of a theology and worship rituals. That is a theocracy. In most places where Muslims are in control, government is by theocracy. That is the reality of Islam.

Fundamentalist adherent Muslims (those who believe in the pure teachings of The Holy Qur’an) intend to take over the world for Allah and establish a worldwide caliphate - i.e., a theocracy to rule by Shar’ia law which includes converting all infidels to Islam, and if unsuccessful in the conversion, then subjugating and taxing them to live as second-class citizens in Muslim lands, or eventually killing them. Such infidels are defined as anyone not born into Islam as a Muslim, not converted to Islam or someone who has left Islamic faith belief and practices.

These are the aims stated by Mohammed going back to the 7th Century and repeated often since. You can hear them easily and well if you are listening to Muslim spokespersons, not just Osama bin Laden or any in his command.

Following Mohammed’s original intents, a principle of Islam is to seduce [deceive] infidels until they can be taken over. This tenet of Islam guides all that Muslim leaders and their followers do.

Saudi Arabia is where Mohammed founded Islam. He started Islam in Mecca then moved under pressure to Medina with his small band of followers. After gaining enough strength he returned to Mecca taking Mecca by force from pagans and atheists. From those two cities he and his followers spread Islam by military conquest and coercion, not by willing acceptance of Islam. Islam most certainly is not a religion of peace.

Most recently Muslims claim 1.7-1.9 billion followers. The number of Muslims in the U.S. is uncertain, as is the exact number of other groups of legal or illegal immigrants. Our own census-taking laws, based on separation of church and state, preclude us from asking about religious affiliation. As a matter of fact, Muslims believe the U.S. is one of the easiest places for them to spread Islam due to our laws and more current fascination with tolerance of diversity.

A recently-published estimate of the number of Muslims in the U.S is 5-7 million. That estimate is about a decade old. Thus a more probable figure is 7-10 million, given ongoing immigration and birth rates of Muslims, which far outpace the average American’s.

Islam is spread further today than ever before in its history by fundamentalist adherents who pursue its aim of a worldwide caliphate. Presently Muslims live in varying but growing numbers in the Americas, including Canada, but also in Africa, Asia, Europe, the former Soviet Union, and of course the Middle East. The Muslim Educational Trust of the United Kingdom lists 46 majority Muslim countries in the world and 56 minority Muslim countries from Angola-Zambia as of 1986. A more recent source, Islamic World.net, website of the Khalifah Institute, 2008, lists 54 majority Muslim countries. Understandably these numbers will change as the numbers of Muslims in the world increase and political situations shift.

The revelations that Mohammed received from the Angel Gibril - Arabic for the Gabriel of the Bible - are shown to have been most fortuitous for the establishment and spread of Islam. This fact is clear, if not by personal discernment, certainly by reading Robert Spencer’s The Truth about Muhammad: Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion (Washington, DC: Regnery, 2006).

Muslim acquaintances tell me that Islam, founded in Saudi Arabia by the Arab Mohammed, is an Arabic belief system; one cannot really read The Holy Qur’an except in Arabic. Considering that about 80% of Muslims do not speak Arabic, that seems unlikely, so several translations are available.

In English the one preferred by Muslims and handed out free at U.S. mosques to seekers and students of Islam is by Abdullah Yusuf Ali (Istanbul: ASIR MEDIA, 2002). The Ali and other translations are available online by searching on “Qur’an” or “Koran.” The online translations are Boolean-searchable for specific passages.

It should be noted that handouts supplementing the Qur’an and explaining Muslim life are almost always pure propaganda. In virtually every instance they address the basics of Islam that adherent Muslims want non-Muslims to believe. Then theypresent propaganda against the view they believe others hold of them, e.g., their attitude towards, and treatment of, women.

Islam sounds good at first blush. The Five Pillars of Islam are: 1. Shahadah - Declaration of Faith - There is no God but Allah. Mohammed is his messenger. 2. Salah - Prayer - Obligatory prayers performed five times a day. 3. Zakah - Almsgiving - Everything belongs to God. Wealth is held in trust by human beings. We must share with others for purification and growth of our possessions as well. 4. Sawm - Fasting - is during Ramadan from dawn to sundown by all able Muslims by abstaining from food, drink and sex with their spouses. 5. Hajj - Pilgrimage - the obligation is only for those who are able physically and financially to make at least one trip to Mecca in one’s lifetime. Certainly few can quarrel with such worthy practices.

