Citizen U.S.A. The Reality

I read this a few days a go and could not wait to comment on it. I found it interesting and think that you will agree. The article touches on a few truths, minority progressives do not understand that democracy means the majority sets the rules not the other way around.

The vast majority of immigrants both legal and illegal improve their lives just by making it here. It is always good to read the story of a new citizen that earned a chance, excelled and most importantly appreciates everything this great country has done.

My American citizenship was an arduous journey, years in the making. It took mountains of paperwork on both sides of the Atlantic. Papers had to be translated from and into English, notarized, fiscally stamped, taxed, and approved. Appointments had to be made with various officials and officers of the law.

Security Police interrogations and screenings were performed. Were you ever a Communist, how much debt did you have, did you have a savings account, did you have a job, who was going to support you, who was going to pay my medical bills, did I speak English, did I pass the American Government test, was I literate, and who was the president. And the questions never stopped until the American government was sure that I would not be a burden on the American taxpayers and would be a contributing citizen to this wonderful republic.

Things have changed dramatically. Now prospective and future American citizens come to hearings with their translators in tow. The American government has to provide them with translations in Spanish of any piece of paper they have to fill out.

If foreign nationals come to court, although some of them have lived in the U.S. for 23 years and speak English, they prefer to give testimony in Spanish, out of respect for their first language. What about the respect for those present in the courtroom who conduct business in the language of the land, English?
-Nice point, reality is we can take out pick from the best the world has to offer. Until we see millions sneaking into China maybe, we should be picky. If you do not want to learn English then stay where you are.

Voting rolls are translated into Spanish and school curricula are provided in two languages, at great expense to the taxpayer. Hospitals must provide translators to illegal aliens who flock to the emergency rooms as if they are doctors’ offices. Companies display every sign in their stores both in English and Spanish and phone calls are answered only after pressing one for English.

The ceremony of becoming a citizen is a sacred one – one swears allegiance to America, to the republic and everything it stands for. You swear to honor and preserve its culture, its symbols, its flag, and its national anthem. You do not have the right to wave and display the flag of your former country in the face of Americans while telling them that America will soon be yours because it was stolen from you.
-Actually, they do have a right to free speech but we also have a right to send them back.

I am not sure that borders of any country in the world have been adjudicated by entirely peaceful means; usually borders were carved out after a conflict, armistice, as a purchase, or other forms of forced distribution.

Washington Post writes in a recent column about “Citizen U.S.A.,” a 53-minute film made by Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, Alexandra. Washington Post states that we have “not learned much” from this film other than “how easy it is to take your citizenship for granted.”

The writer was apparently fascinated not by the momentous occasion of becoming a citizen of the greatest nation on earth, but by the “wide and occasionally bizarre variety of amateur entertainment that precedes a swearing-in ceremony: choirs of elderly patriots, story tellers, a woman doing a song and an audience participation dance, involving red, white, and blue paper plates…” I was not aware that choirs of elderly patriots, dance, or story telling are bizarre.

The Washington Post article continues that, although we are a “nation at war” and “griped out,” the swear-in ceremony “will give you hope in this 235-year experiment we’ve got going here.”

I thought we lived in a 235-year old most successful nation on earth, not an experiment.
The critic is annoyed with the film because only “passing references are made to current immigration debates, particularly when Pelosi visits Arizona and there’s a mob (my emphasis) outside the building counter-protesting the state’s recently harsh-ified (my emphasis) immigration laws.”
-It is not just Arizona, many states are starting to crack down on the flood of humanity leaching limited resources and those that prefer the criminal illegals to honest citizens are scared.

The writer apparently ignores the fact that in Arizona the debate is over, it is the law, the majority has decided. It is hard for progressives to admit defeat when their minority ranks do not get their wishes. Only in a liberal mind is a law that already exists at the federal level in more stringent form, harsh. Only in a liberal mind, breaking the law to come to this country by crossing the border illegally should be rewarded with instant citizenship.

The writer claims that this film, “Citizen U.S.A.,” is “without an agenda, open to all.” The final revelation he has, describes his real frame of reference. “Apart from the occasional debate over whether the United States needs to replace the national anthem with something more singable than “The Star Spangled Banner,” one song was apparently long ago chosen for that task by the people in charge of swearing-in ceremonies, Lee Greenwood’s sap-tastic (my emphasis) 1984 ballad “God Bless the U.S.A.”
-Once we saw the Pelosi name on the film we knew it was garbage, now thankfully we do not have to lower ourselves into watching it.

I was not aware that the national anthem was open for debate. As a proud American citizen by choice, I cherish and honor it. Perhaps it is debatable in the progressive mind and the minds of the newly minted Americans interviewed for the movie. Proposing to change our sacred national anthem and still trying to debate the immigration law that has passed in Arizona and is being implemented, does not seem to me that the movie has no agenda.
-You will find that America welcomes those that want to join us and that will uphold our values and freedoms. Unfortunately, the flood of human garbage that flows in around the seams ruins it for many that could earn the right to join us.

