Muslim Persecution of Christians in Palestine

It seems when Muslims cannot find Jews, or other Muslims to attack they fall back to the old standby of attacking Christians. Christianity is a very real threat to Islam not just because they declared war on them in the past, kicked them out of Spain or stopped the earlier jihadi cold but because Christians are relentless. Every nation on the planet has at least a small Christian presence and Islam cannot truthfully make a similar claim. The Muslim refusal to allow Christians the ability to worship freely and openly seek converts is proof the Muslims are terrified given the chance most Muslims would convert. While Muslims are told their doctrine was sent from, a God called “Allah” through one angel to one person to repeat the message. Christians are taught The One True God as part of a trinity personally delivered his own guidance. In the battle for one-upmanship, Christianity trumps Islam without even breaking a sweat.

The Muslim idea that power is drawn from force and intimidation is contrary to the Christian beliefs of brotherhood and fairness for all. These two opposites can co-exist peacefully only in countries governed by Judeo Christian values. Islam’s intolerance of other religions is simple fear and cowardice.

I posted this not because I am attempting to praise Christianity over other religions and in the case of Islam – cults but as a way of showing the Christians are still being thrown to the lions and they still spit right in the eye of the lion. They do so with class, no riots, no suicide bomb attacks, late night murders or lobbing groups demanding free speech be stifled to protect those who actions would not stand up to real scrutiny. Christians simply have no reason to defend their beliefs with violence or intimidation. Their silence speaks volumes.

As Islamist extremism grows, Christian existence in Palestinian territory is disappearing at an alarming rate, warns a distinguished scholar and international human rights lawyer.

As Islamist extremism grows, Christian existence in Palestinian territory is disappearing at an alarming rate, warns a distinguished scholar and international human rights lawyer.

During a discussion last week about the preservation of the 2,000-year-old Palestinian Christian community, Dr Justus Weiner, a Scholar in Residence at the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs, shared horrifying stories of Christians being persecuted and tortured by Palestinian authorities.

He noted that the population in Bethlehem during the 1940s was estimated to be about 75 to 80 per cent Christian, but now that number has dropped to about 12 per cent.

Moreover, the overall Christian population of the whole West Bank has declined to about 1.5 to 1.7 per cent of the total population and is “practically at the point of disappearing”, Weiner said during the talk at the public policy think tank Hudson Institute on Tuesday.

“Nobody denies this,” he said of the drastic decline of Palestinian Christian population. “People play with the numbers a little bit, but no one denies this.”

Christians are fleeing the territory mostly due to social instability, lack of economic opportunities, and religious discrimination – but some even face gruesome torture simply because of their faith in Jesus Christ.

Weiner, one of the world’s leading experts on the situation of Palestinian Christians, told of several real-life cases of torture he has examined during his nine years of research on the status of Arab Christians in the West Bank in Gaza.
His first story was about an Armenian Christian jewellery store owner from Jerusalem who was on a business trip to Gaza. The Palestinian police ordered him to turn over half of his gold and money and then subsequently beat him for six hours. After the beating the man still refused to give the police his gold and was beaten for another two hours in the police station. In the end, the Christian man’s watch, rings, half of his gold jewellery and $6,000 were taken from him before he was released.

In another case, a Muslim who converted to Christianity was arrested by the Palestinian authorities on fabricated charges and imprisoned for 21 months – seven of which he spent in solitary confinement underground.

The man recalled in a written testimony how he was beaten with sticks, stripped naked and forced to sit on bottles and on the legs of chairs which were turned upside down.

Weiner is working to secure asylum for this man in Norway where he will join his brother – also a Christian convert whom Weiner has helped.

The most severe case presented by Weiner involved an Arab Christian convert who was confined to a tiny cell and regularly left for days without food. During interrogation, he was often tortured by the PA officers who put out cigarettes on his back.

Weiner, who interviewed this man in his office, said he saw firsthand the cigarette-burn scars on the man’s back.
Moreover, strips of sheet metal were held with tongs in hot fire and touched to the skin of the Christian convert’s buttocks and his Achilles tendon where the heat melted through the back of his feet.

The man had provided Weiner photographs of his injuries when they were still fresh, as well as hospital documents.
“His injuries are the kind you read in medieval books. It is hard to describe,” commented Weiner.

The Christian convert had only begun giving out books on Christianity and speaking to Muslims about his newfound faith when the PA immediately cracked down on him.

During his imprisonment, the convert was promised by the police that he would be freed and given a senior position in the PA with a big office if he reverted back to Islam. He refused, however, and was shot dead by masked men on 21 January 2004

“I dedicated my book to this courageous man who continued to practice the religion of his choice even in the face of constant harassment and death threats,” said Weiner, pointing out that his murderers have not been brought to justice.

Weiner’s talk came just a month after Hamas forcefully took over the Gaza Strip, where it is feared that Christians will suffer even more under the Islamic fundamentalist group as well as the lack of law and order following the military coup.

“It is my hope that if these human rights issues are publicised, that there will be more international pressure on the Fatah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad,” concluded Weiner.