Similarly, Muslims proclaim 99 names for Allah - descriptive terms generally relating attributes of Allah. These include All Merciful, Pure One, Source of Peace, Creator, Maker of Order, Shaper of Beauty, Forgiving, All Knowing, All Seeing and All Powerful. In sum, terms easily acceptable to Jews, Christians and other faith beliefs about God.

At the outset of this series, though, you must suspend your faith belief and your beliefs, which are most likely based on propaganda or something else, like willful ignorance of Islam. With all apologies and due respect to people who want to follow the faith of Islam but to do it peacefully, Islam is most definitely not a religion of peace, as established by Mohammed in the 7th Century, and repeated so often, loudly and clearly, since.

In future articles we will examine in more detail these concepts as they are practiced by Muslims. A starter set of references for learning more about Islam is included below for your own study.

Islam References - A Starter and Ongoing Study Set:

Note: A basic understanding of The Holy Bible will be helpful. Muslims believe the Bible is corrupted with no explanation that I have heard yet as to how that occurred exactly. They believe The Holy Qur’an is pure and without error.

Despite these distinctions (and others to be addressed in future columns) Muslim believers who know the Bible at all and their less knowledgeable followers share some commonality with Christian and Jewish believers in the Bible’s Old Testament.

Muslims also believe Jesus was a prophet like Mohammed, and born to the Virgin Mary, conceived in some mysterious way but not by relations with Allah who would not stoop to such with a mere human.

Muslims reject the Trinity as polytheism, not understanding the theology of the Trinity.

In similar fashion Jewish believers reject Jesus as the Messiah - Anointed One, Son of God. Adherents of Judaism are expecting the Messiah yet to come for the first time.

A few, quick references:

1.The Holy Qur’an - Muslim-preferred translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali (Istanbul: ASIR MEDIA, 2002). ISBN: 1931-445-21-4; POB 55 Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey. Also available online as are other translations in searchable format for specific passages. An easy and interesting way to get a free Qur’an is to visit your local mosque and request a copy. As a woman in keeping with Muslim protocol be sure to enter the mosque through the women’s entrance; rather than the men’s separate entrance. I believe the women also remove their shoes before entering the mosque although I have never noticed due to their dress and the Muslimprotocol of not paying too much notice to women lest I be offensive to their traditions.

2. For the more dedicated and not such a quick reference, The World of Islam: Resources for Understanding (Colorado Springs: Global Mapping International, 2000). This is a CD of extensive writings primarily by Muslims - more than any person might be able to read and absorb in a lifetime. Available from POB 25399, Colorado Springs, CO 80936-5399, 719-531-3599, info@gmi.org.

3. Why I Am Not a Muslim by Ibn Warraq (Amherst, NY: Prometheus Books, 2003). 716-691-0133, ext. 207, http://www.prometheusbooks.com/.

Michael Moore making ‘9/11′ sequel
Variety
Documentary to be released in 2009
By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK, ANNE THOMPSON

Michael Moore is making a sequel to “Fahrenheit 9/11″ for Overture Films and Paramount Vantage, which will shop the project to international buyers when the Cannes Film Festival and market get under way today.

The two companies are co-financing and co-producing the untitled doc, which will be released next year. Overture will distribute the film domestically, while Vantage will handle international.

Moore may be leaving the Weinstein Co. — where he made his last two films, including “Fahrenheit 9/11″ — but Overture and Vantage are no strangers to the filmmaker. Overture CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett were both at MGM and United Artists, home of Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine.”

Moore also knows Vantage topper Nick Meyer, former president of Lionsgate’s international arm. Lionsgate teamed with Bob and Harvey Weinstein and distributed “Fahrenheit 9/11″ after Disney refused to let Miramax do so. Lionsgate again teamed with the Weinsteins to distribute Moore’s most recent docu, “Sicko.”

“Fahrenheit 9/11,” a scathing indictment of George W. Bush’s war on terrorism and a hit at the worldwide box office, won the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2004. “Bowling for Columbine” also played at Cannes, and “Sicko” preemed at the fest last year.

Moore’s new doc could play at Cannes next year, if it isn’t released earlier in the spring. He’s already at work on the film.

“Clearly, we have a movie of global appeal here. Michael Moore is a very talented filmmaker, and this is a branded property,” Meyer said, adding that the Weinsteins helped build that brand.

Sequel will pick up where “Fahrenheit 9/11″ left off. In the time since, Bush’s popularity has plummeted, while the Iraq war continues and the economy falters.

“It’s a vote of confidence on Michael’s part and a great partnership for all of us,” Rosett said. “There is a voracious appetite for this kind of commentary.“

[Yeah, if you like the taste of shit...]