I hope the newly minted citizens will give us all hope that this 235-year old Constitutional Republic will thrive in spite of its financial troubles created by past and current administrations through their schizophrenic economic policies and outlandish spending.

The torch of freedom of the land of plenty, of the shining city on the hill that everyone wants to immigrate to, will be passed on by this proud American to my children, my former students, and all proud Americans who make this country exceptional.
-Catch that? “Proud Americans”, unfortunately there are many that think that the world will be improved once all nations are impoverished and enslaved under the total control of a ruling elite. The rest of us know that the day may come again when armed Americans face off against a traitorous and oppressive ruling power.

When my family first came to North America the USA did no yet exist and neither did communism so they were not asked any questions like that. In those days you were much more likely to be killed by the journey or once here by hostile Indians or French/Spanish marauders from the upper north and or lower south. It would have been much easier just to have to fill out a questionnaire. With the advent of the steamship and then the airplane it became much easier to come here. If you think about it, it is the same old euro-adversaries but now our so called leadership is giving away what many Americans fought for and gave their lives and or livelyhoods to preserve and protect. It is nothing less than a monstrous crime against our humanity, American humanity. Many of them should be tried and then hanged on the National Mall, for it.

Another developing problem is some people were and still are brought here against their will and they are angry about it. A wrong has not yet been completely righted. As I always say, America, being an American is not for everyone, perhaps one tenth of one percent of people from any given country or region have that, spirit, that desire. But that’s ok cause they deserve to be who and what they want to be and so do we. I don’t believe we can be happy again until many of these haters are returned to their rightful places, that of course they desire above all, including being an American.

I agree, my forebearers were here in the early 1700’s on my dad’s side and my mom’s folks fled Hapsburg rule, the entire extended family truly appreciates this great nation. As I have said before if the real crooks and criminals in our government were ever tried and convicted, there would not be enough orange jumpsuits to go around or prison cells to fill.

The left, and our political class are in trouble here, for selling America and all Americans out, and they know it. Once you understand this you understand why these leftists are reaching out to the UN, third world/any other non western totalitarian regime on the planet. To paraphrase Princess Leah from Star Wars, help me anti western haters, you’re our only hope.

  3. Big Frank Says:

If the Leftists, Liberals, Marxists, Maoists, Leninists, Stalinists and, Communists are not content with our republic with the rule of law, may I suggest that they divest themselves of this horrid capitalism and migrate to one of those Utopian ‘Workers Paradises’ So that they can live out their Socialist dreams in South America, N. Korea or to the so-called ‘Peoples Republic Of China’. In these heavenly political wonderlands I’m quite sure they will be welcomed with open arms and be given ‘party’ status at once.

  4. And thank God the US is not a democracy!

Even though the liberals and fascists would love to make it one!

    • Gonzo Says:

No, what liberals want is democratic socialism, which is nothing more than a stepping stone to pure socialism, which at its heart, removes all responsibility from a countries citizenry, resulting in anything but a free and democratic nation.

What your little snip demonstrates is that in a democracy, not everyone will get there way, and many people will feel disenfranchised by the democratic system, as they will feel that they do not have representation, when in fact, they do. How you chose to foster relations with your political representation is the quandary of greater importance.

Whining with your buds at the local bar will do little to affect change. Real change is initiated via civic activities which foster definitive action by a strong enough number of people that even a puppet media cannot ignore it. But alas, most people are corralled in apathetic delirium with available moments for civic duty prescribed on schedule via TV commercial breaks – moments in which competing initiatives usually prevail, such as biological, food, fornication, and beverage needs, displacing affect toward political activism.

The masses are fed and entertained; apathetic and undereducated about anything but pointless and self centered glutenous moment after another of instant satisfaction. A state of being that, democratically, most people seem to accept.

Want proof? – Launch a campaign for change, advertise it on your Facebook wall, and watch in futility for mass response. Then, post something mindless like, “I love my dog”, or “Britney is a ho”, and watch 500 ‘Likes’ show up in seconds.

What have you done to deserve democracy and freedom this year?

      • “What have you done to deserve democracy and freedom this year?”

I guess anybody who just sits there and lets it happen deserves what he gets – the tyranny of democracy.

        • Gonzo Says:

I’ll gladly take democracy over all other tried and failed systems, especially theocratic systems. Theocratic systems have the distinction of citizenry being tried by the boogie man for any measure of perceived “wrong doing”, real or imagined.

    • William,

Love your new Fred Sanford avatar: “Don’t touch my junk!” LOL! Very cute.