“Religious tolerance is a fundamental human right for all people in every part of the world,” he said.

“This should be understood as the beginning of everything.”

All the Christians should get out of palestine and be allowed to emigrate to the West. This woulld do two good things-first, these new immigrants, as refugees from Islamaniac terror, would be far more anti-Islamaniac than those of us who haven’t lived under the scourge. And second, cesspoolia would be further diminished by the abscence of its best and brightest people, making the ummah that much worse.

  2. Ronin Says:

Many did just that, most Arabs in the US are Christians not muslims.

  3. Leatherneck Says:

Religion of peace said POTUS. Moon god worship said The Greatest of ALL Barbaric Christian Infidels, and ROPMA.

  4. Gramfan Says:

I don’t know why church leaders don’t do more to highlight this genocide of Christians that is occurring all over the ME and other muslim countries.

I suppose if they are anything like the Archbishop of Canterbury that would help explain it. (I think it’s the current one – forget his name).

Seems Cardinal Pell of Australia is one of the few clergy who has gone out of his way to learn about islam and isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. I wish there were more like him.

  5. Steve Says:

I agree, leave that sh*thole, less worry about collateral damage if hajis/Palis/whatever are the only target.
Ronin, please provide some numbers that “most Arabs in the US are Christians”. Thanks.

  6. Steve,

Not that wikipedia is flawless, but they are a good place to start:

“…especially among the Arab populations of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and the United States, are overwhelmingly Christian.”

I’m sure Ronin has more info and will enlighten us when he gets online tonight.

    Cheers

    Steve,

I have seen hard numbers but I do not have them available. Many non-Muslim Arabs immigrated to the USA in large numbers fleeing the eternal jihad. There are accounts written by some of the earlier victims of Muslim atrocities and oppression but I no longer have copies. Somewhere in my travels I’m sure I left them with someone, who needed to understand, this fight has nothing to do with America, its policies or Muslim victim hood. I’m sure a search at a library will turn a few up. Check under non-fiction. Nowadays I mostly buy copies of books by Robert Spencer and hand them out. I rarely keep books after I read them and I find people willing to spend a little time researching tend to agree with my analysis that Islam is a murderous death cult centered around a seventh century pedophile, which it uses as a role model.

I did a quick search and found this brief article. It mentions the Arab migration away from the ummah and its minions.

I’m not responding to your revisionist history as you would not believe me anyway but believe this. Right now, right this second; another Israeli soldier is drawing a bead on another muslim coward hiding behind a women or a child.

PS lower your font, the shouting just makes you look stupid.

  11. Ronin Says:

They always come out when muslims are getting stomped. We get the cowards that fight on line because they are afraid to do a real jihad.

When they are captured, they always turn to the old victim ploy, their daddy raped them and honor killed his sister.

  12. Leatherneck Says:

Lol. We can always hope he grows a set, and blows himself up to allah the moon god.

    ROPMA!

  13. will the islamaphobe Says:

I see Anti Christ is just making $*** up because they won’t trust the actual histories of the place he, she or it mentioned…

  14. Scott Says:

I would just like to mention that the majority of Christians fleeing from the Holy Land do so for Economic and Political reasons, not because of persecution by their Palestinian Muslim brothers. The restrictions placed on the lives of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have created unbearable conditions for all Palestinians. Bernard Sabella, a Palestinian Christian academic, did a survey several years ago of Christians in the area to try and discern the causes of their own Diaspora and he concluded the same. You can read it here: http://www.al-bushra.org/holyland/sabella.htm

It is also worthwhile to note that Justus Reid Weiner is hardly considered a noteworthy academic and has been criticized widely for his twisting of numbers and testimonies in order to fit his pre-formed conclusions. The facts cited above concerning only a 12% Christian population in Bethlehem are completely incorrect. Christians are still the majority in Bethlehem and neighboring Beit Jala and Beit Sahour. Christians also have a strong presense in Jerusalem, Nazareth and Taybeh.

This is not to deny the instances of persecution that have occurred against Christians by Palestinian Muslims. However, they are less frequent than the popular media likes to make us think and distract the public from the fact that Christians play a key role in the Palestinian Independence Movement. Palestinian Christians founded the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), both of which were founding members of the PLO. Christians have also made a huge impact on the Palestinian intellectual community, the best known being the literary critic Edward Said.

Perhaps instead of trying to fulfill an agenda based on bringing about the end times through the establishment of Eretz Israel, we should stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers who are being sacrificed for this goal.

    • Ronin Says:

      Scott,

No doubt, there are many reasons Christians leave the area and more likely than not most of those who do leave could point to several contributing factors although, typically they will have one that put them over the top a last straw if you will. Because the area follows sharia law one could argue their economic problems are also a form of persecution. In the end, an equal argument could be made that both Muslims and Jews persecute the Christians to some degree. Both discussions could be used to prove my original point that the Christians despite persecution handle difficulties with more spirit and class than do others. That does speak well of their moral baseline especially when you consider the example set for them by the other ideologies and religions sharing the area.

      Cheers
