Lawsuit Filed Against Texas School For Punishing Student Who Refused to Recite The Mexican Pledge of Allegiance

28 February, 2013

Because Texas had the audacity to refuse Obama’s Core Curriculum, along with the associated textbooks, they are under a major attack from the Progressive Commies who have flocked to Texas in an attempt to turn the state Blue.

In the near future, expect to see more examples of teachers in Texas bullying students into compliance with Progressive ideals:

Brenda Brinsdon

In one Texas School, Students have the Right to Opt-Out of Reciting the American Pledge of Allegiance . . . but Not the Mexican Pledge; Lawsuit Filed

ThomasMore.org

ANN ARBOR, MI – Just as the 2011 school year began, Brenda Brinsdon, then a 15 year-old sophomore at Achieve Early College High School (AECHS) in McAllen Texas, was thrust into the national spotlight after she refused to stand up, extend her arms straight out with palms down and recite the Mexican Pledge of Allegiance and sing the Mexican National Anthem.  Reyna Santos, the Spanish 3 teacher, required all her students to recite this allegiance to Mexico. Click here to see local news coverage.

When the time came for the students to stand up and recite the Mexican pledge, Brenda Brinsdon refused.   Brenda, born in the United States, is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and an American father.  Brenda is fluent in Spanish and English and is proud of her Mexican heritage, but she is a true blooded American.  So to Brenda, the words of the pledge have a deep meaning. Her conscience and patriotism would not allow her to participate in the assignment.  She believed it was ‘un-American and she was exercising her constitutional right not to be forced to pledge allegiance to Mexico.  The school punished her for her refusal.

As a result, the Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, along with local Texas attorney Jerad Najvar, filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Brenda and her father William Brinsdon claiming that school officials violated Brenda’s  constitutional rights. Click here to read the federal lawsuit.

Ironically, the assignment to recite the Mexican pledge was given during the school’s celebration of Freedom Week, marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks and also on U.S. Constitution Day.  According to the McAllen School District policy for Special Programs, social studies classes during Freedom Week were required to recite the text of the Declaration of Independence.  However, excusals from recitation are granted for students who have a conscientious objection.

The longstanding Supreme Court decision, West Virginia State Bd. of Educ. v. Barnette, (1943), and the school district’s own policy prohibit a school from compelling students to recite the American Pledge of Allegiance.  However, the School District ignored those rules when Brenda Brinsdon refused to recite the Mexican pledge.

Brenda’s refusal was not well received by her teacher, Reyna Santos, or the school principal, Yvette Cavasos.  Both tried to coerce her to recite the Mexican pledge, saying this was just an assignment.  Brenda attempted to discuss reasons for her refusal to pledge allegiance to a country other than the United States with both Santos and Cavasos. When Brenda did not back down, she was punished.

We’ve Got Email: Companies and Communities Pull Together to Help Friends and Families of Slain American Sniper Chris Kyle

20 February, 2013

This email was sent to us by a long time valued reader in Texas, Doc Autrey.

He received this email from a member of the Texas Federation of Republican Women who is a childhood friend of a Navy SEAL’s mother, Cheryll.

Cheryll has a son, Derek, who serves proudly in the SEALs and was a close teammate of Chris Kyle.

It is Cheryll who shares this personal story with us concerning the patriotism and support given to the friends and family of Chris Kyle by several companies, along with the Texas community as a whole.

It is a truly wonderful email.

Ronin and I thank Cheryll and Doc Autrey from the bottom of our hearts for sharing it with us.

P.S. – Congratulations to Doc Autrey and his new wife on their recent marriage.  You sly dog, you!:

Patriotism, Texas and Chris Kyle

by Cherryll

I just wanted to share with you all that out of a horrible tragedy we were blessed by so many people.

Chris was Derek’s teammate through 10 years of training and battle. They both suffer/suffered from PTSD to some extent and took great care of each other because of it. 2006 in Ramadi was horrible for young men that never had any more aggressive physical contact with another human than on a Texas football field. They lost many friends. Chris became the armed services number #1 sniper of all time. Not something he was happy about other than the fact that in doing so he saved a lot of American lives.

Three years ago, his wife Taya asked him to leave the SEAL teams as he had a huge bounty on his head by Al Qaeda. He did and wrote the book The American Sniper. 100% of the proceeds from the book went to two of the SEAL families who had lost their son in Iraq. That was the guy Chris was. He formed a company in Dallas to train military, police and I think firemen as far as protecting themselves in difficult situations. He also formed a foundation to work with military people suffering from PTSD. Chris was a giver not a taker. He along with a friend and neighbor, Chad Littlefield, were murdered trying to help a young man that had served 6 months in Iraq and claiming to have PTSD.

Now I need to tell you about all of the blessings:

City of Chicago’s Al Capone Era Less Violent Than Today’s Massive Gun Control Era

4 February, 2013

Yup.  Back when gangsters reigned supreme and Tommy guns were in the hands of just about everyone, Chicago was actually safer than it is today.

Seems when you take away a civilian’s right to carry a weapon for self defense, civility becomes the first casualty.