Moore has made three of the five top-grossing documentaries of all time. “Fahrenheit 9/11″ is the highest-grossing docu ever domestically, earning $119.1 million. It grossed another $100 million at the international box office.

Moore’s decision not to make his next film with the Weinstein Co. comes after “Sicko” failed to ignite at the box office. Film, which took on the U.S. health care system, grossed $24.5 million domestically and $11.2 million internationally. Topically, the film didn’t resonate with overseas auds.

Deal strengthens the relationship between Vantage and Overture. Last year, the two entered into an exclusive international distribution deal that gives Overture access to Vantage’s international sales division, as well as the distrib arm of Paramount Pictures Intl.

CANBERRA - Australia is mulling whether to launch a case in the International Court of Justice against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for inciting violence against Israel, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Wednesday.

Rudd said Ahmadinejad had made repeated anti-Semitic statements that must be condemned by the international community.

“The Iranian president’s repeated extraordinary statements which are anti-Semitic and expressing a determination to eliminate the modern state of Israel from the map are appalling by any standards of current international relations,” Rudd told Australia’s Sky TV.

“They are an incitement of international violence and what we have said in the past is that we will take legal advice, which the attorney general is currently doing, on whether there is a profitable way forward here through the appropriate international legal mechanisms and we’ll study that advice carefully,” he said.

Rudd, a Chinese speaking former diplomat, said the Iranian comments were “dangerous stuff” in the context of international relations.

“It’s not just hyperbole from the bully pulpit of Tehran, it’s the roll-on effect across the Islamic world, particularly those who listen to Iran for their guidance,” Rudd said.

A national newspaper, The Australian, reported Wednesday that Rudd had promised the Australian Jewish community before be came to power at elections in November last year to pursue Ahmadinejad in the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

The United Nation’s court settles disputes between states according to international law and gives advice to the United Nations on legal issues.

Attorney General Robert McClelland told the newspaper that taking legal action against Iran was better than the alternative.

“The alternative to not using these international legal mechanisms is considering wholesale invasion of countries, which itself involves, obviously, expense but more relevantly, of course, the potential for significant loss of life,” the newspaper quoted McClelland as saying.

An official of the Iranian Embassy in Australia was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.

PARIS (AFP) - A French court on Wednesday handed down jail sentences to seven men convicted of running a network that recruited poor young Muslims in Paris to fight in the Iraqi insurgency.

Tracked down and arrested after a young Frenchman was found dead in the Iraqi city of Fallujah in 2004, five French nationals, one Algerian and one Moroccan were handed jail terms of between 18 months and seven years.

Aged between 24 and 40, all were convicted of travelling to Iraq to take part in combat or of recruiting young men in Paris’ heavily-immigrant northeast, including at a local mosque, to send as fighters.

Ringleaders Farid Benyettou, 27, and Boubakeur El Hakim, 24 — whose brother was killed in Fallujah and who himself fought in Iraq — received sentences of six and seven years respectively.

The court found Benyettou guilty of sending youths “to fight in Iraq, possibly by carrying out suicide attacks, after joining the troops of Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi,” Al-Qaeda’s leader in Iraq killed in a US air strike in 2006.

Benyettou admitted in court he may have influenced local youths by defending suicide attacks committed in the name of Islam, but said they were already determined to join the jihad. He insisted he had “a right to have convictions” even “extremist” ones.

Hakim was found guilty of inciting fellow Parisians to join him in Iraq, including through videos shot in the country, and of facilitating their trip to the war-torn country.

A third defendant, Moroccan national Said Abdellah, was handed seven years for his connections with a string of jihadist recruitment networks, including the Paris operation.

And 37-year-old Algerian Nacer Eddine Mettai — who is already serving out a separate six-year jail sentence — was given four years for supplying would-be fighters with fake identity documents.

All four have been in custody since the start of the investigation. Both foreigners were definitively banned from French territory once they leave jail.

A Frenchman of Tunisian descent, Mohammed El Ayouni, who lost an eye and a forearm in Fallujah in November 2004, received an 18-month sentence, as did Thamer Bouchnak and Cherif Kouachi, arrested just before they left for Syria.

The three have already served out their sentences in pre-trial detention.

At least a dozen youths, either foreign or of North African descent, many of them friends since childhood, are known to have travelled to fight US-led forces in Iraq, from 2004 onwards.

Three died in a suicide bombing, while several others were injured or arrested in Iraq and neighbouring Syria.

