Among All Groups, More Dems Think Mild Winter in U.S. Caused By Anthropogenic Global Warming

Sheesh, no wonder they keep electing idiots to office:

Poll: Split on cause of warm winter

By TIM MAK – Politico

While the vast majority of Americans agree that it has been warm winter, there are sharp partisan differences over whether the cause is global warming, a new survey Wednesday shows.

Indeed, 79 percent of Americans believe that the winter, which officially ended with the beginning of spring on Tuesday, was warmer than usual, according to Gallup.

But the consensus ends at the cause of the mild winter. A majority of Republicans – 51 percent – believe the warmth is due merely to normal variations in year-to-year temperatures. Only 19 percent ascribe the warmer than usual winter to global warming.

On the other hand, a plurality of Democrats – 43 percent – believe that this past season’s temperate temperatures were caused by global warming, while 37 percent said that the temperatures were due to normal variations in year-to-year temperature.

Among independents, 51 percent attribute the warmer-than-usual winter to normal variations, while a comparatively higher percentage – 28 percent – points to global warming.

    I’ll bet a pay check most unwashed Americans clinging to their guns, and Bibles believe the crazy weather these past few years is G-d letting mankind know it is as it was right before Noah stepped into the Ark.

    You can not formulate a scientific consensus on what the climate is doing based on 1 year nor on 100 years or 1000 years. You must go back at least 100,000 years.

    Since the end of the last Ice Age, the earth has enjoyed two periods that were warmer than the twentieth century.
    The Ice Age ended about 12,000 to 10,000 years ago when the glaciers covering much of North America, Scandinavia and northern Asia began to retreat to approximately their current positions. As the earth warmed with the waning of the Ice Age, the sea level rose as much as 300 feet;
    By 7,000 years ago and lasting for about four millenniums, the earth was warmer than today, perhaps by 4deg. Fahrenheit, about the average of the various predictions for global warming from a doubling of CO2. Although the climate cooled a bit after 3000 B.C., it stayed relatively warmer than the modern world until sometime after 1000 B.C., when chilly temperatures became more common.
    From around 800 A.D. to 1200 or 1300, the globe warmed again considerably and civilization prospered. This prosperous period collapsed at the end of the thirteenth century with the advent of the “Mini Ice Age”

    But now, the scare is about global warming. To convert from the first scare to the second, all you have to do is substitute “the coldest weather recorded” with “the warmest weather recorded”. Replace the icicles hanging from oranges in California with melting glaciers on Mt Everest, and the shivering armadillos with sweltering polar bears. We were going to freeze but now we are going to fry. What has changed is the perception that global warming makes a better scare than the coming ice age.

    One of the real threats to mankind is the danger of collision with a large asteroid. It has happened in the past with catastrophic effect, and it will probably happen again. But there are no conferences, resolutions, gatherings, protests and newspaper headlines about asteroid impacts. The reason is that you cannot find anyone suitable to blame for them. If you could persuade people that President Bush or the oil companies were responsible for the asteroids, I guarantee there would be a billion-dollar campaign to “raise awareness” about the asteroid danger, with sonorous editorials in all the papers.

    f the global warming scare has little foundation in fact, the ice-age scare is only too solidly founded. For the past two million years, but not before, the northern hemisphere has gone through a regular cycle of major ice ages: 90,000 years with ice: 10,000 years without . The last ice age ended 10,000 years ago. Our time is up. The next ice age is due. It may be that increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are actually warding off the ice age.

    There is so much to understand about global warming. I wish people took it as serious as we did.