Also, since we are talking history, here, turns out that even the Wild West was less violent than Chicago, too!  So, stick that in your peace-pipe and smoke it, anti-gun Libtards!

Chicago murder rate far worse than during Al Capone ‘gangland’ days
Chuck Goudie

February 1, 2013 (CHICAGO) (WLS) — In this I-Team report, Chicago’s rising murder rate in a new context, how the numbers of shooting deaths compare to the city’s most notorious crime era, the one that has tarnished Chicago’s reputation around the world for a century.

The surprising stats show the city is worse off now in the category of murder than at the height of the era that has driven Chicago’s reputation for almost a century, Capone’s “gangland” Chicago.

Let’s compare two months: January 1929, leading up to the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, and last month, January 2013. Forty-two people were killed in Chicago last month, the most in January since 2002, and far worse than the city’s most notorious crime era at the end of the Roaring Twenties. January 1929 there were 26 killings.

Even though the image of Chicago, perpetuated by Hollywood over the years, was that mobsters routinely mowed down people on the streets, the crime stats tell a different story. January 2013’s bloodshed has caught the attention of Chicagoans, politicians, the White House and people around the world.

Analysis Of Mass Shootings Since 1999 Shows Handguns Are Overwhelmingly The Weapon of Choice

31 January, 2013

Fascist like Piers Moron and Diane FienSwine who want to take your guns away would have you believe that scary looking rifles are the primary culprits in mass shootings.  Unfortunately for them, an analysis of over a decade of mass shootings says semiautomatic handguns are the most commonly used weapon of choice .

So, why do these Lefturds want to get rid of your rifles?  Well, it’s quite obvious; they wish to reduce your ability to defend yourself against a tyrannical government.

They’ve already taken away your Right to full auto weapons manufactured after 1986 via the Firearm Owners Protection Act’s Hughes Amendment—which, by the way, did not have enough votes to pass, so, in the middle of the night and under the cover of darkness,  Charles Rangel somehow managed to weazel, err, wrangle his way into presiding over the House that night.  Then, when the Hughes Amendment came up, he refused an actual vote tally on it and declared that it had passed the House.  Then, with the help of the NRA, they convinced Ronald Reagan to just ignore the Hughes Amendment and sign the bill into law.  This is why I  dropped my NRA membership in 1986 and have never re-joined.  The NRA is just too damn Liberal for me!

For video of what a sham the Hughes Amendment was, you should watch the proceedings of how it all went down in the House.  It’s available on YouTube HERE.

But, I digressed.  Anyway, back to the analysis of mass shootings:

If we were to jump on board the Knee-Jerk Express in order to “even save one child,” I’d say that all males between the ages of 17 and 48 should be executed.  It’s the only way to be sure

/Sarcasm:

Analysis of Mass Shootings Since 1999
(U//FOUO) The 29 mass shootings incidents since 1999 […] were analyzed to identify commonalities and trends. These include the following:

  • Males between the ages of 17 and 48 conducted all of the attacks but one.
  • The largest number of mass shootings – 13 of the 29 – occurred at the workplace and were conducted by either a former employee or relative of an employee.
  • All of the active shooters were single attackers, with the exception of two students who conducted the shootings at Columbine High School.
  • In most of the incidents – 20 of the 29 – the active shooters took their own lives or law enforcement was forced to shoot and kill them, thus leaving their true motives uncertain.
  • In only four of the 29 incidents were the shooters active or former members of the U.S. military.
  • Semiautomatic handguns are the weapon of choice for mass shootings.

Well, that’s the gist of the report. As far as these analyses go, it’s a fairly short report and well worth your time to read it by CLICKING HERE for the PDF.

Project Veritas: Journalists and Politicians Refuse to Display Gun Free Signs in Their Yards

15 January, 2013

James O’Keefe strikes again!

The setup:

1)  Make some signs that say, “HOME IS PROUDLY GUN FREE.”

2) Locate some pro-gun control reporters and politicians.

3) Ask them to proudly display the signs on their lawns.

Hilarity ensues:

Florida Veterans Successful in Protest: Obama Flag Removed from Dem Headquarters

14 March, 2012

Hey, if I can’t put up a cross in honor of MY God on public land, the DemonRats sure as hell shouldn’t be allowed to put up a flag in honor of their god!:

Dems entangled in Obama flag flap

President Obama’s face in place of stars on an American flag flying at Lake County Democratic Headquarters in Tavares irked a group of veterans on Tuesday, who found themselves engaged in a verbal confrontation and the threat of police action when they requested the flag be taken down.

The matter was resolved peacefully when Democratic party officials removed the flag.

The Obama flag had been flowing for two months underneath an American flag before it was noticed by the veterans, who argued that it was a desecration of the flag and in violation of three codes passed by Congress about displaying the American flag.

“We were given this as a gift,” said Nancy Hurlbert, chairwoman of the Lake County Democratic Party. “We are proud of our president, we’re proud of the United States, and we felt it was time to display that.”

Leesburg veteran Jim Bradford recalled he did a double take when he saw the Obama flag with red and white stripes for the first time over the weekend.

“When I saw the picture on the flag, I thought this is wrong,” he said. “I really hate seeing the flag not being respected, and to me this was not respectful.”