Federal judge dismisses lawsuit by Muslim woman asked to remove veil in court
Mike Rosen-Molina - Tuesday, May 13, 2008

[JURIST] A federal judge Monday dismissed a federal lawsuit filed by a Muslim woman against a judge who asked her to remove her niqab in court. Ginnnah Muhammad had alleged that Illinois small claims Judge Paul Paruk [31st District Court website] said he had to see her face to gauge her veracity and threatened to dismiss her case if she refused to remove her veil. Muhammad argued that the request violated her First Amendment right to practice her religion as well as the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 by denying her access to the courts because of her religion. AP has more.

The niqab has become a controversial topic in several Western countries recently, as lawmakers struggle to balance an individual’s right to practice their religion with public policy and security concerns. In September 2007, Canadian chief electoral officer Marc Mayrand resisted calls by Canadian lawmakers to invoke his discretionary powers to require women to remove traditional Muslim niqabs or burqas when voting in elections in the province of Quebec. In the UK, the High Court in February 2007 upheld , a school ban on students wearing niqabs in class, saying the veils could interfere with student-teacher interaction.

Paramilitary group threatens to move into Rathfriland

13 May 2008 - banbridgeleader
By JOHN HOOKS

A SINISTER paramilitary group which claims to be fully armed and ready to attack is threatening to take to the streets of Rathfriland.

The shadowy British Defence Organisation posted a chilling warning on the internet after our exclusive story which showed young people doing laps of Rathfriland Square while sitting on the roof of a car.

“It would seem that Rathfriland is a lawless place at night,” said a BDO spokesperson.

“It’s claimed to be a loyalist town, yet they break Her Majesty’s Laws. Seems the BDO need to install a company or have a battalion overseeing what is going on in this reckless town.

“I have caught word that the police rarely are in the town at night. Well the company or battalion we will put in charge of over-looking what goes on will inform the police and present video evidence. You are a disgrace to your British heritage.”

The BDO says it formed to protect the UK and its Commonwealth areas. “We will tackle terrorism in the UK, Muslim extremists and will assist the British armed forces if necessary,” said the spokesperson.

“We will also tackle organised crime gangs and drug dealers, taking them off the streets and putting them behind bars. We take no prisoners and are fully armed and ready to defend and attack.”

Local SDLP councillor Seamus Doyle has condemned the group’s comments and has called on the police to investigate the matter.

“This group thinks they can come to Rathfriland and police the streets. Well I can them they will have no support in the town,” said Mr Doyle.

“Rathfriland residents have been successful in recent years sorting out its own problems, the people certainly don’t need help from groups like this.

“It is very worrying that a group, which claims to have guns, is trying to move into the town.”
Meanwhile, Banbridge police have said they are now aware of the development and will be launching an investigation.

CAIR: The US and Israel are the Terrorists

“We don’t live for this world, as many of the Ikhwan [Brotherhood] seem to believe unfortunately. We live for the afterlife. This dunya [world] is for Joe Kaufman and Alan Dershowitz and George Bush. Let them have it because they’ll have no share in the next life.”

- Radical Islamist and CAIR Staffer, Omer Subhani

On March 1, 2008, CAIR-Florida representative Jawhar “Joe” Badran, with CAIR-Florida Executive Director Altaf Ali by his side, proclaimed on camera that “Hamas is not a terrorist organization.” Statements such as these from CAIR officials come sparse, as the group’s support for its murderous Palestinian patriarch is usually hidden. However, it turns out that one of Badran’s CAIR-Florida colleagues, Omer Subhani, said the same months before. And he continues to do so.

Omer Subhani is a 25-year-old Pakistani-American, who currently holds the position of Communications Director for the South Florida office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Being an officer for CAIR, an organization aligned with terrorist groups overseas - most notably Hamas - Subhani has the burden of attempting to explain (or explain away) CAIR’s sinister connections.

But first, he must explain his own.

Subhani has been involved in radical Muslim organizations, since at least his teenage years. Last month, he wrote, on his personal blog, “I remember back when I was a freshman in high school, me and my closest friend initiated the first annual MYNA Basketball Tournament at Florida International University in 1996 I believe.” He stated that MYNA or Muslim Youth of North America was created by the Muslim Students Association (MSA) and admits that the MSA’s founders “were former members or nominally inclined to the Muslim Brotherhood and its teachings of activism (and world domination of course).”

In addition, Subhani was involved with Islamic Relief (IR), a “charity” that, like CAIR, has been recognized as being a front for Hamas. He was a contact for a fundraiser for the group, which was held at Nova Southeastern University, in December 2004.

