And yet, the Pakis still complain about us using drones to kill al-Qaeda members… They should be thanking us for helping to weed out the riff-raff.

LAHORE: PPP’s Lahore vice president Malik Shahid Imtiaz was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Mughalpura police limits here on Saturday.
The police said Malik Imtiaz was coming from Gulberg in a car being driven by his cousin Malik Amir when two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted them near Singhpura at 1 pm. They fired only one shot at Malik Imtiaz, which hit him in the chest.
Malik Imtiaz was taken to the Shalimar Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
His body was removed to morgue. The SHO said it was a target killing, which was being investigated.
Malik Imtiaz won a PPP ticket for MPA in the last general election from (PP-145) and was elected Nazim twice. His father was also a former PPP MPA. As the news of the killing spread, a large number of PPP leaders and workers, including Aziz-ur-Rehman Chan and Samiullah Khan, reached the morgue.
Talking to media persons, Sami said Malik Imtiaz was a thorough gentleman whose family had a strong affiliation with the PPP. He said it was very sad that a PPP worker had been killed in broad daylight. He asked the Punjab government to note that this was the second incident in a week in which a PPP leader was killed.
Earlier, Malik Tariq Awan, a PPP leader in Sangla Hill, was killed, he said, adding, they would protest against Malik’s killing in case his killers were not arrested immediately.
APP adds: President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed grief over the murder.
In separate messages to the bereaved family, they condemned the murder and directed the provincial authorities to investigate the matter and submit a report. They praised the services of the victim for the party and democracy.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman also condemned the killing. “As a colleague, I am deeply saddened on the gruesome murder of Malik Imtiaz Shahid. It was indeed a cowardly act and the government stands committed to nab the criminals,” she told the media.
She extended the government’s condolences to Shahid’s family and said “we share the grief of his family.”
