Oklahoma House Passes Bill Requiring Politicians to Submit to Drug Testing

It’s about time!  Now, if we could just push this issue through at the Federal level, we might just have something.

After all, if our military has to continually submit themselves to taking drug tests, then I think it’s only fair that the politicians who put them in harm’s way should submit to drug tests, too!

I would start with the current occupant of the White House and work my way down…

Oklahoma politicians may be tested for drugs

(Reuters) – Oklahoma legislators voted to subject themselves and politicians throughout the state to the same drug test they will require of poor people receiving public assistance.

The bill passed the Oklahoma House 82-6 on Monday and will now go to the state Senate.

The bill requires applicants to the state’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program to pass a drug screen to receive benefits. An amendment to the bill brought Oklahoma politicians into the same drug-testing regimen.

Democrats chided their Republican colleagues for singling out the poor for drug testing and tacked on the amendment, which requires anyone seeking local or state public office to certify they have passed a drug test within 15 days of filing their candidacy papers.

“If the courts want to overturn it, have at it,” said Doug Cox, a Republican representative from Grove.

Oh, they will.  Trust me.  After all, judges are not immune to partaking in a little extracurricular activity themselves…

Why not? Out here they even demand that the disabled take drug tests in order to receive their medication and treatment. They will force someone applying as a gardener to take a drug test. I say not only politicians but Doctors. Lawyers, Teachers Police and Firefighters too, aw heck, all of us. After all, that’s what the state is there for, to take care of you, right? Test em all it’s the only way to be sure.

Since they began drug testing gardeners we have seen one president elected that smoked dope and another that did coke. Somehow I don’t think this is working out in a fair and balanced sort of way.

Three years ago i retired from a big city Fire Dept. drug testing was not mandatory, however if a firefighter or superior officer showed behavior out of the ordinary, was involved in a motor vehicle accident, or was injured on the job drug and alcohol testing was ordered. If a person was found dirty, counseling and a rehab program were ordered, and had to be completed. . If the employee was caught a second time they were terminated. Sadly a good number of folks lost their jobs. Some after being fired went straight, and are still clean today while others failed and sunk lower into the despair and hopelessness of addiction. Drug testing is not cheap and proper procedures must be followed. I think the best and most economical method is random testing, a person will never know when their number will be chosen, friends of mine work for a utility and are frequently tested at random. As far as the political class goes their method is usually “do as I say not as I do”.

    • Normally, I delete SPAM. However, I think I’ll let this one stand. After all, if a drug test is good enough for the USA, it’s good enough for our politicians. Furthermore, now I have a drug testing link to attach to any and all emails I send to the folks in D.C.