As a child, Subhani gained knowledge of his relatives’ fondness for suicide bombers. In October 2007, he stated on his blog, “I learned, through my adult relatives’ conversations mostly, that Pakistan was a great regional military power that had fought and defeated India multiple times in warfare. Pakistani soldiers, I was told, were Muslim heroes who strapped grenades to themselves in the face of Indian tanks and laid down in front of the tanks in order to take out the more powerful Indian military. They sacrificed their lives for Pakistani freedom.”

Last November, Subhani, concerned over the leadership situation in Pakistan, predicted the death of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Following a duel suicide bombing that took place in Karachi, he wrote, “Bhutto escaped an assassination attempt on her life the first time she came back to Pakistan. She would likely not be as successful as Musharraf in avoiding assassination attempts on a regular basis.” And after the successful suicide attack that took her life in December, Subhani mercilessly ripped her apart, saying, “I am disgusted with the U.S. media. Their coverage of Bhutto as some sort of martyr is despicable and inappropriate… She was a crook, plain and simple.”

Indeed, Subhani has a strong connection to his native Pakistan. This is evidenced by the fact that he refers to it as the “mother land.” He is quick to point out, though, that he is “an American and a Pakistani second, if at all.” He has also said that he has “zero allegiance to any other country besides America.” Yet, in November of 2007, he wrote, “I recently saw Michael Moore’s latest movie, Sicko. It was very informative and also very depressing. I am seriously considering at some point in my life moving to either Canada or Europe… All of that makes me want to jump on a boat to Cuba; it’s only 90 some miles away from my home. Viva Fidel.”

In truth, Subhani has a sincere hatred towards the United States. Last month, he even wrote, “As an American we all have the right to like our country or even to hate it.”

But Subhani goes much further than to just have a simple disdain for America. In November, he wrote, “By our own definitions of terrorism… the US is a terrorist state.”

Mimicking our enemy overseas, Subhani has called our presence in Iraq an “illegal occupation,” whilst mocking our troops. This month, he wrote, “It takes a massive level of indoctrination and in other cases, arrogance, to figure that another nation is ‘interfering’ in a country that our nation has illegally occupied… President Bush and other American officials, in public castigations of Iran, have said that Iran has been consistently meddlesome in Iraq and that the Iranians have long sought to arm and train Iraqi militias… Oh, but you know, those 150,000 American troops - they’ve been nothing but angels.”

Subhani has also compared both us and Israel to al-Qaeda, likening both countries to “cold blooded killers.” In April, he wrote, “The rationale is exactly the same, unsurprisingly. If you were to kill someone you would obviously blame your actions on either ignorance of the circumstance or situation, or on someone else’s actions. It seems al-Qaeda is just taking the approach that the U.S. and Israel have used for decades… What all of this implies is that cold blooded killers, no matter their ethnicity or religions or upbringings, think the same way.”

But while Subhani considers the United States and Israel to be terrorist entities, he refuses to say the same about Hamas and Hezbollah, two groups found on the U.S. State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). In November, he stated, “Hamas, Hezbollah, and other national liberation movements use every means at their disposal to fight occupation or oppression. It’s wrong to kill innocent people. It’s wrong to fire rockets indiscriminately at towns and villages. But that does not mean because they commit such actions that Hamas and Hezbollah are completely and utterly devout terrorist organizations, as the mainstream press here in the US likes to label them.”

In January, he wrote, “I do not agree with the idea that Hamas is a terrorist organization… Israel is far worse. Hamas has not been brutally occupying Israel for over 40 years.” And in March, he stated, “As far as saying that Hamas is a terrorist organization - that is a statement of opinion for anyone who makes it - even the State Department… [I]s Hamas a terrorist organization? Of course it’s not… Israeli war crimes, documented by the most respected human rights groups in the United States and Israel, far surpass anything Hamas or any other Palestinian organization could ever hope to accomplish.”

And in April, he admitted about his group that it has a policy of not denouncing either Hamas or Hezbollah. He wrote, “I’ve seen on TV and in print people demanding CAIR to ‘condemn’ groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. CAIR has openly condemned their violent actions, but as an organization it refuses to condemn them as groups.”

Subhani’s obsession with Hamas and Israel has led him to believe that hatred of Jews is justified. He calls this “legitimate antisemitism” and provides a laundry list of demands that Israel needs to meet, before anyone can, according to him, “expect antisemitism to dwindle.”

All of the above quotes were made starting the month Subhani joined the staff of CAIR, September of 2007. On the top of his blog, which even includes a piece calling for the release of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a disclaimer is found. It’s there for a reason. It’s to be used as an excuse to say, if an article ever comes out such as this, Subhani’s statements will be his alone.

However, Subhani’s outrageous words are a manifestation of CAIR’s true self - that being a group based on the destruction of Israel, support for terrorists, and a general disdain for the West (i.e. the United States).

Last April, Subhani wrote, “[I]f any CAIR officials have done any wrong doing then they should be punished.” While his words do not reach the level of any type of prescribed punishment, Subhani certainly has said enough to warrant his being watched as a potential threat. Who could expect any less for an individual that considers and proclaims Hamas to be anything but that which it is, a terrorist organization?
—————————————-

Muslim threats force out disabled teacher with dog
Islamic students reportedly taunted ‘unclean’ animal
WorldNetDaily

A Muslim high school student’s intolerance for a service dog needed by a student teacher with a disability has reportedly prompted the student teacher to abandon the last 10 hours of his scheduled assignment at Technical High School in St. Cloud, Minn.

The St. Cloud Times online said the situation developed with student teacher Tyler Hurd, 23, of Mahtomedi, who hopes to teach special education.

He’s a student at St. Cloud State University, and was assigned to Technical High School in the St. Cloud district for his 50 hours of student teaching, and took with him his service dog, Emmitt.

The newspaper said Hurd needs a service dog because of a childhood injury that leaves him with seizures, sometimes happening as often as weekly. The black lab is trained to protect Hurd when he has a seizure.

The school district told the newspaper it wasn’t really a threat.

“I think it was a misunderstanding where we didn’t really prepare either side for possible implications,” Julia Espe, curriculum director for the public schools, said.

Hurd, however, reported a student threatened to kill his dog. He said the threat came from a Somali student who is Muslim. Minnesota has a large Somali population, mostly Muslim, and they have been involved in issues over their religion in the past.

At the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, many taxi drivers are Somali Muslims and they have raised objections to carrying passengers with liquor. Airport officials finally threatened to remove from the cab drivers’ line waiting for fares anyone who refused a passenger over the issue.

WND also has reported on the dispute over a taxpayer-funded school in a Minneapolis suburb serving mostly Somali Muslim students and accusations that Islam is being taught at the public facility.

Islam forbids its adherents from touching dogs.

[Uhm... Not entirely true, but close enough...]

Hurd earlier spent some time student teaching at Talahi Community School, where he said his experience was good. He told the newspaper Somali students there even petted his dog, although they used paper to keep their hands from actually making physical contact.

But at Tech, Hurd reported, students taunted his dog, and he left when he was told a student threatened the animal.

University officials said they waived the remaining 10 hours of work that Hurd was supposed to have finished.

“We came up with a solution because I felt threatened by it,” Hurd told the newspaper.

A meeting was set up involving Kate Steffens, the dean of education at St. Cloud State, and assistant principal Lori Lockhart of Tech, in order to avoid future problems.

Yup, to you and I, that sounds a lot like an oppressive, male-dominated society sort of rule… But, obviously not for someone who has been indoctrinated via the stealthy Islamic re-education and re-programming system…

Fashion students at Va. university design abayas

By ZINIE CHEN SAMPSON

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The assignment for Virginia Commonwealth University fashion students: design an abaya, an enveloping cloak worn by Muslim women, that is stylish yet acceptable in Arab countries.

The results: elaborately beaded designs, a flamenco-influenced abaya, a punk rock abaya — and perhaps a better understanding of cultural norms in the Persian Gulf nation of Qatar, where the university has had a campus for 10 years.

“We were trying to make a feeling of youth — but still be true to their culture,” said Kendra Palin, a fashion design major who partnered with classmate Shelby Day to design an abaya with looped buttonholes, princess seams and a high waist. “Everything else had to be black, but the embellishment could be any color, and we used silver and blue.”

The 10 abayas were shown recently at VCU’s annual student fashion show and are being shipped to Doha, Qatar’s capital, for a fashion show at the VCU School of the Arts in Qatar.

The project is among a growing number of collaborations between students and faculty at U.S. colleges and their overseas campuses. In Doha, VCU’s arts program is part of a higher-education consortium largely funded by the Qatar Foundation, a nonprofit organization run by the nation’s ruling family. The consortium, called Education City, has its own 2,500-acre campus that also includes Texas A&M, Cornell, Georgetown and Carnegie Mellon universities.

In designing their abayas, the Richmond-based students worked with VCU’s Qatari fashion design students and graphic designers in a cultural exchange of sorts. The U.S. students made their first sketches and sent them to Qatar for initial critiques. They then assembled revised sketches, instructions and sample garments and shipped them to Doha. The Qatar team critiqued and tweaked the designs, then had a tailor construct the abayas and had locals do the beading and embroidery. The garments were then returned to VCU for finishing and final embellishments.

The project was part of Kim Guthrie’s “Give Me Shelter” class, during which her students discussed the idea of clothing as shelter and how different cultures address the concept of clothing.

“The students talked about why girls `cover’ — is it cultural or religious?” said Guthrie, who traveled to Doha this spring to oversee production of the abayas. “There’s a huge spectrum of how covered or uncovered they are, dependent on family and tradition.”

Abayas are the traditional overgarment in the Persian Gulf nations of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Oman. They also are worn in Iraq and some other Arab nations. Women and girls wear the black abaya, a lightweight crepe garment that includes a head covering called a shayla, in the presence of men and boys who are not immediate family members.

In some Gulf nations, abayas are becoming more decorated as women seek to express their sense of style — sometimes to the dismay of conservative religious critics. Wealthy women in the region are paying top dollar for elaborate designer abayas trimmed with precious stones and intricate embroidery.

However, in Saudi Arabia, which follows strict Islamic codes, officials warn that women should not wear unapproved abayas — including those with ornamentation.

Palin said the abaya she designed isn’t completely westernized, “but it’s fun and fashionable” for her intended wearer: a 20-something woman. She said she found it interesting that women can wear “pants and cute little tops” underneath and shed their abayas in women-only gatherings.

Islam requires women to dress modestly, covering their hair, arms and legs in clothes that do not outline their body. Some conservatives argue this extends to covering everything but the eyes. But for many young women, the abaya has become more a reflection of cultural tradition, something that isn’t impervious to fashion trends.

“Hopefully, if nothing else, those 20 people in my class have gained a more neutral approach to what goes on in the world,” Guthrie said. “Just because the women wear this doesn’t mean they’re oppressed.”

Jeff Goldberg:— Do you think that Israel is a drag on America’s reputation overseas?

Barack Obama:— No, no, no. But what I think is that this constant wound, that this constant sore, does infect all of our foreign policy. The lack of a resolution to this problem provides an excuse for anti-American militant jihadists to engage in inexcusable actions, and so we have a national-security interest in solving this, and I also believe that Israel has a security interest in solving this because I believe that the status quo is unsustainable. I am absolutely convinced of that, and some of the tensions that might arise between me and some of the more hawkish elements in the Jewish community in the United States might stem from the fact that I’m not going to blindly adhere to whatever the most hawkish position is just because that’s the safest ground politically.

h/t: :Larwyn

Note: Obama partisans are claiming that he said that the Midle East conflict is a constant sore. But quite clearly the antecedent to “this constant wound, that this constant sore” in the question is “Israel.” Perhaps the Harvard-trained lawyer who tells us that words are important wants us to believe he was just sloppy. Or maybe words don’t matter when he doesn’t want them to?

Update from Ed Lasky:

David Frum at National Review Online adds some additional commentary

Obama: [S]ome of the tensions that might arise between me and some of the more hawkish elements in the Jewish community in the United States might stem from the fact that I’m not going to blindly adhere to whatever the most hawkish position is just because that’s the safest ground politically.I want to solve the problem, and so my job in being a friend to Israel is partly to hold up a mirror and tell the truth and say if Israel is building settlements without any regard to the effects that this has on the peace process, then we’re going to be stuck in the same status quo that we’ve been stuck in for decades now, and that won’t lift that existential dread that David Grossman described in your article.

(1) a condescending assumption that the so-called hawkish position on the Arab-Israeli dispute is “blind” and adopted by US politicians only because they seek political safety - there’s no acknowledgement that the dovish position was ever tried or that it in fact produced a terrible war in 2000-2003;

(2) the attitude, common on the Democratic left, that real friendship to Israel consists in compelling Israeli governments to do things that most Israelis regard as dangerous;

(3) acceptance of the red herring that it is “settlements” that are the source of the Arab-Israeli dispute;

I wasn’t flummoxed. I think what is going on there is the same reason why there are some suspicions of me in the Jewish community. Look, we don’t do nuance well in politics and especially don’t do it well on Middle East policy. We look at things as black and white, and not gray. It’s conceivable that there are those in the Arab world who say to themselves, “This is a guy who spent some time in the Muslim world, has a middle name of Hussein, and appears more worldly and has called for talks with people, and so he’s not going to be engaging in the same sort of cowboy diplomacy as George Bush,” and that’s something they’re hopeful about. I think that’s a perfectly legitimate perception as long as they’re not confused about my unyielding support for Israel’s security.

No one is right or wrong, it’s all “gray” and he’s just the guy to let everyone know. What is jaw-dropping, however, is his assumption that Hamas might be impressed with his “worldly” outlook. That’s what Hamas has been searching for: someone who is worldly. And notice the evasion he employs (”talks with people”) to escape stating the obvious: they are thrilled he’s offered direct talks with their sponsor and Holocaust denier Ahmejinidad.

By Fadi Eyadat and Yuval Azoulay

A 70-year-old woman was killed as her son watched when a rocket fired by militants from the Gaza Strip struck a meter from where she was standing yesterday.

The rocket hit a house in Moshav Yesha, 15 kilometers east of Gaza. This rocket struck farther from Gaza than most fired from the Strip. No one else was hurt.

The woman, Shuli Katz, and her son were on their way to visit her sister-in-law on Moshav Yesha.

A neighbor said that Katz’s sister-in-law, who is visiting from the United States, was afraid to visit Katz at her home, on Kibbutz Gvaram near Ashkelon, because of the two rockets that struck Ashkelon earlier yesterday.

Instead, she asked Katz to visit her at Moshav Yesha.

At close to 7 P.M., Katz and her son arrived at the home on the moshav where her sister-in-law was staying.

“They drove up to the back entrance with their car. The son got out of the car to make sure they had come to the right house, while his mother stayed near the car.

The rocket alert siren sounded and the mother didn’t have time to find shelter. The rocket fell a meter from her,” said Haim Yelin, head of the Eshkol Regional Council.

The moshav’s security officer Eli Avital, who was among the first to reach the site, said that Katz was already dead when he arrived.

“She was hit by shrapnel. The son was standing under the house in shock, crying. He knew his mother was dead. She didn’t have a chance,” Avital said.

The paramedics tried to resuscitate Katz, but were forced to pronounce her death.

The attack came as the Egyptian intelligence chief wrapped up talks with Israel over a truce with Hamas that would end rocket attacks and Israeli reprisals.

Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the deadly rocket. Islamic Jihad is responsible for most of the rockets fired by Gaza militant groups at Israeli towns.

Israel has accused Islamic Jihad of receiving its rockets from Iran.

Government spokesman Mark Regev denounced the attack but did not say it would halt the truce talks. “The rocket fire into Israel will end, it will end either because calm will be achieved, or Israel will act to protect its people,” he said.

‘Terrible bad luck’

The head of the moshav’s emergency team, Shosh Moshe, said that Katz had spoken to her sister-in-law that morning.

“Her sister-in-law and the family were afraid to drive to Gvaram because of the rockets that fell this morning in Ashkelon and asked her to come to the moshav in the evening. It’s terrible bad luck,” she said.

Gvaram secretariat chairman, Shauli Rabid, said Katz was born and raised on the kibbutz and had four children, including two daughters who are married and living in England.

Her two sons are in Israel. Ravid said that Katz’s husband died of cancer in December 2003.

“She worked as a nurse in the kibbutz until she retired. She was well known and loved because of her long public service. She and her husband grew a lovely garden around her house, she loved flowers and art,” Ravid said.

Katz was the first person to be killed in Moshav Yesha. Over the past seven years, seven rockets landed in the moshav.

“I’m leaving today,” said Zehava Atias, who moved to Yesha seven years ago. “I have an 18-year-old son. We are not protected here and have nowhere to hide. Nobody has a safe room and I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to my boy.”

Earlier yesterday, two Grad rockets hit Ashkelon.

One of the rockets struck an area crowded with many schools and kindergartens at 7 A.M., only minutes before children normally flood the area. The second rocket struck the Ashkelon National Park.

One woman was treated for shock and some homes sustained damage

A gang of teenage girls may have blown up a house with a home-made liquid bomb, which killed a man in a neighbouring property, after arguing with another girl about a love rival.

Purple liquid was poured through the letterbox of the Victorian house before the an explosion destroyed three houses.

Their intended victim, Charlotte Anderson, was caught in the blast and was rushed to intensive care suffering with severe burns.

Ten hours earlier Miss Anderson had phoned police to say a gang of girls aged 16 and 17 was causing trouble outside her home, in Ha
